Newquay gets a surge in visitors for Cornwall Pride

Cornwall Pride helped push passenger numbers to over 2000 people arriving at Newquay station on Saturday.

Newquay Station has had a rainbow makeover to welcome people to Cornwall on the day of the Pride Parade – a celebration of Cornwall and diversity. The day starts with a parade through the streets of Newquay with floats and hundreds of people taking part.

Over the weekend, Newquay station received a surge of passengers who were making their way to this year’s Cornwall Pride. According to GWR, over 2000 passengers arrived at Newquay station which was specially decorated to support the event. The passenger numbers include those arriving on the special GWR shuttle bus between St Austell, Par and Newquay.

Passengers arriving were given rainbow garlands and special edition ticket wallets with details of the extra services being provided for the day.

The event was attended by thousands of LGBT+ people and allies who enjoyed the brilliant sunshine on Newquay’s famous Killacourt – above the beach.
