  • Bachmann: Gays Working Towards Multiple Marriages And Child Molestation

During a radio interview, US Republican representative, Michelle Bachmann said that gay people were pushing for multiple marriages and to repeal age of consent laws.

In the interview, Michele Bachmann, who is infamous for her anti-gay views said that gay people not only wanted to be celebrated but to ultimately change laws to allow for multiple marriage and the repeal of age of consent laws, so that adults could have sex with children.

She argues that the gay community’s ultimate goal was too ‘not allow for diversity of opinion on this issue, because they don’t wanna be celebrated, they want to force everyone, to not only to agree with them but to also to have to finance their agenda.’

Continuing she said that the gay community was working to, ‘abolish age of consent laws, which means we will do away with statutory rape laws so that adults will be able to freely prey on little children sexually. That’s the deviance that we’re seeing embraced in our culture today.’

Earlier this week Bachmann said there was a ‘chance’ that she would run for Presidency again in 2016 after a failed attempt in 2012.

  • Politician Congrats Institute Backing Anti-Gay Marriage Bakers

Jim Wells, a Northern Irish Assembley member has congratulated the Christian Institute (CI) for backing the bakery which refused a ‘gay marriage’ cake order.

Jim Wells, 57, has taken to Twitter to congratulate the strongly gay apposed Institute by saying,

‘Well done to the Christian Institute for their strong backing of the family firm who refused to make a pro gay marriage cake.’

The Ashers Bakers Co. a Christian run bakers in Northern Ireland, refused an order to make a pro ‘gay marriage’ cake because it went against the owner’s beliefs. The bakery is now facing legal action from the Equalities Commission.

In response to the news that the Equalities Commission were seeking to undertake legal action, the minister tweeted,

‘Why is the Equality Commission wasting a large amount of tax payers’ money pursuing Ashers Bakery because it stands for taditional [sic] marriage?

On its website the Christian Institute, which is described as a British evangelical Christian pressure group, has said, ‘The Christian Institute is backing this case which proves the need for the law to reasonably accommodate family-run businesses with firmly held beliefs.’ and is asking members of the public to donate to help support the Ashers Baking Company and ‘others like them.’

The CI is a registered charity that has sought to retain section 28, to raise the age of consent for gay people and opposed the Civil Partnership Act and same-sex marriage act.

The CI has backed many legal actions in the past, but has been unsuccessful in many attempts, most notably the CI backed Hotel owners Mr and Mrs Ball, who infamously denied lodgings to a gay couple. Numerous attempts of appeal have all subsequently failed.

Wells has been in office since June 1998 and also believes that abortion in Northern Ireland should remain illegal, except in medical emergencies. According to Wikipedia Wells is an environmentalist and a young earth creationist, who believes the earth to be 6,000 years old.

He is currently the Deputy Chair of the Committee for Health, Social Services and Public Safety and a member of the Committee for Justice for the Democratic Unionist Party.

  • Sex abuse lawsuit against Bryan Singer, dismissed

Earlier this year the X Men Director and producer was accused of sexually abusing Michael Egan.

The second case was brought against the director by a British man, who accused Singer of forcing sexual acts upon him at the age of 17 – despite the age of consent in the UK being 16-years-old.

However the charges brought by the unnamed man had been withdrawn and yesterday were ‘dismissed with prejudice’ by the court.

Bryan Singer’s legal rep, Marty Singer, said, ‘We are pleased the case was dismissed.’

In April the director pulled out of all X Men media events.

Bryan Singer is still the subject on an ongoing suit with Egan. Bryan Singer has called the ‘absurd.’

Egan is looking for more than $75,000 in damages for each of the charges – which are listed as battery, assault, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

  • Obituary: Dora Bryan

The death of veteran actress Dora Bryan has been announced this week at the grand old age of 91 years old.

This star of stage, screen and radio specialised in playing scatter-brained blondes and even though they were often small parts, she always managed to steal the scene.

Her long and varied career saw her working alongside some of the greats in British entertainment. She was on Hancock’s Half Hour on radio, co-starred in British classic movies such as The Great St Trinians Train Robbery, and Carry On Sergeant appeared in numerous TV shows including The Last of The Summer Wine and Victoria Wood’s Dinner Ladies and she starred in the West End in shows like ‘Hello Dolly’ and ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’.

