The LGBT Twitter Powerlist – The Top 25 Most Popular LGBTs On Twitter

Between them, the top 25 gay, lesbian, bisexual or trans celebrities we could find on Twitter have access to the eyes of up to 132,000,000 people.

They range from a news anchor to YouTube stars, singers to actors. The average age of these stars is 46 years old, YouTuber Troye Sivan being the youngest at 20 and George Takei  being the oldest at 78. Some have made their celebrity status through reality TV, like Adam Lambert (American Idol) and some have played the long fame game, like singer Ricky Martin and actor Neil Patrick Harris.

To make it on to this list celebrities needed to have at least one million followers. Trans stars are vastly under represented in the media and therefore may contribute to the fact that only one trans person had enough followers to qualify.

The Independent Newspaper has failed to acknowledge any gay or bisexual men in its round up list of people who made 2015 a landmark year for LGBT rights.

The Independent, home to the annual Rainbow List has failed to acknowledge any gay or bisexual men in its round up of the people who made 2015 a landmark year for LGBT rights.

The list included Caitlyn Jenner, who many in the LGBT community have blasted as not being a good representative after claiming “If You Look Like a Man in a Dress, It Makes People Uncomfortable”

The list, created by reporter Caroline Mortimer, hails, reality star Caitlyn Jenner, actresses Ruby Rose and Ellen Page, artist iO Tillett Wright and model Cara Delevigne as people who made “massive strides for equality and tolerance for LGBT people across the world.”

Cara Delevigne is a former model who came out as bisexual in an interview with Vogue in July. She is in a relationship with singer St. Vincent and has now quit the modelling industry.

iO Tillett Wright is an artist who photographs anyone who doesn’t indentify as “100% straight”.

Earlier this year Johnny Depp’s daughter Lily Rose came out as not 100% straight.

The list failed to mention the extraordinary efforts made by some gay and bisexual men in 2015 for LGBT rights across the globe.

The only man mentioned on the list of just six people is Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, who along with other judges who legalised same-sex marriage in the US.

  • Caitlyn Jenner Is Onboard With “Transphobic” Halloween Costume

It looks as though Caitlyn Jenner is totally okay with the Halloween costume which many on social media had called transphobic.

In an interview with Today’s Matt Lauer he asked the 65-year-old former Olympian,

“When you hear that there are companies out there that want to do Caitlyn Jenner costumes for Halloween from the Vanity Fair cover, are you in on the joke or do you think it’s offensive?

    Jenner replied:

“I’m in on the joke. I don’t think it’s offensive at all.”

“I know the community does and they’ve gotten a lot of criticism for doing it. I think it’s great.”

    She went on to say:

“They could have a better looking outfit for him [the model], you know? I mean, that was a serious bustier on the cover of Vanity Fair, you know?”

A petition which called the costume transphobic has attracted over 16,000 signatures to get the costume removed from retailers.

  • Petition To Halt The Sale Of Caitlyn Jenner Costume Reaches 1000

A petition to stop the sale of a Caitlyn Jenner Halloween costume has reached over 2000 signatures.

A petition calling for the sale, production and marketing of a “transphobic” Caitlyn Jenner Halloween costume to halt has garnered over 1,800 signatures.

The petitioner demands that Spirit Halloween, the makers of the costume revoke their ideas and production of a costume which mimics the famous Vanity Fair cover, complete with sash that reads, I Am Caitlyn, the name of Jenner’s new reality show.

The costume is currently on pre-order for $63.74 (£40.75)

The statement from Addison Vincent, who started the petition says,

“Yes, as your PR and marketing head Trisha Lombardo stated in an interview, Caitlyn Jenner is a hero and celebrated in modern day culture, but that doesn’t excuse the exploitation and transphobia you’ll be committing this Halloween.

“To make a costume out of a marginalized identity reduces that person and community to a stereotype for privileged people to abuse. In this case, if you follow through with production of a Caitlyn Jenner costume, cisgender people will purchase it to make fun of her and our community.

“At a time when trans women and GNC folx, especially black trans women, are being murdered at such a high rate, and homelessness, unemployment, and inaccessbility to healthcare run rampant in our community, making fun of one or all of us is utterly insensitive and deplorable.”
