This information was made public shortly after the Paris attacks in November which left over 100 people dead.

In light of the recent attack on an Orlando gay club, we’re republishing this information.

Officials have given the following specific advice in relation to attacks undertaken with firearms or other weapons.

    Run

    Escape if you can

    Consider the safest options

Is there a safe route? RUN. If not, HIDE

Can you get there without exposing yourself to greater danger?

    Insist others leave with you

    Leave belongings behind

    Hide

    If you can’t RUN, HIDE

If you can see the attacker, they may be able to see you

Find cover from gunfire such as substantial brickwork or heavy reinforced walls

    Be aware of your exits

    Try not to get trapped

    Be quiet, silence your phone

    Lock and barricade yourself in

    Move away from the door

    Tell

Call police: What do the police need to know?

    Location: Where are the suspects?

Direction: Where did you last see the suspects?

Descriptions: Describe the attacker, numbers, features, clothing, weapons

Provide further information: Casualties, type of injury, building information, entrances, exits, hostages

And stop other people entering the building if it is safe to do so

They also warned that when the police do arrive that they may point guns at you and “treat you firmly”. The advice continues:

When police arrive, they may point guns at you, treat you firmly, question you, and be unable to distinguish you from the attacker.

You ought to remain calm, keep your hands in view, avoid sudden movements that may appear a threat, and follow officers’ instructions

Liam Gallagher is facing tough criticism after a homophobic tweet was sent from his Twitter account, in which he used a gay slur to describe the behaviour of Russian football supporters.

Gallagher, 43, criticised Russian hooligans for wearing bum bags and having “batty boy” muscles.

He went on to say that he’d be more worried about having his “arse pinched”.

The tweet was in reference to the hooliganism which has marred the Euro 2016 football championship.

The homophobic slur has been criticised after it was posted just days after the Orlando gay night club massacre, which left 49 people dead.

In the  tweet the former Oasis singer said,

“Russian hooligans skintight shorts bumbags batty boy muscles ha ha I’d be more worried bout getting me arse pinched LG X”

The tweet has been retweeted nearly 9,000 times and has been liked by 9,200 Twitter users.

He later seemingly apologised for his tweet saying,

“If I’ve upset anybody with my tweets I apologise that includes you RKID as you were LG x”

Former Queer As Folk and Corrie star Antony Cotton blasted the singer saying that in light of the Pulse Massacre the tweet was insensitive and “ugly”.

Gaydio DJ Phil Marriot called the singer a “disgrace”.

Contestant Andrew Tate was removed from the Big Brother house after homophobic and racist tweets were found on his twitter timeline.

The tweets were sent several years ago before he entered the BB compound. However producers of show eluded that his removal was due to “new information” – and not necessarily because of the offensive tweets on his social media account.

In one tweet on Tate’s timeline LGBT education in schools was criticised.

“They are teaching gay issues to 7-yr old kids. BY LAW. A pure homosexual cannot reproduce, so they need your children for new partners. OK.”

Racist comments posted on Tate’s timeline suggest that Cheryl Fernadez Versini was a “w*g socket” referring to her marriage to Ashley Cole and another racially offensive tweet read, “I wanted to see black people running id just threaten them with jobs [sic].”

  • Scottish Parliament holds one minute silence for Orlando victims

Scottish Parliament holds one minute silence for Orlando victims

Members of the Scottish Parliament fell silent to remember those who were massacred in the Orlando gay club shooting.

    Minute Silence in Chamber

Scottish ministers held a minute silence yesterday in memory of the Orlando gay nightclub massacre victims before going on to discuss the importance of LGBT+ education in Scottish schools.

Forty nine people were killed by a single shooter in the Pulse nightclub in Orlando over the weekend, in the worst single act of violence against LGBT people this century.

Patrick Harvie, the co-convener of the Scottish Green Party, questioned First Minister Nicola Sturgeon on her plans to tackle homophobia in Scottish schools, after she lent her support to the Time for Inclusive Education (TIE) campaign, which is calling for school staff to be trained in how address LGBTI issues, during this year’s parliamentary election.

    He said,

“There are, sadly, still people – including young people – subjected to the ideology that says certain sexual orientations or gender identities are inherent moral defects.”

“The First Minister has described herself as a huge supporter of the TIE campaign – how long will it be before all schools in Scotland actively promote the equality and dignity of all of their young people, including LGBTI young people?”

Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland’s First Minister, who has committed to the idea of better LGBT+ education, but failed to put in place a timetable to implement strategies said,

“I don’t want to live in a country, yet alone be First Minister of a country, where any young person has to feel that, somehow, because of their sexual orientation or gender identity, they are subject to judgement or made to feel in any way less than any other individual in our society. I have given a commitment to working with the campaign for inclusive education.”

“The Scottish Government will continue to work to ensure that, whether it’s in a school or any other part of our society, the environment for any young people growing up – regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity – is one in which they feel comfortable.”

Sturgeon also encouraged MSPs to attend Scottish prides in 2016 saying that politicians needed to stand “shoulder to shoulder” with the LGBT+ community.

  • Les Miserables Forced To Cut Gay Kiss Scene In Singapore

The popular musical Les Miserables faces action after a gay kiss caused complaints from the theatre goers.

