  • All Set For The Inaugural Icon Awards In Scotland As Conchita Flies In

The Scottish LGBTI community is set for the inaugural Icon Awards, set to hit Glasgow this October 9th. The awards aim to reward and celebrate the LGBTI community of Scotland with what’s being penned as the night of the year in the Scottish LGBTI calendar.

Scotland is leading the way in the race for equality and inclusion, with the passing of the gay marriage bill, and the recent accolade of being the most progressive country in Europe, but there is still a “long way to go” says event manager and organiser Michael Macfarlane.
    He added,

“The Icon Awards will be an inclusive event, inviting people from all over Scotland to come together and celebrate diversity. The awards will go to individuals, businesses and organisations that are going the extra mile, and are working towards equality for all.”

Eighteen categories span the full spectrum of the LGBTI community and their achievements.

Music legend Horse MacDonald also commented saying; “It is so important for the LGBTI community to identify with and have role models, when I was growing up there were so few people to look up to and aspire to. It’s the role models of today’s society who are challenged with helping people accept who they are, and in turn help the endless battle towards full equality for the LGBTI community across Scotland and the world” Horse added,

“A ceremony like this is long overdue in Scotland, and will help create new role models, and highlight areas that still have a long way to go like sport, as well as creating an inclusive event for all to come and enjoy”.

One Scottish sporting star who believes in the cause is former Glasgow 2014 team Scotland swimmer, and British LGBT sporting personality of the year finalist Martin Cremin.

Born in Dunblane, Martin was at the forefront of Scottish sport, now living in London he is still a firm supporter of the LGBTI sporting scene.

Conchita Wurst and Michelle Visage will be in attendance for the very first awards.

  • MICHELLE VISAGE: Perez Cut Me With Representation Comment

Following her confrontation with Perez Hilton yesterday Michelle Visage has spoken about how Perez Hilton ‘wounded’ her.

Speaking to to Big Brother in the diary room, Michelle Visage tells Big Brother that Perez “said something to me last night to hurt me personally, to cut me…he was just trying to be mean and he wouldn’t own it. That was a mean thing to say to me because, and I’ll explain, he had nothing to gain from saying that. The only thing he could gain from that was wounding me. Of course, I’m not going to allow it to…” She goes on to talk about the work she does and maintains that she is part of the community adding, “Don’t fuc*ing tell me I’m not because I’m not a gay woman! That’s bullsh*t. He meant to hurt me. That’s really what it comes down to. That’s not a good person.”

Yesterday In a heated exchange between Perez and the entire house, he slams Michelle telling her that she does not represent him.

During Big Brother’s Bit On Side, journalist and Buzzfeed LGBT editor Patrick Strudwick said that Perez was a stain on the gay community after drawing a parallel between his ostracisation from the group and being “diagnosed with AIDS in the early 80s”

  • PEREZ Tells Michelle Visage – You Do Not Represent Me

In a heated exchange between Perez and the entire house, he slams Michelle telling her that she does not represent him.

In an argument between Perez and Callum where he tells Calum “I said you were a good person, but that doesn’t mean I have to like you…I don’t care about you”, RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle observes “’I don’t like you’ are not nice words to say to people.” Perez responds, that he doesn’t need friends in the House and admits that “in my universe” it’s all about him.

He went on to slam Michelle’s supportive stance of the LGBT community saying, “As a member of the LGBT community, you do not represent me”.

Michelle maintains that she would not want to represent him but will always be supportive of the LGBT community.

Michelle Visage, who is a strong supporter of the LGBT community had said that Perez was setting back the gay community fifty years because of his behaviour in the house.

Last night during Big Brother’s Bit On Side, journalist and Buzzfeed LGBT editor Patrick Strudwick said that Perez was a stain on the gay community after drawing a parallel between his ostracisation from the group and being “diagnosed with AIDS in the early 80s”

  • Perez likens Katie Hopkin’s isolation tactic like AIDS epidemic of the 80s

Perez upsets Michelle Visage after he likens the isolation he’s felt by Katie Hopkins to AIDS in the 80s.

Another day another argument between Katie Hopkins and Perez Hilton, but after likening the isolation he’s experienced by Katie’s anti-Perez campaign, Perez stated his outrageous claim that he feels like he’s been “diagnosed with AIDS in the early 80s and she was trying to get everybody to be afraid of me and ostracise me”.

