  • Artist Recreates Tom Daley Portrait Out Of Homophobic Tweets

An artist has recreated a portrait of Tom Daley out of homophobic tweets the diver received after he came out in December last year.

Last December Tom Daley came out via a YouTube video which went viral within minutes of him posting it online, and although the diver mainly received support and praise from the online community, a number of Twitter Trolls did take to the social network to tweet homophobic comments.

These comments have now been made into a portrait of the Olympic diver, by Conor Collins who has created this stunning picture of Tom.

Taking to Twitter, the artist has said:

‘Still utterly overwhelmed by the reaction to my painting of Tom Daley. Thank you all who thought it good enough to share it!

‘Been told there are articles saying ive sold my Tom Daley piece! I’ve not!! Its not my intention to make money from this piece!’

Even Stephen Fry is a fan, tweeting about the painting.

Meanwhile Tom Daley’s new show for ITV2 Tom Daley Goes Global is doing good trade for the channel. The next episode is on the 24th and see Tom and Sophie jetting off to New Zealand.

The spokesperson continued: ‘While we acknowledge that staff may have been over-zealous in asking the couple to leave, we do not believe that the decision had anything to do with their sexuality.

‘Staff acted in response to complaints from customers about inappropriate behaviour, however they have since apologised, in person, to the couple, and offered them vouchers as a form of apology, so we hope to welcome them into the store again soon.’

Stephen Pope who originally made the complaint said that the police were now involved.

  • Read the full transcript of Evander Holyfield’s homophobic conversation

Evander Holyfield was given a dressing down by the producers of Big Brother after a homophobic rant, which he said that he believed that homosexuality was wrong.

Luisa: Is there any gay boxers?

Evander: Yeah, I’m sure there is.

    Luisa: Is it public knowledge?

Evander: Ain’t no-one came out and said they were.

Luisa: I think it’s really bad that no-one stands up and says it in the sporting industries. I think it’s good to be open about that because it’s normal.

Evander: What would be good about it? That ain’t normal.

Luisa: We shouldn’t have this conversation. No, let’s not have this conversation, it won’t be good.

Evander: The bible let’s you know, that’s wrong, that’s right.

Luisa: That’s just the way some people are.

Evander: No, it don’t make no difference. If you were born and your leg were turned this way, what do you do, you go to the doctor and get it fixed back right.

Luisa: It’s not about being fixed, it’s about… that’s just the way that you are.

Evander: No no no no no, you mean to tell me…

Luisa: I really don’t want to have this conversation.

    Evander: I’m not mad, I’m just saying…

Luisa: You don’t understand, I don’t think it’s an appropriate conversation to have in this house, honestly.

Evander: All I’m trying to tell you, you know how handicapped people are born, you can’t say because they were born that way…

Luisa: You can’t compare, of course you can’t compare someone that’s gay to someone that’s handicapped, it’s not a choice.

Evander: Yes it is a choice, come on, that ain’t the way nobody is made.

Luisa: I’m tired. I don’t think people have a choice in their sexuality, or they would be unhappy.

  • Petition Goes Live Calling For The Sacking Of Ivan Okhlobystin After Homophobic Rant

A Russian actor who stars in the Russian version of Scrubs and The Snow Queen called for “faggots” to be stripped of their human rights and burnt alive.

A Petition has gone live calling for the sacking of Russian actor Ivan Okhlobysti after he said that he would strip all LGBT people of their human rights and burn them in an oven.

‘I’d put them all alive in the oven…it’s a living danger to my children,’ Okhlobystin said, according to RIA Novosti.

Okhlobystin voices the main character in the movie The Snow Queen, due for a US DVD release on January 28, 2014. Vertical Entertainment is the US DVD distributor of the film.

In an open letter to Wizart Animation, the makers of The Snow Queen, Derek William creator of the petition said:
‘Such inflammatory rhetoric should alarm anyone with a conscience and awareness of recent history, because it is redolent of the rise of the Far Right in Nazi Germany that led to the Holocaust, in which 6 million Jews perished, alongside another 6 million of other minorities, including homosexuals.

‘Okhlobystin’s call to massacre homosexuals by a genocide of immolation has absolutely no place in the free world, and he is not a fit and proper person to be involved with the public face of children’s entertainment.

‘I call upon you to dissociate yourselves and your company publicly and in no uncertain terms from this outrageous rhetoric, and to end your dealings with Mr Okhlobystin forthwith, stating this as the reason.’

  • Union J’s Jaymi Hensley Will Challenge Twitter Homophobia

Speaking in today’s Metro Union J boyband member Jaymi Hensley said he actively challenges homophobic language on social media.

He may only be 23, but Union J boyband member certainly knows where he stands on dealing with homophobia in a move that puts many other gay celebrities to shame.

    Speaking to Metro, he said:

‘If someone calls me a derogatory name on Twitter, I challenge it. If I let people call me a ‘fag’, how am I helping fans feel empowered?

‘When I was younger, I used to be called ‘poof’ and ‘fag’ and it made me feel awful – it’s not nice to have abusive words used against you.

‘I’m now in a place where you can call me whatever, it doesn’t annoy me but I will stick up for people. Don’t let people give you s*** – that’s what I stand for. Don’t let people bully you.’

We love you a little bit more Mr Hensley.

Last week Jaymi said he and his partner Olly Marmon were planning to marry in 2015.

Last year during the 2012 X Factor Live Shows THEGAYUK asked Twitter to comment on the homophobia that Rylan Clark was receiving, and asked what they were doing about the on-going anti-gay slurs that happening.

A Spokesperson for Twitter said: ‘We can’t comment on individual accounts, however we have a clear policy on our site and a process for users who want to report abuse.’
