  • If You’re A White Gay Male Student, Don’t Act Like A Black Woman – It’s Policy

The UK National Union of Students has passed a policy which means that white gay men must stop appropriating black female culture.

It is being reported that delegates at the Women’s Conference today passed a motion makes it against policy to snap, click or sashay away, or generally act in any way that can be attributed to black women.

Submitted by the NUS LGBT Committee the motion reads:

503: ‘Dear White Gay Men: Stop Approprirating [sic] Black Women’.

The appropriation of Black women by white gay men is prevalent within the LGBT scene and community.

    1. This may be manifested in the emulation of the mannerisms, language (particularly AAVE- African American Vernacular English) and phrases that can be attributed to Black women. White gay men may often assert that they are “strong black women” or have an “inner black woman”.
    1. White gay men are the dominant demographic within the LGBT community, and they benefit from both white privilege and male privilege.
    1. The appropriation of Black women by white gay men has been written about extensively. This quote is taken from Sierra Mannie’s TIME piece entitled: “Dear white gays, stop stealing Black Female culture”:

“You are not a black woman, and you do not get to claim either blackness or womanhood. There is a clear line between appreciation and appropriation. I need some of you to cut it the hell out. Maybe, for some of you, it’s a presumed mutual appreciation for Beyoncé and weaves that has you thinking that I’m going to be amused by you approaching me in your best “Shanequa from around the way” voice. I don’t know. What I do know is that I don’t care how well you can quote Madea, who told you that your booty was getting bigger than hers, how cute you think it is to call yourself a strong black woman, who taught you to twerk, how funny you think it is to call yourself Quita or Keisha or for which black male you’ve been bottoming — you are not a black woman, and you do not get to claim either blackness or womanhood. It is not yours. It is not for you.”

The conference, believes, that “This type of appropriation is unacceptable and must be addressed.

“Low numbers of Black LGBT women delegates attend NUS LGBT conference. This can be attributed to many factors, one of which may be the prevalent appropriation by white gay men, which may mean that delegates do not feel comfortable or safe attending conference.”

In a second motion they passed the banning of cross-dressing or drag due the offence it could cause trans women.

Speaking to GayStarNews about the policies a spokeswoman said, “We’re a democratic society, and if members voted for it, these are our policies”.

  • £2 Million Awards Announced From Homophobic Bullying Fund

Funds awarded to projects to train school staff and provide support for pupils affected by homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying.

Stonewall awarded nearly half million pounds of the £2million total.

Minister for Women and Equalities Jo Swinson, said, “It’s good news that schools are making progress on homophobic bullying

Today eight organisations will be told they are to get a share of £2 million to help prevent and eradicate homophobic, biphobic and transphobic (HBT) bullying. The funding was announced by Jo Swinson, Minister for Women and Equalities, and Secretary of State for Education, Nicky Morgan, in October 2014.

Homophobic bullying in schools is decreasing: 55 percent of lesbian, gay and bisexual young people surveyed for Stonewall’s 2012 School Report said they had experienced homophobic bullying, down from 65 percent in 2009.

However further action is still needed. Metro’s Youth Chances Survey 2014 found that more than half of gay young people had experienced either discrimination or harassment. In a report from Stonewall, last year 86 percent of secondary school teachers and 45 percent of primary school teachers said pupils at their school had experienced homophobic bullying. Most (89 per cent for secondary schools and 70 per cent for primary) had heard homophobic language used. Teachers say they lack the knowledge and confidence to tackle HBT bullying effectively. These projects will help to build that confidence by providing training and resources for school staff.

Minister for Women and Equalities, Jo Swinson, said, “It’s good news that schools are making progress on homophobic bullying, but it must be eradicated entirely. The trauma of being bullied at school can stay with you for life, and it is absolutely unacceptable that those who may be gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender are being targeted. Teachers need specialist support and training to help them stamp out homophobic bullying, which is why we have funded these excellent projects which are designed to tackle this issue head on.”

    The organisations awarded funding are:

Anne Frank Trust (£104,894) – to run workshops and educate young people about prejudice and the impact of the Holocaust on lesbian, gay and bisexual people.

Barnardo’s (£263,218) – to provide face-to-face support for victims of HBT bullying and training for staff with a focus on cultural issues in schools in Leeds and Wakefield.

Diversity Role Models with Brook (£277,722) – to develop and deliver training on tackling HBT bullying to 10,000 teachers and staff in 400 schools.

EACH (£189,304) – to deliver a training and resource programme in schools across Avon and Somerset.

Educate and Celebrate (£214,048) – to train staff in 60 schools, giving them confidence and strategies to address HBT language and bullying and promote inclusiveness throughout the school environment and the curriculum.

