Louis Walsh has slammed Jedward as his most embarrassing career move.

The Irish music manager and ex- X Factor judge Louis Walsh has revealed that the most embarrassing moment of his career is Jedward, the twin singers whom he mentored during the 2009 series of the show  – he then plunged the knife in even further by saying that they were no-longer in touch.

Speaking to Woman’s Own this week the music mogul said the camp twins who appeared in 2009’s series of X FACTOR revealed that they were his most embarrassing career move, despite championing them and praising them highly on the show. They came sixth on the show and have a relatively successful career that’s seen them release 3 albums and even represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Sources have hinted that Louis could be returning to the X Factor for the next series along with Sharon Osbourne and Simon Cowell – although the judging panel has not yet been disclosed.

The move would see the three original judges return to the show, something which TV execs are hoping will save the show’s popularity, which suffered its worst ratings ever last series.

  • Why Have So Many LGBT Icons And Gay Icons Died In 2016

2016 has been a dark year for celebrity deaths especially gay icons and LGBT allies.

    Credit; Anthony-Correia-big stock

This article was written in APRIL 2016

This year there have been a number of celebrity deaths, many of whom have been considered LGBT allies or gay icons.

By this point in 2015, THEGAYUK had reported on five deaths of people who were of special importance to the gay community, including It’s My Party singer Leslie Gore and Simpsons‘ co-creator Sam Simon.

However in 2014, at this point in the year, we had reported on 11 deaths of people, who would be considered notable for the LGBT community.

In 2016 we have reported on 10 deaths, including David Bowie and Prince.

By MAG (Mines Advisory Group) – http://www.flickr.com/photos/mag-photos/4776452299/, CC BY 2.0,

There are a number of reasons for which this could be:

    NEWS REPORTING

Social media and news tracking has made it easier to report and keep track of the deaths of people who aren’t as famous as say Prince, whose death was tweeted about over 2 million times within an hour, but people who have been important to the development of the LGBT community – such as Prady Balan who co-founded the Balans chain of restaurants in London and Miami and Haydn Pope who owned the AXM brand in Manchester and Glasgow.

    BABY BOOMERS

Sadly age is also a factor in the number of deaths we have reported on. David Bowie, Victoria Wood, Prince, Alan Rickman were all between 57 and 69.

These people started to become famous in 1970s and 80s and are now part of a generation of people called the Baby Boomers. Baby Boomers are those people born between 1946 and 1964.

Many of the celebrities who have died in recent years became famous during the 70s and 80s a time where LGBT+ issues became more prominent in society and self expression and sexuality, although still a taboo, became a cause that many celebrities fought for; this was particularly clear during the AIDs crisis during the late 80s and early 90s.

It was also a time where the LGBT+ community itself was looking for visible icons and allies. Artists such as David Bowie and Prince were pioneers of changing or going against societal conventions – a trait that many in the gay community consider vital.

    ICON BENCHMARK

Of course the last point to consider is what makes a celebrity a gay icon or LGBT ally. For this we take a look a number of factors

    a) A person’s actual contribution to the LGBT+ community – were they active in fund raising, political advancement or pushing through non-conforming views on the wider society.

    b) Did their lives impact on the cultural enrichment of the gay community. Icons such as Jackie Collins and Joan Rivers, who both died in 2014,  although not gay themselves left an indelible mark on and helped enrich the cultural fabric of the LGBT community.

    c) Our readers – we look at our Twitter and Facebook timelines to see what impact a person’s death is having on our readership.

  • Stars Pay Tribute To Prince

Celebrities across the globe have paid tribute to the artist Prince, who was confirmed dead at the age of 57.

The tributes for the legendary singer Prince have come flooding in after news of the singer’s death rocketed around the globe.

Within an hour of his passing 1.54 million tweets had been published about the global star.

Police attended a medical emergency at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota on Thursday. An investigation into his death is underway.

Victoria Wood’s devastated brother Chris Foote Wood, 75, yesterday (Wed) paid tribute to his sister following her death at the age of 62.

Mr Foote Wood, from Darlington, Co Durham, said,

“I learned today that my youngest sister Victoria has died after a short illness.

“It is a great shock, particularly as I am the eldest of the four children of Stanley and Helen Wood, and Victoria the youngest, 13 years younger than me.

“But more than that I feel that Victoria‘s death has robbed us of one of the brightest talents of our generation.

“It has been a privilege to have her as a sister, and particularly to have been able to observe at first hand how she developed her career from the earliest beginnings.

Victoria‘s two children, my niece Grace and nephew Henry will be absolutely devastated to lose their mother at such a relatively young age.

“Another reason I admire Victoria is that she was determined from the start to give her two children as normal an upbringing as possible and to shield them from unwanted media attention.

“In this she succeeded superbly, aided in every way by her then husband Geoffrey Durham who has continued his close support for their children after he and Victoria divorced in 2002.”

Dustin Lance Black has admitted that he thought he’d go to hell if he fell in love with another man when he was younger.

Oscar winning writer Dustin Lance Black has spoken out about the fear he felt as a young gay man about falling in love with another man.

He revealed that, growing up in a military Mormon household, he feared he would go to hell, get bashed or killed if he fell in love.

He also opened up about the fear, sadness and suicidal thoughts that he had as a younger man as his church heaped negative messages about homosexuality on him.

    [adinserter block=”1″]

Speaking to Huffington Post he said,

“I was about 15 years old when I moved to the Bay area. At that point, for eight or nine years, all I’d had were negative messages from the church about going to hell. From the military environment, it’d been made clear that I was definitely somebody to be excluded and, being from the South, that I would bring shame to my family if any body found out.”

“So I thought if I fell in love, I would go to hell, bring shame to my family, be bashed or be killed. That removes the possibility of love from someone’s entire life and replaces it with shame. As a young kid, you start to contemplate solutions for making this living thing shorter, I certainly did, and I know I’m not alone.

“If you look to the LGBT organisations, they’ll tell you that LGBT young people are four times more likely to attempt suicide, and nine times more likely if they come from an unaccepting environment.”

“There were just no hopeful messages.”

“I’d heard about this guy creating a world where it was possibly to be gay. All of a sudden, I realised I’d never heard one thing like that in my entire upbringing,” he remembers.

“That wasn’t an idea that had existed in Texas in the 1980s. I’d never heard that, I’d just seen Rock Hudson on a stretcher, with the message that being gay will make you sick like this.”

However Dustin was able to find hope in his situation when he learned more about the historic gay iconic figure, Harvey Milk.

“I was very lucky to hear the story of Harvey Milk, it was life-saving for me. I wanted to share it in case it helped others, but the story of one gay man isn’t going to do it.”

“Until recently, Hollywood wasn’t there to support a production of easily accessible hero journeys for LGBT people. I think it’s incredibly important for young people who, as they come of age and might start hearing negative messages about who they are, that they also have a history of their forefathers and foremothers that they can draw inspiration from.”

HuffPost UK is turning Loud & Proud. Over the next fortnight, we’ll be celebrating how gay culture has influenced and, in turn, been embraced by all fields of entertainment, inspiring cinema-goers, TV audiences, music-lovers and wider society with its wit, creativity and power of expression.