This angers RuPaul Drag Race judge Michelle Visage who shouts, “Having lost 20 plus friends to AIDS, that is a bit extreme!”

The AIDS crisis ravaged the gay community in the US and across the world killing thousands of people during the 80s and 90s. Across the world, AIDS has been attributed to over 39 million HIV-related deaths.

Perez continues to talk about how he has been “traumatised” by the Big Brother experience.

Earlier in the series Perez offended many viewers by saying that the removal of actor Ken Morley was like being free from cancer.

Celebrity Big Brother tonight from 8pm on Channel 5 and one more Housemate will be evicted.

  • Katie Hopkins And Michelle Visage Becoming Bossom Buddies

Katie Hopkins and Michelle Visage seem to be getting on very well, as Visage says she was instantly drawn to the former Apprentice star.

Katie Hopkins has never been shy about wanting to be a gay icon and well, she’s appears to be learning from one of the best in the form of Michelle Visage.

Talking to Big Brother, Michelle says, she is surprised who she has connected with in the house and says that Katie Hopkins is the biggest surprise. She says that they ‘were instantly drawn to each other’ and that they have the same sense of humour and that they are ‘so similar in so many ways’.

The pair have also bonded over their dislike for Perez Hilton, who Visage has called out numerous times for setting back the gay community fifty years. During yesterday’s debate task Perez called Katie Hopkins homophobic, which caused Katie to explode, screaming “don’t ever call me homophobic, that’s the one thing I’m not..” and Michelle criticised Perez for his use of the word.

  • Vile Homophobia Directed At Perez Shows What Visage Was Talking About

Dozens of people have taken to Twitter to talk about Perez with vile homophobic comments.

During yesterday evening’s programme, Michelle Visage blasted openly gay celebrity blogger Perez Hilton for setting back the community fifty years, after witnessing him perform sexual acts on garden furniture and against mirrors in the garden. Speaking to Big Brother she said, “What we just witnessed is an outrage” and that Perez “sets our community back fifty years”, before the RuPaul’s Drag Race judge added, “He’s an embarrassment, I do not want people judging the gay community on this ass.”

She then went on to explain, emotionally, that she had fought for years along with the gay community for equality and equal rights and that Perez was undermining the progress the LGBT community had made.

Regardless of Perez’s behaviour, a quick search on Twitter confirmed the harassment that many gay people can endure, when fans of the show called him anti-gay slurs like faggot, queer and batty boy. Some users have even used death threats against the US personality.

Last year the government introduced a new punishment for those who trolled or bullied people online. Those found gulity could face up to two years in prison. The government is changing the law to increase the maximum sentence for the offence of sending certain items with the intent to cause distress or anxiety. This will mean more serious offences can be dealt with in the Crown Court and there will not be a time limit for police and Crown Prosecution Service to bring a prosecution.

In the past various openly gay celebrities have endured online bigotry. Last year Duncan James talked about how online trolls had wished AIDS on him, whilst X Factor’s Rylan Clark suffered an internet blacklash in 2012.

So do we report online homophobia to the police?

  • Michelle Visage: Perez Is Setting Our Community Back Fifty Years

Michelle Visage has broken her silence on Perez saying that he has set the gay community back fifty years with his behaviour.

Drag Race Judge, Michelle Visage, has hit out at Perez in a diary room moment, saying that his behaviour is outrageous and that he is setting the LGBT community back 50 years.

During tonight’s episode, Michelle gets emotional and confides with Big Brother that, “What we just witnessed is an outrage” and that Perez “sets our community back fifty years”. Perez is seen in the garden jumping around topless and making sexual noises whilst dry humping the garden furniture, saying, “Oh my God, I just came three times”

She goes on to say, “He’s an embarrassment, I do not want people judging the gay community on this ass.”

In an earlier conversation, she admits that they were never friends in the outside world and he “feigns compassion and love”.

Earlier in the series, Michelle confronted Perez after he failed to reply to her messages and emails. Michelle said that she was big supporter of Perez until he took a “dark turn” and got big headed. It was around that time that Hilton stopped answering her emails. Perez responded saying that he was a “work in progress”.

Michelle is up for eviction tonight after Perez chose her to face the public vote, after calling her one of the “mean girls”.
