    Down a tiny little street in the heart of Soho is a building that is so under the radar and discreet that you’d never know it was a hotel.

    With a sculpture of “Selene” standing proud on its facade, protecting it from the outside world, The Nadler Hotel is a calm oasis. Once you step inside you are totally immersed in peace and quiet, a world away from what is right outside the front door. Yet The Nadler Hotel is in the heart of everything, and while it does not offer any extra amenities or bells and whistles that most hotels offer (restaurant, spa, bar), this is because everything is right on your doorstep, seconds away.

    At the very west end of Carlisle Street, west of Soho Square, is The Nadler Hotel, on a dead end road, where dozens of bars and restaurants, and Oxford Street, are very close by. While people hustle hurriedly past the hotel on their way to work/play/socialize, as a guest of the hotel, where check-in is seamless, you will appreciate the peace and tranquility past it’s revolving doors. With a whopping 78 rooms, (it doesn’t look that big from the outside), The Nadler Hotel is perfectly suited for those who love to be in the middle of it all.

    Choose from several types of rooms, including the King, Superior, Deluxe, or the Carlisle Suite, or a single, small double – any type of room to suit your needs, whether you are on a business trip, bringing the family into town for a West End show, or if you have planned a party weekend to enjoy the sights and sounds of Soho – The Nadler Hotel is the perfect place to stay. Enjoy their pocket-sprung beds, comfy pillows, and rooms where the temperature is adjustable. And if it’s the gay nightlife of Soho you’ve come to London to enjoy, the bars and restaurants are minutes away. So skip the Gentlemen’s Club on the same street and walk, minutes away, to Old Compton Street where loads of gay bars, restaurants and clubs await you. And when you are ready to end the night, you can walk back to the hotel, and not worry about taking the tube, bus or Uber.

    The rooms are of high quality, with beds that are so comfortable it’s easy to not want to get out of bed too early the next morning. Spacious rooms, including spacious bathrooms with powerful showers, are waiting for you, along with a comfy robe and slippers, an in-room mini kitchen (which includes a mini-microwave, coffee maker, mini-refrigerator, etc.), work desk with power points, ultrafast WiFi, a safe, Gilchrist & Soames toiletries, as well as a big screen television with dozens of channels. But I doubt you will be spending time watching television as The Nadler Hotel offers loads of discounts from local businesses including offers at nearby places to eat and drink  (including a free bottle of champagne from Black Roe Poke Bar & Grill and a free cocktail at Chotto Matte), along with free passes to Marshall Street Leisure Centre. Weather and transportation information is also readily available. The Nadler Hotel does offer a minimal room service, including wine, beer, soft drinks, water and snacks, as well as a mini breakfast menu provided by The Daisy Green Collection. They also provide a phone adaptor in case you are from out of the country and have forgotten yours. What was not provided in my room, and should’ve been, was pen and paper, while the bathtub stopper was a bit hard to figure out.

    And the damage for all this luxury and location? For a weekend in January a small double would be £240.00 per night in a room that sleeps two people. If you need more space, and a room a bit bigger, then a King/Twin goes for £276.00. A similar room at a hotel seconds away would set you back £348.00. If you want to splash the cash and impress your partner, then a deluxe would set you back £357.00.  A room at the same similar hotel seconds away goes for £408 per night. Booking is easy.   • Here’s where you should stay if you’re looking for a gay-friendly hotel in Bangkok

    Bangkok offers a wealth of experiences and as this was my fourth time in the city, I thought that I should spend eight days away from the tourist trail and seeing the sites and instead soak up the other indulgences that the city has to offer.

    Apparently, in such a city as Bangkok, you are spoilt for choice when it comes to where to stay, you can find something that will cater to even the most unusual or exacting tastes, but as a general rule, there are three areas of the city that make for a great base. Whichever you chose it is best to ensure that there is a BST station nearby. A single trip is only 58 pence and trying to navigate the Bangkok traffic via a taxi ride can really ruin your day.

    Three great areas to stay in Bangkok

    Sukhumvit is popular with visitors; it is a mix of bars and restaurants, and more residential areas and contains both some of the richest and poorest districts giving you a broad glimpse of all aspects of the city.