National Children’s Bureau (£128,754)– to train 1,500 teachers on tackling homophobia, biphobia and transphobia through PSHE.

Show Racism the Red Card (£119,557)– to hold workshops with 2,000 young people at football clubs around England, train 200 teachers and run a film competition for young people on tackling HBT bullying.

Stonewall (£465,594) – to extend and share its ‘train the trainer’ course with 60 partner organisations, enabling them to run the programme with schools in their local communities and giving them the skills to tackle HBT bullying.

Marcel Varney, Assistant Director for Barnardo’s, said, “At Barnardo’s, we hear about HBT bullying from the young people we work with across the organisation. We know that the bullying of a young person because of their sexuality can be incredibly damaging and can impact dramatically on a young person’s ability to succeed at school.

“This commitment from the government will enable us to reach hundreds of young people to alert them to the impact of HBT bullying. It‘s a big step towards stamping out HBT bullying. We aim to improve the visibility of LGBT lives in the school environment and ensure that young people are supported regardless of culture or religion.”

  • Kerry Washington Stuns With Gay Ally Acceptance Speech

The GLAAD Media Awards which “recognise and honour media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives’ were handed out in Hollywood last night.

Roland Emmerich director of Stonewall received the Stephen F. Kolzak Award from Channing Tatum, highlighting those working to eliminate homophobia within the entertainment industry.

It was, however, actress Kerry Washington who had accepted the Vanguard Award from presenter Ellen DeGeneres, a prize handed to a significant ally of the LGBT community who brought the star-studded audience to their feet with her passionate plea for same-sex rights. “We can’t say that we believe in each other’s fundamental humanity and then turn a blind eye to the reality of each others’ existence and the truth of each other’s hearts. We must be allies. And we must be allies in this business because to be represented is to be humanised. And as long as anyone, anywhere is being made to feel less human, our very definition of humanity is at stake and we are all vulnerable.”

  • Gay Man Left “Shaken” After Being Removed From Pub In Manchester

A gay man has allegedly been escorted from a pub in Manchester after kissing another man on the lips.

    • Friends say man was left “Shaken”.
    • Man was reportedly removed from the pub after kissing another man on the lips.
    • Pub claims man was drunk and removed as normal.
    • Twitter users respond suggesting “Kiss In” retaliation.

A man was allegedly removed from Mulligans in Manchester after kissing another man on the lips at the bar, reports have serviced via the Twitter social network.

    https://twitter.com/mulligans_MCR/status/578220756137603072?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.archive.thegayuk.com%2F_snippet%2Fblog%2F4009928388%2F9531798%2FzjOiyEqv1Ec20XyFNhtc8zZ0574.html

Actor John Last tweeted, “My friend was just escorted out of ‪@mulligans_MCR for kissing a man on the lips. Disgusting homophobia.

“…He was escorted from the bar after kissing a man.”

Speaking with TheGayUK, Last said, that his friend was left “shaken” after the incident that happened on the evening of 17th March.

The man was removed by Security.

Hannah Martin a campaigner for Greenpeace reported the incident on Twitter today, claiming the unnamed man was “escorted out” of the pub, before adding, “This is 2015 not 1915”

The pub, which is based in Deansgate, Manchester, a short walk away from the centre of Manchester’s gay village, responded to the allegations by tweeting Mr Last saying:

“Your friend (went) outside for a cig, drank too much, advised, as is norm, no re entry. The ONLY reason. ALL customers welcome.

“No interest WHATSOEVER in any customers personal preference, nor should we have, we sell entertainment

    “No further comment from Mulligans.

According to a spokesperson for the pub, the man asked to retrieve his jacket and was escorted through the pub by security, reported as normal procedure.

An email was sent to THEGAYUK for clarification from Padraig Brady, “The customer in question went outside to have a cigarette, whilst outside he was observed to be unsteady on his feet. He was spoken to and it was obvious that he had consumed too much alcohol (no crime) and was advised that he would not be re admitted. We were asked for a jacket to be retrieved, as is the NORM, a member of security, escorted went in and retrieved the jacket and the customer left. On a day like yesterday, there are numerous occasions whereby, a customer, of WHATEVER, personal preference will be deemed to have consumed too much alcohol and therefore not be re admitted to the premises. Are you suggesting that 1 customer among 20 outside smoking was somehow, in amongst a group of 250 customers, was somehow, through, CLOSED DOORS, not allowed to re enter the premises because they have a particular preference???

We are a business that sells entertainment to customers of whatever preference.”

