CHERYL BAKER | World Wide Song Contest Long Overdue

One of the UK’s most successful Eurovision acts, Cheryl Baker has said that a world-wide song contest is long overdue.

Speaking to TheGayUK Cheryl Baker, who was part of the original Bucks Fizz who took the UK to victory in 1981 with their song Making Your Mind Up, has said that a world-wide song contest is well overdue.

” I think it’s long overdue, to be perfectly honest. I mean, it is already the biggest musical event in the world.

“There is nothing bigger. So, yes, America … I should think they’re broadcasting it because they think, “Hang on, I think I see a trick here.”

Having just returned from Stockholm, Cheryl remarked at the true “camaraderie” that happens at the event.

“I’ve just got back from Stockholm. The one thing that really stands out is the camaraderie and the fact that everyone there is rooting for everyone. You see, you know, if Israel is on stage, you still see Greek flags and Spanish flags. They’re all just there because it’s such a joyous occasion. It just unities everybody.

    “Globalvision. That’s a good name.”

    Do you agree?

Cheryl Baker will be live Tweeting about the Eurovision Song Content from 8PM tonight. She’ll be performing in London as well – for the Abigail’s Footsteps Charity.

The duo, who insist that they are just friends, haven’t ruled out kissing each other at the end of their performance on Eurovision, with Joe saying,  “if needs must. Let’s not take anything off the table here”

Speaking to The Sun Online the cheeky pair said that their fans had asked them to kiss at the end of their song.

Although they called the request from fans “bizarre” they haven’t ruled it out.

Joe added,“I don’t think they realise that we’re just mates, but we’re listening to everything they’re saying.”

The You’re Not Alone singers met originally on The Voice – and are set to sing live in front of an audience of 200 million on Saturday night.

So are they boyfriends? Apparently not – and they aren’t looking for a relationship either.

    Jake added,

“To be honest we don’t have time for a great deal. We don’t even have time to go home and see our parents, never mind a relationship.”

“We’re too focused on the music, aren’t we Joe? We’re too focused on getting a good result for the UK.”

The boys, it seems, have impressed the rest of Europe. After a rehearsal in Stockholm, bookies slashed their odds of placing last in the competition to actually coming in the top 10. The last the UK entry to come anywhere close to winning the competition was Jade Ewen with the Lloyd-Webber tune, It’s My Time.

New hopes have surfaced that the UK’s entry to Eurovision could land in the top 10.

The duo met when they both appeared on TV talent show The Voice.

Pop duo Joe and Jake went down well in a practice run with their song You’re Not Alone over the weekend and they are currently being offered at 33/1 by bookmakers William Hill, which means that their odds of coming in the top 10 have halved from 8/1 to 4/1.

William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said,

“Our expectations are improving, last week we thought that a last place finish was a possibility but after their audition we think that a top ten finish is not out of the question.”

Ukraine’s entry Jamala is the current favourites to win performing the song 1944.

Eurovision will be broadcast on BBC 1 on Saturday.

So where do you think we’ll place? Top or Bottom?

Speaking on Malta TV, Star said,

‘Maybe people in Moscow have a rough time with people like me, maybe because I’m gay, maybe because I dress like this, maybe because I wear make-up, I don’t know. But when I wanted to get into Moscow, I had problems with passport control. They told me I can’t go in, they looked at my passport, they ripped my passport.

Star also claimed that the two officers laughed at him.

‘It’s amazing that this happened in the Eurovision bubble because my song Made of Stars it talks about equality it talks about how everybody is the same, everybody was born the same, everybody will die the same.

During his interview in Malta, Star talked about how his song, Made Of Stars, is about equality and how everybody is born the same and dies the same.

The live studio audience erupted into applause at his speech.

Joe and Jake may be cute, but their song isn’t doing it for the bookies as William Hill puts the duo’s odds of winning at 50 to 1. To make matters worse the book maker is giving odds of  8 to 1 to come last.

William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said,

“Things are not looking good for the duo chances and we think they are unlikely to feel like having a selfie at the end of the competition,

“They could well get humiliated again.”

The band’s chances of winning have slumped since February when bookies were giving the UK odds of 20 to 1.