    Silom is the closest Bangkok gets to Wall Street and contains many cultural and historical attractions. It is a quieter district but makes a perfect base from which to visit the hustle and bustle of the city without being surrounded by it when you want to relax.

    But for me it is all about Siam as this is the heart of the city’s social scene, shopping, nightlife, food, and fun and with the tourist trail all ticket off via previous visits, this area was perfect for my needs this time around.

    Gay-friendly hotel in Bangkok

    I chose The Aspira Skyy as my home for the duration and no matter what the nature of your stay or the budget you are working with, this hotel chain, which are found all across the city and beyond, have something that will match your needs. And even the cheapest end of the options will result in the height of luxury.

    My own room I found to be clean, spacious and perfect for an eight-night stay. The room includes all mod-cons, a large television, Wi-fi and mini-bar, hair-dryer, air conditioning, complimentary bottled water, bathrobes, and safety deposit box. But the highlight had to be the walk-in shower! The room does come with a balcony, but I found that it didn’t get used, after all why sit out in the humid air when you can relax in a temperature controlled room?

    Overall it was a deluxe three-star hotel with a service more in keeping with a four-star location. More than adequate for my purposes.

    Breakfast at the hotels was also adequate but uneventful though that doesn’t matter as it gives you the perfect excuse to check out the myriad street food stalls and restaurants that are within easy distance of the hotel. And of course, you are only ten minutes gentle stroll from the BST for when you want to really explore the city.

     

  • REVIEW | Vista Bonita Gran Canaria

    If you’re looking for a gay stay in Gran Canaria then Vista Bonita should be on your priority list.

    Gay-only vacations aren’t for everyone. The thought of staying in a gay hotel or gay apartment might not be to everyone’s taste – it wasn’t mine until I stayed at Vista Bonita near Maspalomas in Gran Canaria – and then my opinion changed. We ended up visiting twice – in one year.

    Vista Bonita is a set of simple but perfectly formed one bedroom apartments set around an outdoor pool on the outskirts of Maspalomas and around a 2-mile walk or 10-minute cab ride to the gay epicentre of Yumbo.

    Gran Canaria, which is located a hundred and fifty miles off the north-west coast of Africa, has long been accepted as one of the most gay-friendly holiday spots in the world, and with all-year round good weather it’s just a four and a half hour flight from the UK, you’re pretty much-guaranteed sunshine.

    English is widely spoken and the locals are incredibly friendly and accepting.

    Vista Bonita offers two styles of apartment, although they are all essentially the same floor plan. You have a standard duplex and the deluxe. They both offer a living room and equipped kitchenette as well as a first-floor bedroom. Each apartment has two toilets – and one which comes with a bath/shower. All have terraces overlooking the swimming pool or the lush gardens towards the back of the complex.

    The deluxe duplex offers the extras including a welcome fruit selection and alcohol. There are other extras as well.

    A word to the wise and an insider tip. Although a pool view might seem nice (in fact it can be at times very interesting – because some guests take full advantage of a clothing optional acceptance) it can be very noisy – especially at night when those who have partied at Yumbo for too long come back and think it’s a great idea to start a pool party at 3 AM. Although this is not permitted by hotel management, it did happen almost every night we stayed on our second visit. So ask for a room in the garden section – which is further away and offers a little more privacy.

    It’s startling that there are gay capital-dwellers who travel to New York City, Boston and Montreal and are yet to discover the nearby gem that perches on the edge of Albany that is Easton Mountain.

    Enjoy the very height of tasty nutritional home-cooked meals – breakfast, lunch and dinner can’t arrive fast enough with the most lavishly catered generous spread that awaits each meal time.

    Experience why this gay inspiring haven is quite simply New York State’s level of supreme perfection for the spoiled for choice gay voyagers.

    The most favourable way to get to Easton Mountain is to arrive in Albany’s train or coach stations and then driven to the land via volunteers at Easton. Albany Airport is served by numerous national airlines, therefore, continuing your journey by air within the USA and afar is convenient.

    Whether you travel from near or far, any strains from long flights, drives or rides will rapidly dissolve when you begin to discover the colourful gems that make Easton Mountain blissfully manicured in this land of many ‘campers’.
