Christopher says that he probably doesn’t fancy Mark but Ash says, “Oh come on Chris, you’ve told us every night that you do after a couple of drinks” Christopher explains that if he saw him out then he probably wouldn’t look at him, but is attracted to him now because of his personality.

FILM REVIEW | Five Dances
★★★★ | Five Dances
Alan Brown’s latest movie has one of the most accurate titles that pulls no punches and is exactly what it promises i.e five dances.
Held together by the strands of a wisp of a tenuous plot, it is however still a sweet and sensual coming-out-tale thanks to the presence of a charming young dancer who proves he is quite a mean actor too, despite his inexperience.
Four dancers and a choreographer are in a Manhattan studio learning a new piece of contemporary dance to perform at the opening night of a Festival. Amongst their number is naive 18 year old Chip who is fresh off the bus from Kansas having won a scholarship to study with the Joffry Ballet. The others assume that his parents back in the Midwest must be proud of him, but the reality is that his divorced alcoholic mother is about to be evicted so makes daily menacing phone calls to her only son.
Chip is homeless so when Cathy one of the other dancers discovers this, she takes pity on him and takes him home and lets him sleep on his couch. Theo another of the quartet takes another type of interest in the newbie and late one night makes a pass at him. A totally confused (and virginal) Chip runs off but not for long as next night he is back and this time encouraging Theo to go all the way.
That’s essentially it in terms of plot, but this one after all is all about the dancing, and in particular young Chip learning how to really express himself through movement. The choreography by Jonah Bokaer is exhilarating and so beautifully photographed to accentuate every graceful move, and it’s capped by a sensuous soundtrack by singer/songwriter Scott Matthew.
Brown is quite the master at bringing every sinew of sexuality into stories of young love into his movies as he did so wonderfully well in ‘Private Romeo’. Here when Chip and Theo are making love it mirrors the dancing in terms of its intimacy and is sensuous rather than explicit. The whole cast dance like angels and young Ryan Steele as Chip maintains that purity and innocence when in the very sparse script he so cutely conveys his turmoil coming to terms with both his threatening mother and the fact that he now has his first ever boyfriend.
You don’t have to be a contemporary dance fan to love this one, but if you are, it does help.

THEATRE REVIEW | The Anorak, The Hope Theatre, Islington
★★★★ | The Anorak, The Hope Theatre, Islington
The Anorak tells the story of the École Polytechnique Massacre, when Marc Lepine shot 28 people, killing 14 at a Canadian Polytechnic college in 1989.
Told from the point of view of the killer, the play separates its audience into two groups: men and women and much of the 70 minute play is directed solely towards the male audience members. This one man play recounts Lepines’ early life, his relationship with his mother and sister, and his justifications for the killings. In light of recent events, particularly the shooting in Santa Barbara, which similarly targeted female students by a student who was unable to get a girlfriend, this play is immediately unnerving and poignant.
Originally written by Adam Kelly, a Canadian writer, the play has won several awards in Canada. This adaptation sees Felix Brunger take the lead role with Matthew Gould at the helm as director. Brunger is believable if not quite likeable in the lead role, the audience is left short of being on his side during the play. He recounts his version of events and his early life, and there are occasional moments of relief from the heavy subject at hand with throw-away lines such as ‘like who gets rejected from the Canadian Army?’
Overall this adaptation is well acted and handles the heavy subject matter with care; Brunger owns the role of the social outcast completely, keeping the (male) audience on edge as he directs his attention only to them. (I can’t say what it was like as a female audience member being practically ignored for most of the performance). The Anorak is on for only a short time at The Hope Theatre 207 Upper Street in Islington, inside the Hope and Anchor. Tickets available online through offwestend.com

Big Brother’s Helen “diagnosed” with bisexuality
As the house settles down with 3 new housemates, talk turns to sex – well how can it not when Biannca is around.
Whilst giving Helen a lap dance Essex girl Biannca gets her boobs out and rubs them in her face, whilst the other housemates look on in bewildered, apart from Ash who seems to be enjoying himself and Zoe who sings a theme tune. Helen admits that she loves strippers and has paid girls to strip for her in the past.
In the garden, conversation turns to Biannca’s attraction to Winston. Biannca says she was ‘playing up…I’m not really a sex pest…I do want to fu*king fu*k your brains out but I’m not a sex pest!’
The conversation then moves on and Pav asks Kimberly who else she would sleep with in the House. Kimberly picks Biannca and admits that she’s had relationships with women in the past. Helen also admits to being “diagnosed with bisexuality” .
So there you have it – according to Helen Bisexuality can be diagnosed.

It’s all go at the Big Brother house after three newbies were dropped in and Marlon was evicted.
One of the new housemates Zoe Birkett, who you may know from the first ever series of Pop Idol, (yes the one that Will Young won) believes she’s a ‘gay man trapped in a woman’s body.’ She dated Anthony Hutton from Big Brother 6 for six years but since then hasn’t had any other serious relationships.
The 29-year-old from Durham was starring in London’s WestEnd in the hit show Thriller: Live before entering the Big Brother house.
She released just one single after her stint on Pop Idol called Treat Me Like A Lady, which reached number 14, before being dumped by her label.
She came 4th in the competition after Will Young, Gareth Gates, Darius.

Mark and Christopher undercover kissing
Well we’re all in two and fours… (god only knows what that means) but it looks at though this year’s Big Brother could be the first ever season where a gay relationship takes place.
Now depending on your source, Mark and Christopher’s relationship could be the first or second gay relationship to form in the Big Brother house. The first is apparently between Rodrigo Lopes and Charlie Drummond. Our sources are looking into it!
Muffled slurpy kiss noises were heard after Mark and Christopher secreted themselves into the store cupboard for a quick snog (we think) and then again in the bedroom under the covers after the lights had gone out.
During a chat earlier in the evening with Big Brother, Mark from Liverpool, talked about his friendship with Christopher, saying, ‘It’s evolving.’ He also says that they have got a lot closer and that Christopher is an amazing person. He thinks it’s disrespectful to Christopher to call him the new Matthew, Mark says: ‘He’s not the new Matthew, he’s just Christopher.’

Regrets for Big Brother Mark after cheeky snog with Christopher?
Is Mark feeling a little bit of regret after his snog with Christopher?
Awaking with a slight hangover Mark said that he was feeling ‘regretful’, whilst Ash and Chris observed that Mark and Christopher make an “unlikely” pairing.
However in a convo with Big Brother Mark said that he, ‘was a bit merry last night and by merry, I do mean drunk…I hope I haven’t made a show of myself’ He goes on to say that he has ‘no regrets…I don’t regret anything. I came in here to have a full experience and just throw myself in to it so no, I’m not going to regret nothing’.
Meanwhile Christopher speaks to Steven saying, ‘in the outside world we would never have met…I would have thought he’s over the top and would drive me up the wall” He went on to say that he would see him on the outside but admits that he doesn’t think they will get together and do a “you and Kimberly” in the House. They go on to discuss how Mark is quite closed on certain subjects, such as relationships saying that “there are many things with Mark that are off limits’
Finally, Christopher and Mark discuss what happened last night. Mark says that he sometimes forgets that there are cameras in the House and Christopher reassures him that he didn’t say anything wrong.
Later that day, Christopher talks to Big Brother about his relationship with Mark and admits that despite wanting to kill him half the time, there’s something “quite loveable” about him. He goes on to say they are ‘like an old married couple, long before our time’, noting that Mark “calls all the shots” but adds that he ‘likes me more than he’ll admit to anyone in here’
