  • NEWS: Will James Arthur appear on X-Factor this weekend?

Thousands of people have signed an online petition to have the previous X-Factor winner James Arthur banned from singing his new single on World AIDS Day.

It’s still unclear, as momentum grows, if James Arthur will or will not appear on the show. It seems thousands of people are still not happy with the singers behaviour over the last few weeks where he made a rap video calling a fellow rapper a ‘f**king queer’.

James apologised for the rap saying, ‘Some of the things said in this rap can be mistaken for homophobic slurs and I assure you homophobia is something I do not believe in’.

However some people have spoken up about there being no mistake in the language choice used.

‘The context was “you’re a f***ing queer” and went on to say “‘you probably want to stick your dick in me” – if that doesn’t insinuate homosexuality then what does? There’s no mistaking!’, messaged one reader on GayStarNews.

With the performance set for World AIDS Day, some have questioned if this is appropriate as more people seem less impressed with Arthur’s apology. The big question still being asked is, will James perform or not?

  • Can Twitter predict the X Factor 2013 winner?

Last year we ran a piece where we predicted the winners of X Factor 2012 by the number of Twitter followers they had, we call it the T.W.A.T.S system.

It’s not an exact science, but by using the number of Twitter fans each contestant had as a barometer (science word) of potential success we managed to get quite an actuate picture of who was going to win.

So going via the same formula we predict that this is how the X Factor Finals 2013 might look:

    1st Sam Callahan 175,185
    2nd Nicholas McDonald 138, 629
    3rd Kingsland Road 119,352
    4th Tamera Foster 114,081
    5th Luke Friend 113, 314
    6th Rough Copy 107,509
    7th Sam Bailey 89,811
    8th Abi Alton 66,422
    9th Hannah Barrett 58,239
    10th Miss Dynamix 37,001
    11th Shelley Smith 30,023
    12th Lorna Simpson 9,592

Now as we said earlier we’re not scientists, and this barely constitutes as news, but if we were Hannah or Abi, we’d be shaping up our act – or at least faking some Twitter numbers!

  • Eurovision Unveils Butterfly Logo

We’re gearing up here at TGUK HQ for Eurovision 2013. With Bonnie burning up in the wings we’re sure this year’s contest will be fair, fun and fabulously Swedish.

    Eurovision 2013

Ok sarcasm aside about the fair bit, we’re quite taken with this year’s logo, which takes the shape of a rather beautiful butterfly.

So where’s the idea from? Well the lovely peeps at Eurovision.TV have said:

‘Eurovision Song Contest is a shared project. It unites millions of people. In the east, west, north and south. Beyond all the glitter, there is a thought. A big idea that is 100% relevant for Public Service. It’s about togetherness, diversity and happiness. Eurovision Song Contest might appear as a trivial matter. But a trivial matter that engages over one hundred million people of all ages in more than 40 countries all over the world. And today science knows that sometimes small matters can start powerful and big movements. This phenomenon is called ”The Butterfly Effect”. A flap from one butterfly can – at least in theory – start a hurricane. Butterflies have one common name, but exist in thousands of different shapes and colours. Just like the Eurovision Song Contest, one strong identity with a rich national diversitiesy [sic]. Working together, we can achieve anything – We are one.

    Ah, isn’t it beautiful!!

So Eurovision is just over a month away, what will you be doing for it?
