  • THEGAYUK Meets… Male Fashion Blogger Mr Matthew

At the beginning of the German Summer, I had the pleasure of visiting the city of Dresden for the local Pride Festival, known locally as Christopher Street Day (CSD) after the street in New York which is home to the infamous Stonewall Hotel.

I caught up with local fashionista Mister Matthew, to discuss being a male fashion blogger in a small city in Germany. Mister Matthew’s blog (in German) is a great source of fashion advice for men wanting to give their wardrobe a bit of European flair.

Aaron Holloway: Why did you decide to make a fashion blog?

Mister Matthew: I always liked to show myself on the internet. But one day, social media was not enough anymore. My boyfriend taught me the idea of creating a place on the internet, where I can do whatever I want, where I can be the boss, the leader. He created a website for me and thought me some things about web hosting. Since that day, it was in May 2014, I have my own Blog. To write about the topic of fashion was quite clear because I always loved to dress myself up. I spend hours and hours with choosing the right piece of clothing. So I made fashion and style the main topics of my Blog. But there are a lot of more things that I am talking about, just like cosmetics, travel, lifestyle, events and so on.

AH: What makes your blog different from others?

MM: There are so many female fashion blogger in the scene it is almost scary. As a male fashion blogger, I am a bit more unique, which I like. I do not like to compare myself too much with different bloggers, but if I have to, I need to say that I make a painting for every outfit that I show on my blog, which is quite unique. With my blog and my fashion, I always try to be political or maybe provocatively. For example last year I showed a burka experiment on my Blog, which was quite crazy.

AH: Is Dresden a fashion city?

MM: Not really, no. I like the architecture and the sense of art from the city. Dresden is a really nice place to live, but not a fashion city. In relation to London, Paris and Milano, Dresden is just like the people never ever heard of something more than just basic-fashion. Sometimes it’s quite depressing, sometimes It’s good because I can be more unique that way.

AH: What is your favourite item of clothing?

MM: My favourite item of clothing is a huge, heavy, beautiful coat. I just love autumn and winter, because I love the fashion in it so much. I could not live without a real good coat. It always looks nice in combination with leather shoes.

AH: What would you say is the best part of your job?

MM: The people. My Blog/my job brought me together with so many beautiful people, just like you. Writers, readers, photographers, designer, blogger… the list is endless. I just love to meet or get in contact with people because of my Blog. There have been so many in the last 3 years, it’s insane. I meet the most people because of my Blog at Fashion Weeks or Events.

AH: What is the best Fashion Event to travel to?

MM: I think it depends on what kind of fashion and what kind of events do you like. Some people like it bigger, some people like it smaller. For me, Berlin Fashion Week was the best Fashion Event for me to travel to. But I am pretty sure, there will be different events in the future that I’ll like more.

AH: What is the best perk of being a blogger?

MM: The benefit I like the most is the fact that I am able to manage my time by myself. I do not have a boss or something. I do not have a strict work plan. That is quite refreshing and after 12 years of school just really cool.

AH: Are you given the clothes you feature on your blog or are they personal items that you love?

MM: It’s a mixture of both things. I show a lot of things that I bought for myself, of course. But I also get featured with fashion from different labels and designers. To be honest: I really love it to get fashion for free, because I love fashion so much. And at the end of every month, my money is empty because I freaked out at the shop around the corner.

AH: What advice would you have for people interested in being a blogger?

MM: Just be yourself and please: be as much as creative as possible. I think the blogger scene could need a little bit more of creativity.

AH: Where can we see more of Mister Matthew?

MM: On my Blog, of course, or at the German television series “Diktator”, that aired a few months ago on German Television.

  • 4 Tips To Going Nude In Iceland

As the name implies, Iceland is frickin’ cold.

Although they may only get a few days of sunshine each year, Iceland’s summers make British summer seem positively balmy. So getting naked and wandering around in a field is not going to be an option for about 360 days of the year. I mean you could, but there’d be some serious shrinkage. However, we’ve never let that stop us before have we boys? 😉

So if you’re planning to bare it all in the barren countryside of the land of ice, here are a few things you should know before stripping off:

    1. You won’t find (m)any Icelandic nudist groups

The cool and laid-back nature of Icelanders will have you thinking that nudism is widely celebrated like it is in many other European countries. In truth, nudism in Iceland is more typically done individually rather than in groups or at social gatherings, as it has only recently started to be popular.

    2. Spa does NOT imply nude spa

Unlike my recent trip to Germany which left me lacking a towel even when in polite company, Icelanders aren’t all about getting your bits out. Spas and swimming pools are a big part of Icelandic culture, but they almost always involve wearing swimming trunks. So don’t rock up to the Blue Lagoon with the D hanging out. You will be asked to leave. (However, the water is so opaque, I doubt anyone would notice if you stripped off while you were in there)

    3. You MUST shower naked

Let me clarify that, as you probably shower naked anyway. You must shower naked before entering public pools or spas. There were even shower police on-hand in the changing rooms to make sure that you didn’t just rinse yourself in your swimmers. Showering thoroughly before getting into the spa is a topic of national importance in Iceland. So much so that this public service message was made to further clarify the issue.

