  • 14 Things Gay Men Did That Prove They Are Years Ahead Of Their Time

Gay men are known for being early adopters of everything from tech to culture to fashion.

Here are fourteen things you know you found before your straight friends. Some of these we can be proud of, some are better best forgotten.

    1) Electric Blue lighting…

There was a time in the late 90s / early noughties when gay bars were lit almost exclusively (not really) by electric blue lighting. It was like a gay calling card. Moths to a flame. Hardly a bar in the UK didn’t have their logo or name backlit with that midnight colour.

  • Judge Rinder Blasts “Homophobic” Landlord After Wanting Lesbian To Replace Bed

A “homophobic” landlord has felt the wrath of Judge Rinder after he demanded that an ex-tenant, who happens to be a lesbian, should pay for a new bed.

A landlord has felt the cold stare of Judge Rinder after making a complaint that a lesbian ex-tenant should have to fork £399 out for a new bed because he was unsure what she had done in it.
When Judge Rinder asked why he was entitled to a new bed, he said, in front of a stunned court room,

“When i found out that she is what she is, I wanted to change the bed. I don’t know what’s been happening on the bed.”

He also said he couldn’t understand why she was a lesbian, when there were plenty of men like him around…
Judge Rinder, who was married by Benedict Cumberbatch to his husband in 2014, is now celebrating his fourth series on ITV.
  • MP Mike Freer Shares Information That Poppers Are Not Harmful To Society

MP Mike Freer has called for the “pause” on banning poppers in the Government’s forthcoming Psychoactive Substances Bill.

The bill which will outlaw all legal highs, will see the selling of poppers formally known as alkyl nitrate, become a criminal offense.

Conservative MP for Finchley & Golders Green Mike Freer has said that the Government needs to reconsider the bill and “pause the banning of poppers”, which is due to be debated on Wednesday 20th January.

Earlier today the MP tweeted a letter from the Advisory Committee of the Misuse of Drugs where they said that poppers were “not seen to be capable of having harmful effects sufficient to constitute a societal problem.”

Poppers are largely used by the gay community to aid in anal sex due to its relaxation effects, which can make penetration for the receptive partner easier.

  • Spice Girls Will Get Back Together Under One Condition

Spice Girls Will Get Back Together Under One Condition

It seems crazy that the Spice Girls will celebrate their 20th anniversary this year. They could be getting back together for a tour, but Victoria Beckham has one condition.

Back in 1996 Ginger, Scary, Baby, Sporty and Posh burst onto the music scene with their brash look, bottom pinching and catchy pop tunes. (Who Do You Think You Are, is our fave)

Twenty years on, their fanbase (us included) are howling for a reunion and not of an ITV2 Big Reunion type.

Speaking to The Mirror a source close to Victoria Beckham said that she’d be up for doing some shows with the girls, but probably not all, wanting to put David and her kids first.

    The source said,

“However she stressed she needed to focus on David and the kids this year after a stressful 2015 of trying to juggle work and family life, so committing to all the dates would be too much.

“She already has a lot on her plate with her design empire.”

So she may only do London dates… Will you travel to London to see their shows?

  • Has The Scottish Parliament Failed LGBT Children?

In a decision branded “shocking”, the Scottish Parliament has rejected a call to include LGBTI+ education in Scottish schools.

Yesterday morning, Tuesday 12th Jan, a petition put forward asking the “Scottish government to make the teaching of LGBTI+ issues and topics statutory” was unanimously rejected by representatives of Scotland’s three majority parties according to Buzzfeed.

The group of MSPs said it was unable to ask the Scottish government to force through LGBTI inclusion in its schools.

The co-founder of the TIE campaign, Jordan Daly, said:

“Absolutely the wrong decision has been made here. How many more chil

  • Was Channel 5 Right To Show Angie Bowies Reaction To David’s Death?

Fans of Celebrity Big Brother have taken to Twitter to blast Channel 5 for showing what appeared to be Angie Bowie’s first reaction to the news of her ex’s death.

During tonight’s show Channel 5 will show Angie’s reactions to David Bowie’s death. Although they are keen to stress that the LGBT advocate was told by her own representatives, off camera, before returning to the house and the diary room.

Angie Bowie was married to the legendary singer from 1970 to 1980. David Bowie died yesterday at the age of 69, just two days after his birthday and the release of his final album Blackstar.

After being told about David’s death Angie returned to the house and to the diary room where Big Brother asked Angie how she felt.

She replied, “I’m fine. I think I’ll feel better if I cry, but I can’t cry at the moment. I haven’t seen him in so many years, I can’t make a big drama out of it; I just feel like an era has ended with his passing. I’m so very sad.”

Angie then starts to cry, and Big Brother tells her to take her time, as there is no rush to go back into the house.

Big Brother then called John and David to the diary room, to offer Angie some support.

In the diary room, both John and David are shocked by the news that Angie has told them, and they offer their support. She remarks, “The Stardust is gone.”

John then asked her if she wants to keep this news private. Angie said that she would.

Angie confirmed to Big Brother that she was happy to go back into the house, and John and David advised her to say she’s just feeling unwell.

John and David accompanied Angie back into the living area.

CBB continues tonight on Channel 5 from 9PM

  • Is Grindr Gay Anymore? Grindr sells Majority Stake To Chinese Tech Firm

Is Grindr Gay Anymore? Grindr sells Majority Stake To Chinese Tech Firm

Grindr has announced that it has sold a 60 per cent stake in its business to a Chinese gaming firm.

The self-funded growth of Grindr has come to an end. The world’s most famous gay dating app has sold a majority stake, reportedly worth $93m (£64m), of its business to tech firm Kunlun Tech Co, in China, a country which one can argue has a questionable gay rights history.

Taking to Grindr’s blog founder and CEO Joel Simkhai said,

“For nearly seven years, Grindr has self-funded its growth,

“We have taken this investment in our company to accelerate our growth, to allow us to expand our services for you, and to continue to ensure that we make Grindr the number one app and brand for our millions of users.”

Sixty per cent of the company has been sold to Kunlun Tech Co, a gaming company, whose chairman Zhou Yahui, 38, became a billionaire last year after his company was listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in January.

The remainder of the company belongs to Simkhai and Grindr’s employees.

Grindr’s revenue was reported to be around $32 million in 2014, just a fraction of what Yahui has paid for the gay dating app.

The company is valued at around $150 million. Not bad for a startup which was created by Mr. Simkhai in 2009 with a couple of thousand dollars of investment. Its agreement with it’s new owner means that Grindr’s founders will continue to operate as is and it will, for now, retain the current team.

Speaking with THEGAYUK in 2012, Simkhai said that the thought of selling grindr made him “anxious” when he gave it too much thought. He said,

“(The) notion that ‘Joel, ‘X days from now or X months from now that Grindr will not be part of your life but just be a part of my resume or a part of my history’ makes me very anxious, makes me very uncomfortable.”

So now the new majority owner is a self identified straight man, what will become of the world’s most famous gay app?
