    Man’s back broken in hate crime hours after Pride In London

    A victim has been left with a broken back, after an attack in central London, which cops are calling a “hate crime”.

    A 49-year-old man has been left with life-changing injuries after being attacked hours after Pride in London on the 8th July He was struck in the back, the impact from which broke his spine.

    He was walking along Greek Street at around 1:30 AM on Sunday morning towards Tottenham Court Road, where he planned to catch a bus home.

    He also had his mobile phone stolen.

    The victim was able to make his way to Stratford Underground Station where he was given medical treatment by officers before being taken to the hospital. He was found to have suffered a broken back and continues to receive treatment.

    Details from the Metropolitan Police suggest that “offensive language heard by the victim shortly before the assault” so it is being treated as a hate crime.

    Detectives have carried out extensive CCTV enquiries to identify the suspect(s).

    They would like to hear anyone who witnessed the assault which happened following Pride in London. The area would have been busy at the time. Officers would also like to speak with anyone who helped him off the tube at Stratford.

    There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.

  • Vandals leave Pride bench with “f**king queers” written in faeces

    Homophobes have left a public bench, which was specially painted in rainbow colours to mark Cornwall Pride, covered in sh*t.

    Organisers of Cornwall Pride have been left gutted after a bench, which had been freshly painted in the rainbow flag, was covered in what is assumed to be human excrement, with the words “f**king queers” written in it.

    The bench was due to be unveiled shortly to celebrate pride season in Cornwall, however, within 13 hours of the paint job completion someone had dumped on the bench and written a homophobic slur in the mess.

    Taking to social media the Cornwall Pride team wrote, “Why LGBTQ+ Pride? Last Night Someone Shit on our unfinished and spelt out “F***ing Queers” in shit. P.S Police have CCTV”

    The bench paint update was to do with a local project called DIY SOS Local a project which helps give Newquay’s Beach Parade a “sprucing up”. Cornwall Pride were gifted two benches on the Beach Parade.

    The bench will require scraping and repainting as the paint had not dried before it was damaged.

    A statement from Cornwall Pride said, “After all that hard work it was heart breaking to work through today knowing what had happened.

    This has been condemned by Cornwall Pride organisers the Newquay community leaders, council the Devon and Cornwall police as an obvious hate crime. It has been given to the Police as and they will be investigating as they have CCTV of the area. “A vile act of a individual or individuals that do not represent the feelings and support Newquay has for the community”

    “Please do not allow this to deter that Newquay is incredibly supportive of the LGBTQ+ community. Cornwall Pride our supporters and the whole LGBTQ+ in Newquay are in shock but are now stanging stronger against the hate, which is why Pride exists”.

    Last month Cornwall Pride became the world’s first touring pride. Stopping off at Wadebridge, Launceston, Bodmin, St Austell, Truro, Falmouth, Heartlands, Hayle, Marazion, Penzance and Newquay, the touring pride allowed thousands of people to take part and witness the pride event. Some of the towns, like Bodmin, had never hosted a pride event before.

    The tour bus took off just after 9:00 AM in Newquay and returned over 12 hours later.

  • Victim left with a fractured skull after “vicious” homophobic assault at London gay bar

    A victim has been left with a fractured skull after an alleged “vicious” attack at a London gay bar.

    An alleged homophobic attack happened at one of London’s most popular gay venues.

    A man was left with a fractured skull after an assault at the Eagle bar in Vauxhall. The alleged attack happened in the early hours of 2nd July 2018, when two men and a woman were asked to leave the premises.

    After the small group was ejected they became violent, according to the Met police. Two males, 42 and 30 and a female, 20-year-old, were taken into custody. They were released under investigation.

    According to a police statement, “It would appear that two men and a woman took umbrage to being asked to move from the smoking area, and were then subsequently ejected from the premises after making homophobic comments to staff at the venue”.

    Investigating officer, Detective Constable Phill Govett, from Lambeth, said, “This was a particularly vicious attack which stemmed from a minor incident and involved the use of homophobic language. Hate crime in any form will not be tolerated by police and we will take all possible action to bring perpetrators of these offences to justice.”

    This weekend, the UK’s capital, plays host to one of the countries biggest pride events, Pride In London. The Met have made policing the event a “priority”.

    Chief Superintendent Helen Millichap, Met spokesperson for the event, said, “As with any large event the Met’s priority is public safety and we are working closely with the organisers in the lead up to Pride to develop our policing plan. We want Pride to be a friendly, safe event for everyone to enjoy and to help us we need the public to take the usual precautions by remaining vigilant and reporting anything of concern to police officers or stewards at the event.”

  • Man charged in connection to Manchester assault

    A man has been charged in connection to an assault which left the victim in a “critical condition” in the heart of Manchester’s gay village.

    A 21-year-old man has been charged with section 18 assault.