    4. Find a remote spot to strip off

Spas in and around the capital city tend not to allow nudity, likewise with the Blue Lagoon. And while there aren’t any official nude beaches or specific nudist locations in Iceland, the vast majority of Iceland is barren and remote, with plenty of natural hot springs and geyser dotted across its volcanic landscape. And while I wouldn’t recommend skinny dipping in a geyser as they tend to reach temperatures of 80-100 degrees Celsius, few people would judge you for stripping off in a secluded natural hot spring.

Maybe check out the Secret Lagoon, but be warned, there may be children there. And keep an eye out on social media for groups looking to promote naturism within Iceland. They will often rent out swimming pools after hours, or arrange nudist meetups in remote locations, which would be a great way to get nekkid and mingle with some Viking locals in the buff.

Be sure to let us know how you get on!

  • Sam and Jordan got very close last night in bed

CBB stars Sam Thompson and Jordan Davies got very close last night in bed…

Sam and Jordan got very close last night in bed

It all began with Jordan saying to his bed mate Sam, “I’m happy with our bed situation… I was expecting a hand around me this morning”. The pair chose to sleep in the same bed after all the available single beds were taken by their fellow housemates.

The reality stars got closer than they thought last night after sharing a bed. It seems as though Jordan out his arms around Sam in his sleep – ahhh!

    Spooning time?

The lads were discussing their sharing situation when Jordan remembered that he started touching Sam’s hair in his sleep- after he forgot that he was sharing with him. Sam also reminds him that Jordan was also stroking his back. To which Jordan says he remembers before collapsing to the floor in laughter.

Sam, laughed and said, “I thought it was a dream” … before adding  “let it happen!”

    Let this summer’s Bromance begin…

  • Trump bans trans people from the military

President Donald Trump has announced that trans people will no longer be employed by the US military.

Trump bans trans people from the military

Taking to Twitter earlier, Donald Trump announced that due to “disruption” and tremendous cost, transgender people will no longer be able to serve in the US military.

After consulting with his generals and “military experts”, Trump announced that transgender people will be banned from service. This is in stark contrast to the Obama administration which allowed transgender people to serve their country openly last year.

In a series of tweets, Mr Trump wrote,

“After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military.

“Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail.”

The announcement is in contrast to Trump’s pledge to protect LGBT people during his election campaign. Taking to Twitter in June 2016 he said that he would “fight” for the community.

It not yet clear whether transgender people, who are already employed by the US military will lose their jobs.

The LGBT+ campaign group, GLAAD, said Mr Trump’s announcement was “a direct attack on transgender Americans”.

UK singer and LGBT+ advocate Jamie Lambert said,  “Trans Community. No matter what Trump does, or what he says, you are loved. We respect your rights, and we respect you”.

  • People really want a gay version of Love Island – with one condition

It seems that a gay version of ITV 2’s runaway hit, Love Island would go down a storm – but people are asking for it on one condition…

People really want a gay version of Love Island - with one condition

People have asked for “ordinary guys”

Apparently, TV execs are eyeing up a gay version of ITV 2’s runaway hit series Love Island after the creator, Richard Cowes said he’d love to see a man on man version of the show but said that trying to mix the two versions would be difficult. The show although praised for its entertainment value has failed in representing LGBT+ relationships.

However, on the back of that news, THEGAYUK’s readers seem well up for a gay version as long as the guy they chose reflect the real bodies of people.

The men on this season of Love Island have certainly got pulses racing, but how representative are they to the average population? Numerous commentators on our original story praised the idea of a gay version of the show but begged for “less sculpted”  and a “cross section of guys” to be represented. People loved the idea that “someone like me” should be represented by the contestants.

So would you tune into an “ordinary” gay version of Love Island?

  • Theresa May left Peter Tatchell off the guest list for a bash celebrating LGBT life in the UK

The UK’s highest profile LGBT rights advocate has once again been left off the invite list for a 10 Downing Street reception which is honouring LGBT contributions to the UK.

Theresa May left Peter Tatchell off the guest list for a bash celebrating LGBT life in the UK

Peter Tatchell has once again been “vetoed” from a bash hosted by the UK’s Prime Minister Theresa May at 10 Downing Street today. Despite these receptions taking place every year for the last 16 years, Mr Tatchell has never once been invited – despite his tireless advocacy for the LGBT+ community in the UK.

Peter Tatchell spoke out against his “blacklisting” today saying that he took it as a “back-handed compliment” and suggested that Ms May might think him “too challenging” or not “respectable enough”.

Commenting on his “serial exclusion” Peter Tatchell said:

“I take my blacklisting as a back-handed compliment. The Prime Minister obviously thinks I am too challenging and not respectable enough to be invited. That’s fine by me.

“I don’t seek invites to Downing Street or government honours. I would not want to go to Downing Street while the Prime Minister teams up with the homophobic DUP, allows the incarceration of LGBT refugees in asylum detention centres and refuses to tackle homophobic bullying by making LGBT issues mandatory in every school.

“Theresa May doesn’t want to be confronted about such injustices. That’s probably the reason she had me barred.

“I’m glad she finds me threatening.

