An gay inmate in Colorado has filed a lawsuit against the Federal Bureau of Prisons, alleging that he was beaten and repeatedly raped by another inmate who had openly threatened him. The lawsuit claims that prison guards at a federal facility in Florence, Colorado, knowingly put him in a position of danger. (more…)

The United States on Tuesday slapped financial sanctions on Chechen strongman Ramzan Kadyrov, accusing him overseeing a systematic campaign of deadly repression, the Treasury Department announced. The US also imposed sanctions on the Chechen security official Ayub Kataev, likewise accused of gross violations of human rights and abuses against gay men, as well as three others accused of involvement in the corruption case uncovered..

Donald Trump is a one-man hate group. If the president were an organization instead of an individual, it would not be a big stretch to define him as a “hate group” under the FBI’s simple definition: “an organization whose primary purpose is to promote animosity, hostility, and malice against persons of or with a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, or gender identity which differs from that of the members or the organization.” (more…)
The Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) has lost a legal battle meaning that it cannot protest within 500 feet of cemeteries mortuaries or churches, one hour before a funeral or two hours after it has taken place.
The law which was enacted in 2006 forbids the WBC or any other group to demonstrate during the hours in which a funeral takes place.
The WBC is infamous for its noisy protests outside funerals of openly gay people and the funerals of military personnel.
KOAM TV revealed that the WBC challenged the law, but were unsuccessful in the lower courts, the US Supreme court said it wouldn’t take up the case.
Speaking to Reuters, the church’s lawyer, Margie Phelps, said that they would continue in their endeavours.

During 2015, Kim Davies, 52 stubbornly refused to issues marriage permits to gay couples in her state of Kentucky. It’s now come to light that she is running for re-election – despite her jail time. Five couples sued her and a judge even ordered her to issue the licenses.
She assumed the office in 2015 after filing as a Democrat candidate for county clerk. She narrowly won the vote with 53.2 percent of the vote. She has now moved from being a Democrat to a Republican.
According to Fox News, Mat Staver, the founder of the law firm who represents Davis said, “She loves her job and she loves the people,”
“I’m sure (the election) will probably have more attention because of who she is, but you know she doesn’t have any major concerns about it.”
After her release from jail, Davis modified marriage licenses so that her name would not be included. The state legislature changed the law soon after so that clerks do not have to sign their names on licenses.
