Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Video Suggests Gays Can Be Changed
A video from the Jehovah’s Witnesses has suggested that gay people can be changed, by simply quoting bible verses and talking about the paradise that awaits them.

CREDIT: Jehovah-s-Witnesses photo.ua The Jehovah’s Witnesses have released a video entitled: Lesson 22: One Man, One Woman, in which a school child is told that gay people can be made to change if you preach bible verses to them, along with telling them about the paradise that awaits them if they stop being gay.
In the video, which looks like it’s been produced as an educational tool for children, a parent tells her daughter that, “people have their own ideas about what is right and what is wrong, but what matters is what Jehovah feels”, after she shares that a fellow classmate drew a picture of her family, with two mums.
The mother goes on to say that,
“He wants us to be happiest and that’s why he invented marriage the way he did.”
The video then goes on to liken homosexuality to taking a forbidden item on to a plane – but in order to gain access to the plane (or paradise) we all have to follow Jehovah’s standards.
The mother then goes on to suggest that people can change – which is why Jehovah’s Witnesses ‘spread his message’.
The video which has been made available to download for free on the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ website, was produced by Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York Inc.

Darren Hayes | I’m Envious Of Adam Lambert!
Former Savage Garden frontman Darren Hayes has told THEGAYUK how much he admires openly gay singers in today’s industry.
CREDIT: kathclick-bigstock Speaking to The Gay UK, hit maker Darren Hayes, has said how he’s envious of singers such as Adam Lambert and Sam Smith who have been open about their sexuality from the start of their careers.
CREDIT: PR Supplied / Jesse Reece Darren (pictured above), who fronted Savage Garden from 1993 and had worldwide hits with songs such as Truly Madly Deeply and To The Moon And Back, praised American Idol’s Adam Lambert for his openness whilst reflecting on his days as Savage Garden’s lead singer.
Speaking about when he came out, Darren told us,
“When I (came out as) gay I wasn’t worried about losing money. I was worried about committing suicide because I was so sad in my own self. I hated myself and I think if there was ever a fear it was just that people wouldn’t love me, people wouldn’t like me.”
When asked if it was refreshing to see so many openly gay musicians like Adam Lambert, Darren replied,
“I’m envious of Adam Lambert. I love his journey.
“I totally relate to Adam. You end up growing out of that when you can’t fit into those clothes but I admire him.
“He’s such a beautiful creature.”
Adam Lambert came out after his appearance on the 8th series of American Idol in an interview in Rolling Stone in 2009.
In 2014 Adam Lambert spoke openly about having his and Sam Smith’s sexuality discussed in public and noted that coming out, even for artists today was still a “drama or talking point”.

LGBT Business Becomes First To Be Named National Small Business
For the first time in history an LGBT business has been awarded a national accolade.
CREDIT: GaudiLab/bigstock A Californian coffee shop has become the first LGBT business to be recognised as the National Small Business of the year from the United States’ Small Business Adminstration (SBA). It has become the first openly LGBT run business in the SBA’s 63 years.
The SBA awarded Equator Coffees & Teas in California the National Small Business award, making the coffee shop the first LGBT business to be recognised in the awards.

The SBA was created in 1953 to aid, counsel, assist and protect the interests of small business concerns, to preserve free competitive enterprise and to maintain and strengthen the overall economy of the United States.
Speaking at the award cermony Maria Contreras-Sweet, Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration said,
“It is my extreme pleasure and honor to announce that business partners Brooke McDonnell and Helen Russell from Equator Coffees & Teas headquartered in San Rafael, California are this year’s national Small Business Person(s) of the Year. It all started in 1995 when they started to roast coffee in Brooke’s garage. Equator now has 90 employees and 350 wholesale customers including the renowned French Laundry restaurant, cafes at LinkedIn, micro-kitchens at Google and three retail stores in Northern California with two more on the way,” Contreras-Sweet said. “Helen and Brooke purchased their own roasting plant using an SBA 504 loan. They have worked diligently with their farmers for 17 years and were one of the first roasters to support the Fair Trade movement to gain better wages for growers.”
“The overall competition was extremely competitive this year. The highlight of my day was to be able to meet and award every state and territory winner and thank them for all they do for their local economy and America’s small business community. Two out of three net new jobs in America are created by small businesses and it’s all of our small business winners today who are leading the way,” Contreras-Sweet added.
According to the Equator Coffees & Teas website the business “was established in 1995, when business partners Brooke McDonnell and Helen Russell began roasting coffee in a Marin County garage, it marked the beginning of their journey to build a high-impact coffee company focused on quality, sustainability and social responsibility.”