    Adil Mohammed Ali (04/04/1997) of no fixed abode was remanded in custody and will appear at Manchester & Salford Magistrates’ Court today, Monday 2 July 2018.

    This charge follows an assault on Bloom Street at around 4.45am on Saturday 30 June 2018.

    A 60-year-old man – who was cross-dressed at the time – had been outside AXM bar when he was assaulted.

    He remains in hospital in a critical condition.

    We have reached out to Manchester Police to ascertain whether the victim identifies as a man or woman, who have been unable to speak to the victim due to the victim’s injuries, however, the victim’s family says he identifies as a man.

    Police are calling for witnesses to a vicious assault in the heart of Manchester’s gay village, which left the victim in a “critical condition”

    A person who was “cross-dressed” has been attacked outside one of Manchester’s most famous gay venues AXM. The attack happened at around 4.45am on Saturday 30 June 2018, police were called to reports of an assault on Bloom Street.

    Manchester Police report, “A 60-year-old man – who was cross-dressed at the time of the assault – had been outside AXM bar when he was approached by a man who punched him to the floor.

    “The victim was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition”.

    We have reached out to Manchester Police to ascertain whether the victim identifies as a man or woman, who have been unable to speak to the victim due to the victim’s injuries, however, the victim’s family says he identifies as a man.

    21-year-old arrested

    A 21-year-old man was arrested at nearby on suspicion of assault. He remains in custody for questioning.

    Enquiries are ongoing and officers are appealing for anyone with information to contact police.

    Detective Inspector Patrick Goodrich, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said, “This was a shocking attack on an innocent man who was enjoying his evening but has now been left in a critical condition in hospital. Our thoughts remain with him and his family as he receives treatment.

    “While we have arrested a man, our investigation is still in its very early stages and we are working hard to establish the exact circumstances that led to this incident although it is not believed to be a hate crime at this stage.

    “We can see from CCTV footage that there was a white woman with blonde hair who was wearing a red top and black trousers in close proximity to the attack and we believe she may hold vital information. I want to stress that she is not in any trouble but I would urge her to get in touch as she may have key details that would assist our enquiries.”

    “I would also appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the assault or anyone with information to get in touch.

  • Gay couple brutally beaten in Ireland

    Police in Ireland are investigating after a man and his husband were brutalised by a group of four men.

    A gay couple were savagely beaten in Ireland as they walked back from a barbecue the Irish Times is reporting. Collie McQuillan (30) and his husband Gui Aquino Teixeira McQuillan (24) were set upon by a group of four men.

    McQuillan alleges that the attack happened after the four men starting shouting abuse at the couple from across the road. The men then attacked his husband and he stepped in to protect him, which is when he sustained multiple injuries.

    McQuillan has released a bloodied photo of himself following the attack and has been appealing for donations via a crowdfunding site to pay for dental work he’ll need following the attack.

    He has fractures in two places, two missing teeth and two that are split. His jaw has been wired.

    He wrote on his gofundme page, “I was savagely attacked by a group of people which cause extensive damages to my face and jaw and teeth which resulted in myself being transferred from Portlaoise Hospital to St James’s Hospital Dublin.”

    Gui posted a note on Facebook saying, “My husband and I were savagely attacked by 4 men carrying hurls and pieces of wood, without a reason. He’s got the most severe injuries. His jaw is all fractured and he lost 4 of his front teeth. So with the physical pain, came the depression.

    “We still can’t believe that this happened, what kinda of people does that? We just don’t understand.”

    The attack took place in Portlaoise in County Laois on the 10th June at 2:30 AM. Portlaoise is just over 50 miles from the country’s capital, Dublin.

    Police are investigating, a spokesperson said, “Gardai in Laois are investigating an alleged assault in the Harpurs Lane part of Portlaoise on Sunday the 10th of June 2018 at approx. 2.30am. One male was taken to St James Street Hospital with serious facial injuries.

    This man is wanted in connection to a homophobic verbal assault in Southend

    Investigators are seeking this man in connection to a homophobic verbal assault on two men on a train in Southend.

    The British Transport Police are looking for a man in connection to an alleged homophobic hate crime against two men aboard a train in Southend, Essex, on the 7th May.

    British Transport Police report that at around 7.40pm, a man approached two men and verbally assaulted them with homophobic comments as he sat next to them. He then continued to mock them by rubbing one of the victim’s thighs and making offensive remarks about gay people.

    The victims then left their seats and got off the train at Chalkwell because they felt unsafe.

    Detective Sergeant Hayley Whyte said, “Everyone has the right to travel without fear or intimidation and nobody should be subjected to offensive or homophobic language. I am keen to speak to anyone who was on the service and saw this incident.”

    Officers would like to speak to the men in these images as they believe they may be able to help them with their enquiries.

