SINGLE REVIEW | Wing, Little Mix

Genius. I didn’t have much hope for the debut release for the winning X Factor quartet, but if the first single ‘Wings’ is anything to go by Little Mix’s album is going to be fresh, innovative and dare I say, quirky.

The X Factor music factory tends not to stray away from the blindly obvious repertoire for its roster – and not always to great success.

So what’s Wings like? Well it’s everything the 2012 pop music scene needs. There’s a double clap, marching band rhythm, horns – lots of them and more licks than a kid in a candy store. Think a mash up of Destiny Child’s Lose My Breath Nicola Roberts Beat Of My Drum and the drive of Beyonce’s Single Ladies with the time-old message of self respect and hinting at the special relationship between mums and daughters (I feel an Emma Bunton moment coming on).