Twitter users have asked entertainment giant Disney to give Elsa a girlfriend in Frozen 2.
©2013 Disney. All Rights Reserved. Using the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend Twitter users across the world have asked entertainment giant Disney to give the central character of Elsa a girlfriend in the next instalment of Frozen.
Frozen is the biggest grossing animation film of all time, and as already been hailed as ground breaking and progressive for not following a traditional narrative for the film’s lead Elsa.

To date no mainstream Disney film has ever had an LGBT character at its centre, although Frozen does contain one of the most visible gay characters ever. When Oaken, the store owner introduces his family – it is another man with a number of children around him.

The hashtag managed to trend on Twitter at number 3 – with tens of thousands of tweets, many from people agreeing with Alexis Isabel’s stance. The Disney team have yet to respond to the request.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland, The Gay UK’s editor Jake Hook said it would be a welcome move from Disney, but remarked even if they didn’t go down the path of giving Elsa a girlfriend to not give into traditional trends and make Elsa fall in love with a man in order to win the day.

Darren Hayes Blasts Sony Over Access To Back Catalogue Videos
Former Savage Garden singer Darren Hayes has blasted Sony Music for allegedly not upholding a deal which would allow him to have access to his back catalogue.
CREDIT: PR Supplied Darren Hayes, who recently celebrated 20 years of Savage Garden has taken a swipe at his record label, Sony Music, calling them ’embarrassing’ over, he says, not allowing him and his fans access to music videos that he made during his career.
The artist, who now lives in Los Angeles with his husband, says he has spent millions on music videos, has alleged his original label is not allowing various territories to view the content and has so far refused to answer emails, messages or phone calls.
In his open letter to Sony the Moon And Back singer said,
“As a recording artist, I’ve been charged many many millions of dollars, taken out of the sales of my albums, to finance the music videos made in my career. Since 1997 I’ve made many music videos and you can be assured every single one of them was charged to me and repaid from my earnings, as per my recording agreements.”

Traditionally an artist like Savage Garden would have had to pay back their record company most if not all expenses to do with promoting their albums. Record companies will initially pay to have music videos made, along with other promotional materials which an artist, over time, and through their record sales would pay back.
Artists, as per their agreements, will pay back the label until all costs are met – this is called recoupment. It can often taken years to recoup.

Darren continued,
“I recently re-negotiated the terms of my recording contract where I was assured I would have access to all my official Savage Garden and Darren Hayes music videos I paid for. It’s 2016 and to date, many of my solo videos are missing, or if they do exists, are restricted from view in the UK, Australia and many parts of Europe FOR NO REASON
“At the time of writing, I still don’t even have access to my official Savage Garden YouTube page – a condition that was promised to me when I agreed to allow Sony to continue to distribute my catalogue under their original deal. Since going through the official channels doesn’t seem to work, I’m just making this information public so someone in charge might see this.
“It is completely disrespectful to me as an artist, and after the amount of money I’ve contributed to Sony that they would treat my legacy with such disinterest. If you’re out there Sony, return your phone calls, give me access to my music videos and for god’s sake, re-evalute who you’ve put in charge of your online content globally because it’s embarrassing.
