  • James Arthur Dumped By Record Label

    So long, farewell.

It’s got to be said we’re not particularly saddened by the news that James Arthur has been dropped by label Syco.
Last year Arthur’s career took a down turn after a homophobic rap was released.
He failed to impress X Factor audiences with his apology, after releasing a ‘diss rap’ to an unknown troll on Twitter – which used anti-gay language.
According to The Sun On Sunday, the Impossible singer’s last Mix Tape was the last straw for the SonyBMG owned label. A source close to the label said:

‘He’s blown it now. James was given a lot of special treatment that no other artist signed to a record label like Syco would get.

‘It’s a very sad and messy way for this to all end.’

Recently Simon Cowell hit out at Arthur saying he should have just shut up. A few weeks later the former X Factor winner was owned by Paul Potts, after he chastised his PR people for promoting him in the wrong way.

We’d like to say we reached out to JA’s PR for comment, but really don’t care enough to ask.

However TheGayUK’s editor in chief, Jake Hook said:

‘Hopefully this is the last time we’ll hear about James Arthur. I find him deeply disingenuous and his behaviour insulting. Not just to the LGBT community, but to anyone who has ever bought into X Factor. It’s because of their votes – and their hard earned money that made him the winner.’

  • Single male office workers most at risk of male cancer

Ok, how would you feel if I told you to go ahead and cop a feel? Go ahead and pop your hand in and roll them both around… get a grip and give ‘em a good feel!

It’s Male Cancer Awareness Week from 7th to 13th April 2014 – and to mark this occasion, there’s some startling new research available.

Orchid, the male cancer charity has surveyed 3000 men, and the alarming fact is that those most at risk from testicular cancer are single office workers!

So here’s the deal, marry someone and get a new job, or be ahead of the game and get in there and rummage! Learn what to do, and when to do it – learn what you feel like now, and use this to ensure you pick up on any changes, any new lumps n bumps. It could be a life saver!

Some surprising insights in the research include single men being less likely to recognise the symptoms and signs of testicular cancer, office workers being less likely to check themselves, tabloid readers being more likely to be switched on and check for lumps, 1 in 3 men would tell their mum or partner if they found a lump – rather than their GP!

That last one – seriously? Come on men – what’s your mum going to do? Kiss it better? Pop a plaster on it? Time to get real – if you find something, only a medical professional can do something! My favourite piece from this research is that London men are less ball aware than other areas of the UK? Really? And here was I thinking… no, never mind…

Orchid states that awareness of this type of cancer has improved over the past few years, but the findings illustrate that a large number of men still don’t know what to look for or how to protect themselves. If it’s caught early, this type of cancer is 98% curable – so get in there and feel a friend today. Just tell them you’re saving their life!

To help ensure that happens, and help educate men out there, Orchid are launching their first freephone Male Cancer Helpline on 7th April. This Helpline is staffed 10am to 5pm every Monday and Wednesday – give ‘em a tinkle on 0808 802 0010 with your questions – or email them on helpline@orchid-cancer.org.uk

Orchid isn’t just about testicular cancer; it also looks at prostate and penile cancers, supporting research and campaigns to help raise awareness. This charity was set up by a testicular cancer patient and focuses on the effect of cancer on men. Give them some support if you can.

So boys, do your research, Google how to check yourself, get a friend to check you, arm yourself with some knowledge – and make sure you’re ball aware! Who knew ball games could be such fun?

  • CEO of Mozilla Steps Down After Anti-Gay Marriage Row

The CEO of Mozilla, Brendan Eich has stepped down after a week of harsh criticism of his anti-gay marriage controversy.

Mozilla, the makers of the Firefox web browser made a statement via its company blog announcing the resignation of Eich.
    The statement read:

“Mozilla prides itself on being held to a different standard and, this past week, we didn’t live up to it,” wrote executive chairwoman Mitchell Baker. “We didn’t act like you’d expect Mozilla to act. We didn’t move fast enough to engage with people once the controversy started. We’re sorry. We must do better.”

“What’s next for Mozilla’s leadership is still being discussed. We want to be open about where we are in deciding the future of the organization and will have more information next week. However, our mission will always be to make the Web more open so that humanity is stronger, more inclusive and more just: that’s what it means to protect the open Web.”

Earlier in the week Eich said that he would not step down from the company over his personal beliefs. However, after a firestorm amongst gay rights organisations and a campaign by OKCupid it seems as though the CEO had no choice. The dating service urged users to boycott the browser

In 2008, Eich made a $1000 donation to the Prop 8 ballot. Prop 8 banned same-sex marriage in California.

  • Rupert Everett to investigate sex industry

Actor and writer Rupert Everett is to present a new programme which investigates the sex industry.

Prostitutes are often seen as either immoral individuals or exploited victims, but in this authored two-parter, Rupert gets behind the stereotypes and hears the unvarnished truth from both sex workers and their clients. “Prostitutes,” he says, “are the world’s unacknowledged experts on our most intimate desires.”

Rupert is a passionate defender of the dignity and rights of a group of people who he feels have been unjustly stigmatised for thousands of years. In Love for Sale, Rupert offers an unusually truthful and honest insight into the business, and a funny and sometimes angry attack on the hypocrisy that surrounds the subject. Rupert has a natural connection to the men and women who trade their bodies for a living and gets to the core of what trading means, or does not mean to them.

In the first programme, Why People Sell Sex, filmed across the UK, France, the Netherlands and Israel, Rupert meets a range of sex workers, from the young rent boy working the backstreets of Tel Aviv, to the single mother in Exeter who loves her work and high class Brazilian escort who charges her clients £700 per hour. Rupert also visits his former home of Paris to meet some of the women who work the Bois de Boulogne, a notorious rendezvous for prostitutes. He tells the moving story of his old friend, whose brutal murder brought home to him the dangers sex workers face.

Rupert has an insightful perspective on the subject, which has allowed him, with producers Swan Films, to create two very unique films illuminating the honest truth of sex work.

In the second programme, Why People Buy Sex, Rupert explores the motivations of the men who use prostitutes, talking to self-confessed sex addicts, a married man who enjoys sexual role play with a dominatrix. He also meets a divorced transgender father whose experiences with his ‘straight’ male clients casts a fascinating light on the sexuality of British men and a successful businessman who claims to have spent £150,000 on massage parlour prostitutes in two years. He also meets comedian/actor Russell Brand who talks about his own experiences.

Commissioned by Sara Ramsden, Commissioning Editor for Specialist Factual for Channel 4, Love for Sale will be produced by Swan Films, executive produced by Neil Crombie and Joe Evans and directed by Michael Waldman.

Sara Ramsden says: “Rupert has a unique authorial voice and his opinions range from the theological to the ideological. It’s great to see someone stand up so strongly for the dignity of women living with very difficult choices.
