  • Somalian Teen Allegedly Stoned To Death For Being Gay

An eighteen year old gay man was allegedly stoned to death as a punishment for homosexual acts, a gay Muslim group as said, in a horrifying story that was originally published by Identity Kenya.

According to Somali Gay Community, Mohamed Ali Basshi was buried in a hole up to his chest while rocks were hurled at him by members of Al Qaeda linked group Al Shabaab on Friday, March 15, in Barawe, about 50 miles from the capital, Mogadishu.

The group have published these pictures via its Facebook group from the alleged stoning. (Warning Pictures are graphic.)

The pictures could not be independently verified by identity Kenya for authenticity.

The pictures come with the following statement: ‘Mohamed Ali Baashi ,18 years old gay boy, was buried in a hole up to his chest and then pelted with rocks by fighters from the rebel ALQAEDA Link group…

‘In a scene straight out of the Dark Ages, this Somali young man accused of Sodomy was stoned to death by Islamic thugs while horrified villagers were forced to watch.’

A rebel judge announced that Baashi, along with an accused murderer, had confessed to their crimes but the murderer received a more lenient punishment. According to the judge, “the one that kill some’one [sic] will be shot because homosexuality is more punishable in Islam.”

The African country of Somalia is one of over 76 countries where Homosexuality is illegal and is punishable by up to three years in prison.

  • Is Samsung’s Galaxy S4 a game changer?

Is this the iPhone Killer? Samsung unveiled its brand new smartphone the S4 yesterday in New York City.

The brand new device from Samsung offers 1080p screen – which has the ability to react to the owner’s eyes and features a universal translator and 13 megapixel camera – and voice recognition software.

The expected retail price for the the Samsung Galaxy S4 price is said to be about £480(US$725/AUD$695) SIM-free although the Galaxy SIV price is yet to be confirmed.

    Here’s what the critics thought:
    Luke Johnson, Trusted Reviews:

“Perhaps not the out-and-out game changer some were expecting, the Samsung Galaxy S4 is, on first impressions at least, certainly a new dominant force on the Android smartphone scene.

“Sure to go head-to-head with the likes of the iPhone 5 and HTC One over the coming months, the Samsung Galaxy S4 is set to benefit from a raft of immersive, engaging and performance-enhancing features that will complement the improved hardware to create an all-round impressive device.”

    Matt Warman, Daily Telegraph (UK):

“What the S4 offers is a comprehensive package of features, starting with a remarkable screen offering far more pixels than the human eye can perceive. The addition of Air View, which allows users to interact with the touchscreen without actually making contact, offers more information instantly; waving your hand in front of the screen to browse forward or backwards makes the phone suddenly seem like a natural thing to use in the kitchen while cooking or when your hands are full at your desk.

“It’s not a revolution but it’s certainly an improvement. Hovering a finger above the screen means you can choose articles from each category of the special version of Flipboard, for instance, and never waste time with the ones that don’t interest you.”

    Jordan Crook, TechCrunch:

“Samsung is riding high on the success of the Galaxy S3 and from what I’ve seen, the Galaxy S4 is a worthy successor, with innovative features packed into a familiar housing. It’s a bit of a shame that Samsung announced the phone without giving a price or release date, but at this point, with Samsung the global sales and innovation leader in smartphones, it can do pretty much whatever it wants.”

    Rik Henderson, Pocket-lint (UK):

“Bells and whistles aside, what will sell the Samsung Galaxy S4 more than any other aspect – more even than sheer brand loyalty – is the display. It is as vibrant as ever before seen on a Super AMOLED display, but with full HD (1920 x 1080) crispness to boot. That’s 440ppi, for those that are counting, the same as the Sony Xperia Z.

“From our initial play, that’s what has been burnt on to our retinas, for sure. Is it a major step up from the Samsung Galaxy S3? Probably not for many. But there’s certainly enough that’s new to promote it above being the Samsung Galaxy S3S.”

    David Pierce, The Verge:

“Samsung’s consistently on the bleeding edge of smartphone horsepower, and that continues here: the Galaxy S4 is built to fly. It’ll be sold with either a Samsung Exynos 5 or Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, depending on region, and every model will come with 2GB of RAM, a big 2,600mAh battery, and 16, 32, or 64GB of storage (plus a microSD slot if you want to add more).

“The 5in display is the belle of the ball, of course, and it looks great – we don’t love the PenTile subpixel arrangement, but on such a high-res display it didn’t seem to cause any problems. Viewing angles are great, colours pop on the Super AMOLED display, and the bezels on the device have been slimmed to the point where the screen feels even larger and more immersive.”

    Roger Cheng, CNet:

“Throngs of Android and Samsung fans will flock to the Galaxy S4. The only other smartphone in the industry that can command such good will is, of course, the iPhone. Even if the next iPhone enjoys only a few slight upgrades – which could be the case with a rumored iPhone 5S on the way – demand for the phone will still be sky high.

“That’s kind of how it feels with Samsung and the Galaxy S4. The company isn’t quite at the level where fans will wait in line for the phone, but the Samsung fanboys are starting to grow as vocal – if not more so – than the Apple faithful.