    Man sought after homophobic abuse at London train station

    Investigators from British Transport Police are looking for this man in connection to a homophobic hate crime at London’s Bank station.

    On April 13th a man starting to shout homophobic abuse at two men waiting for a Northern Line train at Bank station in central London.

    The two victims moved to a different part of the platform and boarded the next train. However, the man continued to verbally abuse them, according to British Transport Police.

    Officers believe the man shown in this CCTV image may have information which could help them investigate.

    Police make appeal after homophobic assault in Lambeth

    Police are calling on witnesses after three people assault on London bus in Lambeth

    Investigators have released a picture of a person they’d like to talk with in connection to an alleged assault on three passengers on board a London bus.

    The assault happened in March, but police are now looking for information on a suspect, who was asked to stop making homophobic remarks by fellow passengers.

    The assault happened at around 04:15hrs on Sunday, 25 March on board a N87 bus on Wandsworth Road, SW8.

    Members of the public were seated on the top deck of the bus when they overheard the suspect sitting in front of them swearing and making homophobic remarks.

    When asked to refrain from making such remarks, the suspect then proceeded to assault three passengers on the bus.

    The suspect is described as a black man with a shaved head and goatee beard wearing a smart blue suit, black shoes and grey scarf.

    Detective Constable Sarah Bunting of the Met’s Road & Transport Policing Command said, “This man is sought in connection with a homophobic assault on a bus.

    “If you know who this man is, or may be able to assist us in our investigation, please call 101 and quote CAD 1045/25Mar18.

    “The Met will not tolerate any form of hate crime and we strongly urge anyone who has been a victim of this sort of situation to call police and report it.”

    Afghanistan

    Men could face execution but are more likely to receive long prison sentences. No executions are known to have been handed out since the end of the Taliban rule.

    Brunei*

    Gay men in Brunei could be stoned or given 10 years in prison if found guilty of homosexual acts.

    Iran

    In Iran, gay men can be lashed up to 74 times for “immature men” and the death penalty for mature men of sound mind – and where the acts were consenting. Women can be lashed 50 times and can face the death penalty after their fourth conviction.

    Mauritania

    Homosexuality is against the law in Mauritania and could attract the death penalty, however, there have been no public executions since 1987.

     

    Qatar

    In Qatar, gay men may face execution if they are Muslim otherwise men can face fines and a prison sentence which lasts 7 years.

     

    Saudi Arabia

    A second conviction of homosexuality in Saudi Arabia will land a death penalty. For the first offence, men can face fines, castration, flogging, prison and torture.

     

    Sudan

    Homosexuality has been illegal in Sudan since 1899. Death penalty occurs on the third offence for men and four offences for women.

     

    Yemen

    Married men can expect to be stoned to death if caught having same-sex relations. Unmarried men will receive 100 lashes or one-year imprisonment.

     

    Libya

    Gay men could face death in Libya.

     

    Nigeria

    Homosexuality is illegal in some states of Nigeria and could attract the death penalty. These states include: Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Sokoto, Yobe, and Zamfara

     

    Somalia

    Homosexuality is illegal in Somalia and could attract a death penalty. Islamic courts have sentenced men to their deaths using Sharia law as their legal basis.

     

    Syria

    The actual penalty that gay men should face for homosexual acts is a prison for up to 3 years, however, due to the rise in ISIS a highly advertised death awaits those found guilty of engaging in same-sex sexual acts.

     

    Iraq

    Despite homosexuality not being illegal in Iraq, there have been reported executions of gay men in ISIS-controlled areas.

     

    * Brunei is a Sovereign state and not a country.

    There are some countries where although capital punishment might not be constitutionally ratified there are cases where gay people have been killed because of their sexuality.

  • Three men facing “lasting” injuries after acid attack close to gay venue in London

    Three men could be facing”life-changing” injuries after a vicious acid attack outside a popular gay venue in east London.

    Three victims have been left with acid burns to their bodies close to a popular gay venue in Hackney, the Metropolitan police are reporting. The Evening Standard reports that witnesses saw the three men walking away from the venue, Dalston Superstore, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

    The incident occurred at 5:20AM on Sunday morning. The three male victims aged 17, 22 and 27 years old, were taken by the London Ambulance Service to an east London hospital.

    Their injuries are not life-threatening. However, at this early stage, it is still to be determined whether the injuries will be life-changing.

    It is possible that more people were injured during this altercation and that footage of the incident may have been captured on mobile phones.

    “Vicious and unpleasant incident”

    Detective Sergeant Quinn Cutler investigating said, “This is a particularly vicious and unpleasant incident which has left a number of people with potentially lasting injuries.

    “I know that a number of people witnessed this incident and I urge those people to come forward and share their information and/or footage with police.”

    The police are not currently treating this incident as a homophobic attack.
