Pride in London announces partnership with Tesco

Tesco has become Pride in London’s headline partner as part of its mission to champion and support the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT+) community.

The retailer has been a partner of Pride in London for ten years, donating lunches for Parade volunteers on the day and giving out little helps like water and flags to paradegoers, in addition to providing generous financial support for the community. The long-term relationship underlines the ongoing commitment from Tesco to champion diversity and inclusion in the workplace, in their stores and beyond.

Dan O’Gorman, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Pride in London, said, “Over the ten years that they’ve been a valued partner of Pride in London, Tesco has provided us with an amazing level of support – from donating lunches for our volunteers on Parade day, to fundraising for us in their stores. Tesco is a genuine ally of the LGBT+ community, and we’ve seen with our own eyes that they’re committed to welcoming everyone into their stores and providing a safe and inclusive environment for their customers, colleagues and all supporters of Pride.

“Every year at Pride in London we are joined by hundreds of Tesco colleagues, as part of the parade and as volunteers along the route. We are very excited to be strengthening our partnership with Tesco to support our mission to deliver the best, most diverse Pride yet.”

Barry Davies, Chair of Tesco’s LGBT+ colleague network, Out At Tesco, added, “We’re delighted to be marking our tenth year with Pride in London by becoming their headline sponsor. Everyone is welcome at Tesco and this partnership underlines our ongoing commitment to championing diversity and inclusion in our business.

“Over the last three years alone, thanks to fundraising in our stores, proceeds from limited edition Pride products, and community grants from our Bags of Help scheme, we have been able to provide over £150,000 in funding to local LGBT+ charities, community groups and Pride events across the country.

“We also have a number of initiatives in place to support our LGBT+ colleagues so they feel confident to be themselves at work. This includes our Out At Tesco network, which enables our LGBT+ colleagues to connect with one another and provides a forum where they can receive advice and support.”

Pride in London now attracts over a million people to central London each year, having grown in scale and ambition to become one of the world’s largest Pride events. It provides a platform to campaign for the extension of LGBT+ rights and acceptance at home and abroad.

This year’s Parade through the capital will take place on Saturday 6th July.
