After a County wide search for the biggest talent around and a nail biting finale, we found our winner of this year’s Warwickshire Pride’s Got Talent. Decided on by the panel of judges including: MP Chris White, the divine Sassi Afrika, Security Momma Sue and Warwickshire Pride organiser Daniel Browne. Oh and not forgetting the audience votes. We managed to grab a few minutes with winner Cristian Honeychurch to find out where he’s come from and what’s in store for Warwickshire Pride 2014.

First of all Congratulations on winning Warwickshire Pride’s Got Talent. You certainly impressed the crowds taking over 70% of the vote. Did you think you’d win?
I definitely did not think I would win. I was told about the event three days prior by a friend who was asked to enter. There was little preparation and I just thought I would give it a go to see what happened. I had never sung in front of a large group of people, except for the occasional night at karaoke. I am a huge advocate of the LGBT community and wanted to support the growing Warwickshire Pride scene.

Are you a full time singer or is there a day job?
I wish I could say that being a full time singer was my day job, however it is not! I am a Bank Manager of a local bank in Warwick and this is what pays the rent. However, singing has always been a passion of mine and it was amazing to be able to do something outside of my comfort zone and have such a positive response.

Do you often sing at work?
I definitely annoy everyone I work with my humming/singing/belting out the latest chart toppers. Sadly I do not have the facility to jump on a stage with a backing track at work, though that’s probably a good thing.

Do you have any other talents?
Whilst at university, and for a few years after, I was part of 2 national championship winning cheerleading squads. We won competitions every year and during my time in both squads I was lucky enough to represent England at the European level. I also play the piano and play the saxophone, badly.

You beat an ex-contestant from Britain’s Got Talent, do you think you’ll enter the TV show next year?
I actually entered the X-Factor this year, but didn’t get past the first round due to the exceptional talent this year. I may enter again over the next couple of years, depending on how well the crowd find me at Warwickshire Pride.

Is there a special someone in your life or should we form a queue at Warwickshire Pride?
The only special person in my life is my mum. You’ll have to form an orderly line behind her!

Most embarrassing drunk night out?
Too many to mention… However a naked dare on top of a hotel at Disneyland Paris may hold the top spot.

What three things can’t you leave the house without?
iPhone, Beatz headphones and my Kindle. Technology is my Achilles heel.

If you could duet with someone dead or alive who would it be?
Without sounding stereotypical, if I could sing with Lea Michele (Rachel from Glee) my life would be complete.

Have you decided on the set for Warwickshire Pride yet or is this a secret?
I’m still working on the finer points, though I think there may be some John Legend, Jason Mraz, Michael Buble and David Guetta… You’ll have to come and watch to see if it happens though.

Quick Fire Questions:

Night at the gym or night on the sofa with a bottle of wine and a movie?
Wine and a movie wins hands down every time.

Bowl of cereal or full English?
Cereal. Nothing beats Weetabix!

Swim shorts or Speedos?
Shorts. Always shorts. Noone wants to see me in speedos.

Beach Holiday or Camping in Wales?
Beach holiday. Though I’m from the Isle of Wight so any visit home to see friends and family ends up with an informal beach holiday.

You can catch Cristian and other artists performing at Warwickshire Pride on the 28th June 2014 at the Leamington Spa Pump Gardens. It’s a free event with After Party at the Eight Bar. Do visit for more details.