There was a serious side to her acting too and in 1962 she won a BAFTA Best Actress Award for her role in Tony Richardson’s gritty film A Taste Of Honey.

To gay men, she was the complete epitome of camp and managed to be as outrageous as she could in all the great comic roles that came her way. None so more when towards the end of her career she played go to June Whitfield’s best friend in the Jennifer Saunders Absolutely Fabulous a role, which earned her another BAFTA Best Actress Nomination.

This tiny woman was in her way, a legend, an Icon and a true star in the old-fashioned sense of the word. The world will be a sadder place now that she has gone.

  • The Big Commonwealth Gay Kiss – Barrowman Puckers Up

Amidst the Tartan and Scotties, Scotland had a surprise up her sleeve for the millions of viewers around the globe, who tuned in to watch the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony.

Actor and singer John Barrowman grabbed a guy and gave a full on lip smacker during his stint in the opening ceremony. It is thought the kiss was done as a political statement. 40 of the 53 countries of the Commonwealth criminalise homosexuality.

Watch the moment John Barrowman kisses a guy in the crowd below.

The kiss mirrors a number of other same-sex kisses that have happened during a live TV broadcast. In 2012, the Eurovision showed two same-sex kisses and during the London Olympics opening ceremony, the first lesbian kiss ever on British television was replayed.

Barrowman met his husband Scott Gill in 1993 and entered into a civil partnership in December 2006. In 2013 the pair married in the state of California after the United States Supreme Court overturned Prop 8.

Speaker John Bercow MP said in a statement earlier this week that the Commonwealth ‘must to do more’ for the LGBT community. He said, ‘Sadly, there might be world-class athletes who will not be able to compete in the Games, as they will have been discriminated against on the basis of their sexuality; shamefully, it is estimated that 4 out of every 5 countries in the Commonwealth criminalise homosexuality. Surely, it is time for the Commonwealth to do more to support lesbian, gay, transsexual and bisexual people, to ensure they are not discriminated against, no matter where they live?’

  • Heavy Metal Mag Terrorizer – Heavy Metal Is Gay

In its 251st issue out this week, leading British extreme music magazine Terrorizer explains why the heavy metal community needs to clean up its act and banish homophobia from heavy metal.

Following the recent candid interview with the iconic openly gay frontman of Judas Priest, Rob Halford, which discussed the recent decision by Cynic’s Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert to jointly make a statement confirming both band members to be gay, in August’s issue of Terrorizer Magazine our news section leads with a challenge to the heavy metal community to eliminate the deep rooted problem of homophobia, directed particularly at gay men, that exists within heavy metal.

Terrorizer Editor Tom Dare writes ‘Heavy metal is totally gay. It’s a predominantly male audience watching predominantly male bands act as butch and masculine as possible. It’s leather, denim, tight trousers. It’s all phallic metaphors, homoerotic imagery and sweaty men (frequently topless) grappling each other in a dark room.’

Challenging stereotypes. Tom continues. ‘There seems to be this odd perception amongst metallers of gays as mincing queens effeminately cocking a limp wrist. And while gay men like that certainly exist, it is far from the majority… gay men are still men. They like football, gaming and action films as much as anyone else with a Y chromosome. The stereotypes portraying gay men as soft, sensitive, delicate flowers who only want to talk about fashion and feelings are as wide of the mark as the stereotype of metalheads as stupid, drunken, unwashed, uneducated Satan worshippers who are more likely to go on a killing spree than hold down a job and function in normal society.’

That said, homophobia in metal causes real damage, and it is this to which Terrorizer is bringing attention ‘some of the homophobia is simply an extension of the homophobia in society. It is undoubtedly true that a section of society thinks it’s OK, or even funny, to use “gay” or related terms and epithets as negatives, as terms of abuse, and that this spills over into metal. But metal also has some aspects of its homophobic tendencies that are purely our own problems.’

‘Whatever the root cause, none of these are acceptable as excuses. Homophobia is horrible in all its forms. It hurts people. “Gay” as a synonym for “bad” tells LGBT people that they are different, that they are bad, that they are somehow inferior to straight people.