“At this point, the Galaxy S4 is a runaway train, something Samsung couldn’t stop even if it tried. The rest of the industry better watch out”

  • NEWS: Scott Mills And Nick Grimshaw Snog and Bathe (Just Not Together) For Comic Relief

Grimshaw and Mills, sounds like it could be a romance book publisher, however this morning the gay presenters and friends of BBC Radio 1 were snogging and stripping down for bath time, though not with each other.

Grimshaw and Mills, sounds like it could be a romance book publisher, however this morning the gay presenters and friends of BBC Radio 1 were snogging and stripping down for bath time, though not with each other.

Nick Grimshaw’s Breakfast show raised over £250,000 after they embarked on a morning of Red Nose Day challenges, which all started with Sara Cox, Greg James and Nick stripping off to reveal their ‘swimwear’ look, which got the show’s fundraising efforts off to a flying start raising £10,000.

Later on in the programme the team were joined by openly gay Scott Mills, who was made to don a pair of roller skates and told he would be randomly pushed into three masked celebrities. Whichever person he bumped into he would have to kiss – “with full on tongue.”

The three celebrities were revealed as Olympian Louis Smith, Vanessa Feltz and Union J’s Josh. Scott landed on Vanessa and the two enjoyed a lingering kiss, which Mills described as ‘soft and tender’.

It was only after the snogging that the challenges became harder as Grimmy was told by Domino singer Jessie J that he would have to face his worst fear and bathe with over 2 million mealworms, if they raised £120,000, which of course they did.

Grimmy screamed and whined throughout saying: ‘Ooh. It’s horrible! They stink. They absolutely stink. They’re biting my ankles.’

He added: ‘You have to text now. Text the word HELP now to 70005. They are all over me. It’s horrible.’

Nick will now have to dye his famously massive brown hair style to a fabulous shade of pink, after he vowed he’d make the startling change if the breakfast team fundraised £250,000. The listeners of Radio 1 were clearly backing the makeover idea. By the time the show came off air, the team had hit their target.

The team tweeted: ‘we’ve raised a quarter of a million pounds – thank you so much from everyone here at @R1Breakfast and @bbcr1 we love you! #RedNoseBreakfast.’

To make a donation text the word HELP to 70005. Texts cost £5 per message plus standard network rate or donate at comicrelief.com or rednoseday.com.

  • INTERVIEW | Dr Gad Lavy, The Surrogacy Doctor

INTERVIEW | Dr Gad Lavy, The Surrogacy Doctor

Following on with our detailed surrogacy articles we chat with Dr Lavy from the New England Fertility centre who assists LGBT families from the UK to find a Surrogate in the US.

    Doctor Gad Levy

What is you’re involvement in the surrogacy process for couples?

The third party reproduction team at New England fertility institute and I have been assisting LGBT families for over 15 years to have babies. I usually meet with couples initially either in person or via Skype.

How would a gay couple who’ve decided they would like to have a child go about starting the process?

We explain the entire process, and how the couple will find both a surrogate mum and an egg donor. A good start would be to attend one of our group meetings.

How many couples from the UK each year start the surrogacy process?

We have many couples from all over Europe, including the UK, travel to the US every year.

Does it become a more complex process for UK couples who wish to have a Surrogate from the US?

We always work side by side with an attorney versed in reproductive law. This attorney will assure the couple that the baby can be brought home safely and within the legal requirements of the home country of the intended parent dads

What would happen to the couple’s rights if the surrogate decided to keep the baby?

It is not possible for the surrogate to keep the baby. Hundreds of babies are born through surrogacy every year in the US. There has never been a case where the surrogate can become the legal parent.

If two men wished to have a child yet not know which was the biological father are they allowed to mix deposits in a kind of lottery?

Usually the biological dads each create a set of embryos. In many cases, the couple chooses to put an embryo from each dad into the uterus of the surrogate. 40-50 percent of those cases produce twins. It is sometimes necessary to do a DNA test on the child(ren) for legal purposes and birth certificate. An attorney must be consulted in all cases.

At what age does the child need to reach before the couple are allowed to bring him or her back to the UK?

The couple can usually bring their baby home no more than 30 days after the birth.

Is it harder for gay couples to find a surrogate in the US?

No it is not harder for gay couples to find a surrogate in the US. We work very closely with Circle Surrogacy, a gay friendly surrogacy agency located in Boston mass. They match up to 100 gay couples every year with American surrogates.

You cannot pay a woman to have a child for you in the UK whereas you can in the US. Is there an average price or donation for a surrogate mother?

The average compensation to a US surrogate is 20,000 dollars.

Does this increase if you require an egg donor and a surrogate mother?

The average cost to do the medical procedure using an egg donor and surrogate is about 40,000 dollars.

Once the child is delivered and the new fathers are back home in the UK, is there a support system to help answer the inevitable questions on how to raise the child?

Yes, both New England fertility and circle surrogacy have a network of gay families that can be of assistance with any questions regarding raising of children in a gay family home.

Do you ever keep in touch with the new families you’ve helped to create?

Yes of course we keep in touch with our families!

Where can people go to read more information about what you do and your services?

We always refer perspective parents to our website for more information: www.nefertility.com

Dr Lavy will next be in London on the 15th March 2013 where a group meeting will take place. To book your free place at the meeting click here.
