LGBTQ+ News Today: Stonewall’s Stark Warning, Celebrity Traitors Backlash and More

    Tuesday 3 November 2026

A major report reveals growing concern about LGBTQ+ equality in Britain, while Celebrity Traitors winners face criticism over their charitable donations. Here are four stories making headlines.

    1. Half of LGBTQ+ people pessimistic about future of equality, Stonewall finds

A major new report from Stonewall has revealed growing concerns about the future of LGBTQ+ rights in Britain.

Surveying almost 3,500 LGBTQ+ adults, the research found that 50% were pessimistic about the direction of equality, rising to 80% among transgender respondents.

Although 48% believed acceptance had improved over the past decade, the report highlighted continuing problems with discrimination, harassment and mental health.

Stonewall chief executive Simon Blake called for urgent action to address inequalities and improve protections across the community.

    2. Celebrity Traitors winners criticised for donating £83,000 to refugee charities

Celebrity Traitors winners Sebastian Croft and Romesh Ranganathan have faced criticism after donating their entire £83,000 prize fund to organisations supporting refugees.

Croft, known for his role in Heartstopper, donated £41,500 to Choose Love, which supports displaced people, including LGBTQ+ refugees. Ranganathan gave his share to the Refugee Council.

The donations attracted criticism from some right-wing commentators, including Julia Hartley-Brewer, while supporters praised the pair for using their winnings to help vulnerable people.

    3. Nurse loses discrimination case against Royal College of Nursing

An employment tribunal has dismissed nurse Sandie Peggie’s discrimination claim against the Royal College of Nursing over its handling of her workplace dispute involving transgender doctor Beth Upton.

Peggie argued that the union had treated her unfairly because of her gender-critical beliefs.

Although the tribunal recognised those beliefs as protected under equality legislation, it found insufficient evidence that they influenced the union’s actions.

All three direct discrimination complaints were dismissed. Peggie’s legal team is considering whether further legal action is possible.

The ruling concerns the union’s conduct and is separate from her wider legal dispute involving NHS Fife.

    4. Actor Danny Pintauro reflects on being outed nearly 30 years ago

Former Who’s the Boss? star Danny Pintauro has reflected on being pressured into publicly discussing his sexuality in 1997.

The actor, now 50, recalled how the National Enquirer intended to publish a story about his sexuality regardless of whether he participated.

Pintauro, then 21, decided to speak for himself rather than allow the tabloid to tell his story without him.

After rediscovering the original interview, he shared his experiences online and received an outpouring of supportive messages from people who remembered the impact of his coming out.

The actor said revisiting the experience helped him appreciate how he handled an intensely personal situation.