‘It leads people to deny their identity, to battle with their own psyche, and is a significant part of why depression and suicide amongst LGBT people is still such a problem. It is why Rob Halford was in the closet for 25 years, why the Cynic guys only publicly spoke about their sexuality this year, and why there are so few openly gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender musicians in high profile metal bands.’

There is scant representation of LGBT individuals in heavy metal, ‘statistically, if we accept the percentage of the male population who are gay as around the seven per cent it is reported as, and if we take the average number of male musicians per band as four (it’s not, it’s higher, but we’ll stick with four for simplicity’s sake), then the Bloodstock main stage should feature eight gay musicians (to the nearest whole number), or two entire bands. In fact, there is a flat zero of publicly out men performing. That’s none. Zip. Nada’

‘We, the metalhead community, have been throughout our history, even to this day, f**king rubbish at challenging it, about sorting out our own house, at saying “you like metal? You’re in. Who you fancy doesn’t matter.

    ‘We need to fix this.

‘And because metal’s so f**king gay, we’ll look bloody stupid if we don’t.’

Terrorizer 251 is onsale from Thursday 24 July and is available from WHSmiths and www.Terrorizer.com.

  • Commonwealth gay kiss: “They should be burned alive”

In case you’ve been asleep for the last day or so, the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony took place last night. In amongst the usual song and dance of such an affair, something relatively insignificant happened: a person kissed someone.

This would usually go without comment, except for the fact it was two men; one of them being John Barrowman. I’m no massive fan of Barrowman’s attention-seeking antics, but even he does not deserve this delightful tweet from Twitter user @Looney_Ent: “This is disgusting, they should be burned alive. Commonwealth Games ceremony gay kiss #nohomo #nohomo #nohomo”

The Twitter community dove into action, reporting the offending tweet to Twitter and the Metropolitan Police. In the face of such backlash, and following warnings from the ever-delightful @FleetStreetFox, the homophobic tweet has been removed and replaced with a barbed apology.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t reach John Barrowman for comment.

  • Listen as a gay man talks about “shock” cure given by 1970’s NHS

A gay man who was given electric shock treatments on the NHS in the 1970s has spoken to BBC Radio 5.

In the 1970s the National Health Service (NHS) offered a ‘cure’ to homosexuality in the guise of ‘Electric Shock Avoidance Therapy’.

‘John’ from Birmingham talks openly to Victoria Derbyshire about the ‘false hope’ the treatment gave him. The 69-year-old said the treatment had made him feel that he was, ‘going to pass from this life without ever having a full relationship with a human being.’

Homosexuality was decriminalised in England and Wales in 1967, 1981 in Scotland and 1982 in Northern Ireland.

In 1973 homosexuality was declassified as a mental illness in the UK.

  • European airlines suspend flights to Israel

More airlines have joined the suspension of flights in and out Israel as fear of missile launches rise.

A number of US carriers have already suspended their flights to Israel, but now some European airlines have followed suit after a warning from the European Aviation Safety Agency EASA, said it “strongly recommends” that airlines should avoid flights to and from Tel Aviv.

Air Canada, Air France, Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, easyJet, Germanwings, KLM, Lufthansa and Swiss have all cancelled flights to Israel for two days.

British Airways has said that is, ‘closely monitoring the situation’. Their flights are currently operating as scheduled.

Concern has mounted about the safety of aircraft flying over war zones since the downing of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17, which killed all 298 people on board. On Tuesday Delta Airlines diverted a flight with 273 passengers and seventeen crew members, after reports of a ‘rocket or associated debris near the airport in Tel Aviv.’

Amongst the victims of flight MH17, it is reported that there were at least 6, but up to 100 HIV/AIDS experts who were on their way to the 20th International AIDS conference in Melbourne, Australia.

A candlelight vigil was held for the victims of MH17 and HIV/AIDS in Melbourne in Federation Square on the 22nd July 2014.

The Foreign Office in the UK has issued a strong warning saying, ‘The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to Gaza. The British Information and Services Office in Gaza is closed until further notice. The FCO can no longer offer any consular assistance in Gaza. Rocket attacks from Gaza into Israel and Israeli air strikes on Gaza continue.’
