Warwickshire Pride to return this month with a theme of Love and Freedom
The annual LGBT+ festival returns to Leamington Spa’s Pump Room Gardens with a jam packed lineup and fun for all the family
Warwickshire Pride is to return to the Pump Room Gardens in Leamington Spa this month. The annual festival, which celebrates lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) life and culture, will take place on Saturday 19th August and organisers are promising the biggest and best festival to date. This year’s Warwickshire Pride has a theme of ‘Love & Freedom’ to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in England and Wales.
On the day visitors can expect around 60 stalls in a rainbow marketplace, fairground rides for children, food from around the world, several bars, a transgender chill out zone, and two stages of live entertainment. Headlining Warwickshire Pride this year are 90’s pop sensation Kavana, X Factor finalist Relley C, Kyle Passmore from BBC1’s Let it Shine, and Asifa Lahore, who is a performer, television presenter, and regarded as the UK’s first Muslim Drag Queen. Local performers such as Shanade, Thomas Pearce and Tilly Pimlott will also take to the main stage, which will be hosted by Leamington’s famous drag queen Sassi Afrika.
Warwickshire Pride’s Chair of Trustees, Daniel Browne, said,
“Warwickshire Pride is returning to the Pump Room Gardens on 19th August with more rainbows, fabulousness and entertainment than ever before. The festival is now in its fifth year and becoming increasingly known as one of the most welcoming and inclusive Pride events in the country. We aim to represent the whole LGBT+ spectrum at the festival, but of course, welcome anyone who wants to come and join in with the celebrations. There is something for everyone to enjoy, regardless of age, gender identity or sexuality. This year we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in this country. While that’s an amazing milestone to celebrate, we will also be highlighting the struggles that LGBT+ people still go through, particularly in relation to hate crime, as there is still some way to go until full social equality is achieved. We look forward to welcoming local people, as well as visitors from around the UK, to Warwickshire Pride and have put in an order for sunshine.”
Warwickshire Pride is a free festival and takes place on Saturday 19th August between 11:00am – 6:00pm at the Pump Room Gardens in Leamington Spa. This year’s festival is kindly sponsored by Mister V Street Food and the Equality & Inclusion Partnership. Funding support has been provided by Leamington Town Council, the Love Leamington Fund, and Tesco. An after party will take place at Episode Hotel in Leamington.
