  • Daily Mail Readers Can Not Help Themselves As Tamal Ray Comes Out

One can’t help but look, but when the Daily Mail reported that Tamal Ray from Great British Bake Off came out as gay, we had to go through the DM’s comment section to see what its readers thought….

Now we’re careful to point out here that these are moderated comments and do not reflect the thoughts, opinions or anything else of the DM editorial team…

There was a lot of conspiracy talk of the BBC ticking boxes.

Bert Puttocks: “Another BBC diversity box ticked”

JackMonroeFanClub: “The BBC has to tick the boxes. No random selection of candidates here methinks.”

Hansel: Boxed ticked. Well done BBC. Another year a, another chance to open the diversity playbook.

Then there were those who were happy with the proactive actions they had taken to make sure no gayness ever entered their living rooms ever again:

allyc: “So glad I cancelled my TV licence.”

    That’ll show em…

Stephen: This guy is a dream come true for the left wing, he seems to tick all of the right boxes to gain him favour with them.

    smg: is everyone gay now?

However to be fair and balanced – there were a lot of positive comments – but most people commented on whether Tamal was a “heartthrob” – the answer is yes people, yes!

  • 6 Things We Learnt This Week, Janice Dickinson to Jeremy Corbyn

This week has been a week of wonder… One that could either lead to greatness or mayhem. From Janice Dickinson promising to be a surrogate mother, to Jeremy Corbyn’s election as the new Labour leader.

    1) Janice promises to be Austin Armacost and Jake Lee’s surrogate for any child they may have in the future… This is an interesting concept and won that we think would make an excellent reality TV show.

    2) The first ever “test-tube baby” Louise Brown is delighted that gay couples can use IVF to start familes.

    3) Elton John reaches out to President Putin to discuss ‘ridiculous’ anti-gay prejudice. According to The Guardian the Rocket Man has asked for 5 with the Russian Prez. We await the outcome. If Elton can achieve the melt down he did for Dolce And Gabbana, maybe there could be so movement, then against probs not.

    4) This news site based in the deeply homophobic country of Nigeria suggests women could and should strap on a dildo and screw their men. Unsurprisingly the men in the poll aren’t so sure.

    5) Jeremy Corbyn, who has voted pro gay issues since his induction as an MP, has been voted in as the new Labour leader.

    6) The Daily Mail, thinks that Brits have won a “war” because famous women over the age of 70 haven’t had plastic surgery,

  • New Report Released on Gay Hate Crime Challenges

A new report has been released by Nottingham Trent University that has for the first time examined the perspectives of police officers and the issues they face preventing hate crime.

Carried out by Nottingham Law School on behalf of the Hate Crime Steering Group, it involved in-depth interviews conducted with frontline officers from Nottinghamshire Police. The outcomes of this are to be shared among UK forces by the government.

The reports author, Dr Loretta Trickett, has claimed: “many of the officers I interviewed were not fully engaged with the current format” and that while officers are clear on what hate crime is and know the procedures to follow, more training from external agencies on how to sufficiently deal with complicated cases is vital.

Hate crime is currently an area of priority for the police, including five monitored areas, two of these being sexual orientation and gender identity. The crime itself makes up 1% of overall crime, with 44,480 incidents being recorded by police in 2013/14.

  • Hotel Worker Convicted For Raping Man Attending Job Interview

Sebastian Szerer, 39 was convicted of one count of rape today, Wednesday, 29 July, following a trial at the Old Bailey.

The court heard that Szerer raped the 25-year-old man at the Rubens Hotel, Buckingham Palace Road, Westminster, on 15 April, 2012, when he went there for the interview for a job which did not exist.

He conducted the interview and then showed the victim around the hotel.

The court heard he then took him the Queen’s Suite at the hotel. Szerer then locked the room and proceeded to rape the victim.

The victim kept the assault secret for a year until Szerer sent him a message on a social networking site stating “hello stranger”.

It was this message prompted the victim to attend Victim Support and tell them about the rape.

They then encouraged him to contact the police.

On 23 April, 2013, Szerer was arrested and subsequently charged.

Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Lee Davison, of Sexual Offences Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, said:

“Szerer abused his position as Head House Keeper.

“He purposely lured the victim to the hotel on the pretext of a job interview that didn’t exist. He then raped him. Thankfully he has been found guilty and I praise the victim today for his decision to report this rape to the police.

“The Metropolitan Police’s Sexual Offences Exploitation & Child Abuse Command will pursue all such offenders to bring them to justice and I would encourage anyone who has suffered at the hand of another to report the matter in the knowledge that they will be believed and supported.”

Szerer will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Thursday, 30 July.