  • Dad Tells Son His Coming Out Is “Worse Than Death”

We’ve heard quite a few successful stories when it comes to coming out in recent years, but this painful message exchange from a father to his 15-year-old son shows the struggles some people still face when coming out to family and friends.

Shocking Facebook messenger messages from a father to his gay son have emerged on social media after he said that his coming out “was worse than death”.

Tyler from Vancouver in Canada posted the homophobic and abusive messages he received from his father on his Tumblr page. The messages were a result of Tyler coming out on Facebook post.

“We took care of you since you were a baby. We loved you, took care of you when you’re sick. Lost many days and nights in all your fifteen years. Now [sic] this is what we get in return, shame and embarrassment…Take out your post from the social media. You embarrass me… I’m going to puke.

“if only you didn’t reject God and His teachings in your life you could have been strong enough to stay from evil and scums that surrounds you.

    “stay away

“Take out your post from the social media. You embarrass me from all the people I knew. I’m going to puke. Whatever you do it reflects on me. People will ridicule me,insul;t me and I might turn out to be a criminal. I have enough of all this bullsh**

“You are trying to ruin me. This is worst [sic] that death

    “You f****K,!!!”

However Tyler is hoping for a positive outcome soon, speaking to HuffPost he said,”I’m upset with what my dad said, but I don’t hate him,

“I’m hoping there’s still the possibility that he could change, even it takes while. Maybe he could accept me, because that’s all I want… I just want him to be there for me.”

  • Is Penis Enlargement The New Nose Job?

Is penis enlargement the new nose job?

    Sponsored by

There’s been a lot of talk about Penis size recently and with the revelation that the average size is smaller than you might think, men are still clamouring for that extra inch.

WORRIED: Many men are concerned with the size of their manhood. Our survey found over a third were worried about length or girth.
According to a new survey the average erect penis is 5.16 inches, not the six to seven inches that was usually suspected average. A collective sigh of relief was heard from men all over the world, but that revelation hasn’t deterred men from all over the country making enquiries about penis enlargement.

In a survey, under taken by TheGayUK, it seems as though us Brits are still troubled by willy worry as we found that over a third of men were unhappy with their penis in someway or another. The poll also found that thirty-four percent were concerned about their length and 29% were worried about girth issues, while one in ten of us has considered picking up the phone and calling a surgeon.

WHAT’S DOWN THERE: Despite the average length revealed as 5.16inches, some men have taken to surgery to gain up to an extra inch.

One clinic, the Moorgate Aesthetics clinic on London’s medical mecca Harley Street, has found that enquiries for enlargement surgeries are on the up and are more sought after now than the common nose job, but just what does the nob job actually entail? How much more can you realistically expect to grow from such procedures?

According to Moorgate Aesthetics the average lengthening is around one inch, this is achieved by the cutting of the suspensory ligament. A relatively straightforward surgery and girth can be improved substantially by transferring fat from other areas on your body to your penis. However because fat is a natural substance, it may need a top in the future. However, there is a little downside to the surgery and that is no sex for at least 6 weeks after the procedure, a small sacrifice though for a large improvement!

HAPPY PETE: Many men who have undertaken the surgery are happy with the result – and with a downtime of just 6 weeks, men can gain an extra inch in length – or even more with their girth.

So just why are we so concerned about the length of our penis? Some suspect it could be the influx of well endowed porn stars or the increase of “monster c**k” porn available on streaming services, making us jealous. A spokesperson from Moorgate Aesthetics said, “One of the reasons for their belief that their penis is too small stems from derogatory comments made by sexual partners – comments that are often simply throw-away ones, but that stick in the memory for years to come. For others, it’s a realisation that their penis didn’t grow as it should have done in their formative years.

Many others feel that the size of their penis has prevented them from starting sexual relationships, and now yearn for the chance to develop a lasting and fulfilling sexual relationship with a partner.”

If you would like to talk with someone regarding a possible enlargement or for more information then contact Moorgate Aesthetics confidentially on 01302 246 130 or visit: www.moorgateaesthetics.com

  • Peter Tatchell To Lead Demonstration Outside Flagship Dolce And Gabbana Store

Gay and human rights activist Peter Tatchell will head up a demonstration outside the Dolce And Gabbana flagship store in London on 18th March between 1-2PM

The demonstration comes hot on the heals after the two openly gay fashion designers insulted same-sex parents and their children. The pair have also strongly opposed same-sex marriage.