    Embed from Getty Images

The kiss happened during the song Beggars at the Feast, which was actually a short peck on the lips between two male actors. Organisers of the show said the moment had been added for comical value, yet the Media Development Authority (MDA) said it would take action as the scene hadn’t been included during the classification process.

The show has since pulled the “kiss” following complaints. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender relationships are not recognised in Singapore. It is illegal for men to have sex with men which is punishable with up to 2 years imprisonment. Although this isn’t often enforced, legalisation has often been upheld in the courts. The LGBT community can’t adopt children nor do they have any anti-discrimination protections.

  • Stephen Fry and Doctor Christian blast NHS England on PrEP decision

Celebrities and activists have condemned this week’s announcement from NHS England that it will not fund PrEP, a pill that is almost 100% effective in preventing HIV.

    © Jean_Nelson Depositphotos

Stephen Fry led the movement of celebrities rallying for PrEP to be made available to those at risk of HIV.

Stephen, a patron of Terrence Higgins Trust, said:

“I have been a supporter of HIV charities for 35 years and seen remarkable medical and social breakthroughs in treating infection and stigma. But I never imagined I would be alive to see the day when a pill was created that could actually prevent HIV.

“It is remarkable and thrilling to witness so tremendous an achievement, but deeply frustrating in equal measure to discover that our national health service has pointedly refused to provide it to people at significant risk of infection from HIV.

“Surely this must be challenged: if not in the name of humanity then in the name of economy and plain common sense.”

His sentiments were echoed by Dr Christian Jessen, an ambassador for National HIV Testing Week, who said,

“I was shocked and saddened to see NHS England’s refusal to fund PrEP, following months of campaigning by HIV organisations and activists.

“As a doctor, this makes no sense to me. There should be no ‘controversy’ – this is a drug that works, it will halt HIV, and it is cost-effective. Condom use has prevented tens of thousands of HIV infections and remains a cornerstone of HIV prevention, but it’s not enough on its own. PrEP could have been the last piece of the puzzle.”

The UK now has the worst HIV epidemic of any large country in western Europe, having overtaken Spain, France and Portugal. Every day, seven men who have sex with men get HIV.

The HIV sector has been united in its outrage following NHS England’s announcement on Tuesday. In an unprecedented move, the UK’s HIV charities and organisations have now joined forces and announced they will march together at London Pride on 25th June for the first time in Pride history, under the banner of #United4PrEP.

In a letter to The Times, the coalition of over 20 HIV organisations called the decision “a dark day for the NHS.”

The letter was signed by National AIDS Trust, Terrence Higgins Trust, Gay Men Fighting AIDS, British HIV Association and many more.
    They said,

“Our Government seems to have no idea who is responsible for funding the drug that could help end the HIV epidemic, with departments passing the buck and no-one taking charge. The broader implications of that chaos should worry everyone.”

Rather than making PrEP available to high-risk groups, the NHS has agreed to provide PrEP to just 500 gay and bisexual men.

“The tokenistic offer to provide PrEP to 500 gay men over two years is arbitrary and inadequate,” continued the letter in the Times.

“It won’t scratch the surface when 2,500 gay men get HIV each year, let alone other groups such as trans women and black Africans.”

Other celebrities joining the outcry have included Coronation Street actor Charlie Condou, who said:

“Anything that can stop people getting HIV can only be a good thing, and that’s why I was so disappointed that the NHS has refused to fund PrEP. Despite what lots of people think, HIV hasn’t gone away. It’s an incurable health condition affecting thousands of people – and I believe that if there’s a way of stopping it in its tracks, our health service should be grabbing that opportunity, not letting it go to waste.

“I understand it costs money to provide PrEP, but in the long term, it will be cheaper for the NHS to prevent at-risk people from getting HIV than to fund a lifetime of treatment for them.”

Sir Elton John has previously voiced his support for PrEP. Writing in the New York Times in 2014, he said,

“Many view the drug Truvada — often used in pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP — as a miracle drug that will end AIDS. I share in this excitement, and have great hope for PrEP — and praise for leaders who advocate its wider use.”

The Prime Minister David Cameron has publicly spoken out about the benefits of PrEP, saying,

“There’s no doubt there is a rising rate of [HIV] infection. These treatments can help and make a difference.”

Now HIV activists and organisations are calling on him to show leadership and see this game-changing drug provided to those most at risk.

This article was written by Terrence Higgins Trust but was edited to meet THEGAYUK’s style guide.

  • Britain’s Largest LGBT Domestic Violence Charity Closes

Broken Rainbow, Britain’s largest charity for the survivors and victims of Domestic Abuse has ceased trading.

Britain’s largest charity for LGBT survivors and victims of domestic violence, Broken Rainbow is to close after failing to keep financially viable.

The charity had released a number of funding warnings in 2015 and again in 2016 – blaming the Government’s silence in confirming whether the charity would be funded for another year.

The charity did receive funding for 2015 and 2016 but a charity insider blamed “major mismanagement” for the issues.

Communications to its chief executive, Jo Harvey Barringer by THEGAYUK went unanswered in early 2016.

In 2014 the charity relocated to Manchester.

The closure is the second LGBT+ charity shuttered in 2016. In January mental health charity PACE closed.

Buzzfeed were the first to break the news that the charity was to close.

Some of the services offered by Broken Rainbow to victims and survivors of domestic violence will be transferred to Galop.

The National LGBT Domestic Violence Helpline will remain available on 0300 999 5428 or 0800 9995428.