“My goal in life is to disturb the conscience of government. I don’t want their plaudits or hospitality. I want action for LGBT human rights”.

THEGAYUK reached out for comment from 10 Downing Street on why Mr Tatchell had been excluded only to be told that Downing Street had chosen members of the LGBT+ community that “represents a wide cross section of society”.

    A Downing street Spokesperson said,

“We are hosting a reception in Downing Street to celebrate the contribution that lesbian, gay, bi and trans people make to our country. We have invited members of the LGBT+ community from the charitable sector, the media, the armed services and the worlds of business, sports and politics which represents a wide cross section of society.”

  • TV Star Thomas Dekker has come out as gay

TV star Thomas Dekker has come out as gay!

TV Star Thomas Dekker has come out as gay

Thomas Dekker, who started his career in the television series of Terminator, the Sarah Connor Chronicles,  has publicly come out as gay after comments made earlier this week from entertainment exec Brian Fuller.

Earlier in the week, Fuller made comments that a gay storyline in the hit TV series, Heroes had to be axed following a dispute behind the scenes. The actor’s management allegedly threatened to pull the actor if the storyline went ahead.

Media outlets worldwide immediately went into speculation overdrive, with Thomas centring.

Thomas has now confirmed that it was him that Brian was talking about.

Taking to Instagram the actor said,

“My sexual orientation once again came into question this week when a prominent gay man used an awards acceptance speech to ‘out’ me,”

“While he did not mention me by name, the explicit details of his reference made it easy for the public and media to connect the dots.

“While it is an odd situation, I thank him because it presents a prime opportunity for me to publicly say that I am indeed a man who proudly loves other men. In fact, this April, I married my husband and I could not be happier.”

“I have never lied to the press about the fluidity of my sexuality but this man claiming that I came out is not true. Because I have not ‘officially’ until this moment. I simply refuse to be robbed of the glorious joy that belongs to me.

“To say the words myself. ‘I’m gay’. Those words are a badge of honor that no one can steal.

“Sexuality and who you love is a deeply personal and complicated thing. For some of us, it takes time to cultivate, discover and conclude. It is not something anyone should ever be ashamed of and certainly not something anyone should be rushed into.

“I agree with many who believe it is an important responsibility for LGBTQ persons with a platform to come out. It has the power to change minds, challenge beliefs and make others feel understood and supported. It can strengthen the progression of our community and help disarm those who discriminate against us.

“It is a brave, powerful and important thing to do but it is also a deeply personal decision. One that should only be made when you are ready.

“If we are to stand strong in the gay community, our mission should be support, not exclusion; love, not shame. I choose not to look back on the past with a regretful heart but rather focus on the future with a hopeful one. A future where myself and all others can feel free to express their true selves with honor and dignity.

“I embrace you, any of you, with open arms, kindness, faith and patience. For all of you who have supported me, before and now, I thank you from the bottom of my fledgling heart.

  • London’s transport system is going gender neutral

Hearing “Ladies and Gentlemen” on London’s Underground is set to become a thing of the past as Transport for London looks to lose gendered announcements.

London's transport system is going gender neutral

It appears that Transport for London (TfL) is to stop using the term “ladies and gentlemen” to replace with a simple “everyone” on its public announcements. Campaigners have stressed that the gendered term belongs in the past.

Employees have been told to stop using the term in announcements to passengers and instead use a more inclusive “everyone”.

The change is happening after campaigners appealed to Sadiq Khan, London’s Mayor, to update the policy on announcements.

Mark Evers, TfL’s boss of customer strategy, said the corporation wanted,

“everyone to feel welcome on our transport network”.

“We have reviewed the language that we use in announcements and elsewhere and will make sure that it is fully inclusive, reflecting the great diversity of London.”

Stonewall, the LGBT charity backed the changes saying,

“Language is extremely important to the lesbian, gay, bi and trans community, and the way we use it can help ensure all people feel included.

“We welcome gender neutral announcements to be rolled out across TfL, as it will ensure that everyone – no matter who they identify as – feels accounted for.”

Speaking at the Mayor’s Question Time last month, Sadiq explained,

“Transport for London serves a vibrant, diverse and multicultural city, and provision of an inclusive transport service is at the heart of TfL’s purpose,” he said.

“I am aware however, that some customers may not relate to or feel comfortable with the way that certain station announcements are made.

“I am keen that TfL addresses these concerns by speaking in a more neutral way when referring to gender.”

  • The bulge in Jamie Dornan’s trousers is totally distracting

A social media post by Northern Ireland’s tourist board has got people’s interest piqued – but for all the wrong reasons.

    Jamie Dornan bulge

It’s hard to imagine that they didn’t know what they were doing, but whoever runs the Discover Northern Ireland twitter feed is pure genius.

The idea was to entice people to visit the rolling green lands and pristine beaches of Northern Ireland – instead, the focus has become Jamie’s rather bulgetastic trouser front.

Needless to say, the tweet, which was sent last week as gotten fans of the actor hot under the collar and question what on earth it is in his trousers. We’ll leave you to spectulate.Anyway, we’re certainly enjoying the view.

Anyway, we’re certainly enjoying the view.