Speaking to the Italian magazine Panorama, alongside his business partner, Stefano Gabbana, Domenico Dolce said children should be born to a mother and a father:
“The only family is a traditional one. I’m not convinced by those I call the chemical children, synthetic babies…They are wombs for hire, semen chosen from a catalogue … psychiatrists are not ready to confront the effects of this experimentation.”
Stefano Gabbana added: “The family is not a fad.” In 2006, he told the Daily Mail: “I am opposed to the idea of a child growing up with two gay parents.”

LGBT rights and human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell, Director of the Peter Tatchell Foundation and co-organiser of Thursday’s protest, said:
“It is hypocritical for Stefano Gabbana to oppose gay parents, given that in 2006 he expressed a desire to have a child via artificial insemination and surrogacy. He’s guilty of double standards. Gabbana wanted for himself what he now condemns other gay men for wanting.
“These comments are not only an attack on same-sex parents but on all parents who’ve had children with the aid of fertility treatment, including thousands of heterosexual couples.
“Dolce and Gabbana are echoing ill-informed, outdated and homophobic prejudices about gay parents. Research spanning 40 years shows that children bought up by gay mums and dads are just as happy and well-adjusted as those from traditional heterosexual families. The key to a child’s welfare is the love of their parents, not the parent’s sexual orientation.
“They are playing into the hands of the Vatican and far right political parties that oppose gay families, said Mr Tatchell.

The boycott trend #BoycottDolceAndGabbana trended all weekend forcing Gabbana to put out a statement yesterday saying, “It was never our intention to judge other people’s choices. We do believe in freedom and love.”

Co-organiser of the protest, Edwin Sesange, director of the LGBT Out and Proud Diamond Group, added,
“Please join us in sending a clear message to Dolce and Gabbana that same-sex families are loving, happy families. This issue is not about same-sex families alone but also about the many straight families who have benefited from fertility treatment. Dolce and Gabbana’s statements add to the stigma, shame, prejudice, rejection and intolerance often suffered by same-sex parents and their children. They should withdraw their statements and apologise.”

    Mr Tatchell concluded,
“Dolce and Gabbana are entitled to their views but we are entitled to protest against them. We urge everyone – gay and straight – to boycott their clothes.
“It’s intolerable for these designers to make millions out of the gay community and then turn around and insult our families. They’ve stabbed us in the back.
“Dolce and Gabbana have been exploiting the gay market for decades. Having made their millions, they seem happy to trash loving, responsible same-sex parents and their children.
“Professor Susan Golombok of the Centre for Family Research at Cambridge University is the world expert on same-sex families. She’s been studying them since 1976. Her latest research is in her new book, Modern Families, published last week. Surveying studies worldwide spanning four decades, she found that children with same-sex parents flourish, despite the stigma they sometimes face,” said Mr Tatchell.

  • RIP: Gay Film Maker Richard Glatzer Dies

Filmmaker Richard Glatzer, the co-writer and co-director of Still Alice, died Tuesday in Los Angeles after a battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Glatzer and husband Wash Westmoreland were a writing and directing team who were responsible for a string of very successful eclectic indie movies.

Their first collaboration in 2001 was The Fluffer a comedy about a young man employed for a ‘vital role’ in the adult entertainment industry who finds himself falling for a gay-for-pay porn star whose hedonistic lifestyle may lead them both to destruction. In 2006 the pair won a Grand Jury Prize at Sundance for Quinceañera with a plot that focused on a multigenerational Mexican-American family preparing for their daughter’s quinceañera against the backdrop of a gentrifying neighbourhood in LA. Then Glatzer and Westmoreland executive-produced a heart-breaking movie in 2008 called Pedro about Pedro Zamora the AIDS activist who was cast on MTV’s The Real World and died aged 22,

Their last film Still Alice is a movie about a fifty-year-old linguistics professor who develops early onset Alzheimer’s disease for which Julianne Moore won a Best Actress Academy Award. Some critics have suggested a connection between Glatzer’s own battle with ALS and the raw, honest depiction of illness in the film.

British-born Westmoreland and Glatzer’s partner for 20 years issued the following statement:

‘I am devastated. Rich was my soul mate, my collaborator, my best friend and my life. Seeing him battle ALS for four years with such grace and courage inspired me and all who knew him.

In this dark time, I take some consolation in the fact that he got to see Still Alice go out into the world. He put his heart and soul into that film, and the fact that it touched so many people was a constant joy to him.

Thank you to everyone for this huge outpouring of love. Richard was a unique guy — opinionated, funny, caring, gregarious, generous, and so so smart. A true artist and a brilliant man. I treasure every day of the short twenty years we had together.

I cannot believe he has gone. But in my heart and the hearts of those who loved him he will always be alive.’

    Richard Glatzer (January 28, 1952 – March 10, 2015)
