Britain is celebrating its first openly gay cabinet minister David Mundell who came out as gay yesterday.
With 34 out MPs Britain has more openly gay serving politicians than any other country in the world. Mr Mundell’s coming out makes him the highest-ranking openly gay MP serving as Scottish Secretary in David Cameron’s front bench.
Taking to his website the Scottish Secretary said,
“I have already set out my political priorities for the year and now I am setting out my personal one. Having taken one of the most important decisions of my life and resolved to come out publicly as gay in 2016, I just want to get on with it, and now, just like that, I have said it.”
Mr Mundell is just one of three MP in Scotland who are not from the Scottish National Party. The Scottish National Party won 56 out of 59 seats. Mr Mundell, from the Conservative party managed to hold onto Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale.
