  • Bestselling “Queen Of Bonkbuster” Author Rebecca Chance dies, 59

Best-selling Bonkbuster author, Rebecca Chance, has passed away at the age of 59, according to statements on Instagram. Chance was interviewed for THEGAYUK numerous times during her writing career and was a staunch gay-rights ally. She was crowned “Queen of the bonkbuster, by then TGUK editor and chief Jake Hook.

Her books include thrillers, bonkbusters, chick lit, mysteries, Tart Noir, romantic comedies, and young adult. Between 1996 and 2011, Henderson published 17 books under her own name. She began writing as Rebecca Chance in 2009.

Author Matt Cain wrote on Instagram, “RIP Lauren Milne Henderson AKA Rebecca Chance. We met in 2014 when we were both published by the same editor at Pan Macmillan and quickly became party and publicity partners. She was outrageous, sparky and filthy – and could also be shockingly and delightfully bitchy. But we also lived around the corner from each other so some of my favourite moments were our walks on Hampstead Heath, when she showed her gentler, more vulnerable side.”

    Wit, Style and gorgeous shoes

Rebecca Chance, the bestselling novelist and journalist whose glamorous, high-octane fiction captivated readers around the world, died on 11 March 2026 at the age of 59. Known off the page as Lauren Henderson, she leaves behind a rich literary legacy defined by wit, style, and a keen eye for the complexities of modern womanhood.

Born on 30 September 1966 in Hampstead, London, Henderson was educated at North London Collegiate School and later studied English Literature at Cambridge University. She began her career as a journalist, writing for publications including The ObserverThe Guardian, and Cosmopolitan, where her sharp voice and cultural insight quickly distinguished her.

Henderson first made her mark as a novelist under her own name, publishing 17 books between 1996 and 2011 across genres including crime, romantic comedy, and young adult fiction. She was also a pioneering force in the “Tart Noir” movement—a subgenre blending crime fiction with feminist sensibility—and is widely regarded as its “godmother.”

In 2009, she reinvented herself under the pen name Rebecca Chance, launching a series of glamorous thrillers often described as “bonkbusters.” Titles such as DivasBad Sisters, and Killer Heels became international bestsellers, with several appearing on The Sunday Times bestseller list. Her novels, translated into more than 20 languages, transported readers into worlds of wealth, ambition, and intrigue, often exploring the darker undercurrents beneath polished surfaces.

Her life beyond writing was as cosmopolitan as her fiction. Henderson spent time living in Tuscany and later in New York, experiences that informed both her journalism and her novels. Her 2005 non-fiction work, Jane Austen’s Guide to Dating, reflected her ability to blend literary insight with contemporary culture.

Throughout her career, she remained a vibrant presence in literary circles, contributing essays, editing anthologies, and appearing at festivals across the UK, US, and Australia. She was admired not only for her storytelling but also for her advocacy of women’s voices in crime fiction.

Rebecca Chance’s work endures as a celebration of bold, flawed, and fascinating women navigating power, desire, and identity. She is remembered as a trailblazer who brought glamour and grit together in equal measure, leaving an indelible mark on popular fiction.

The cause of her death has not been established.

Sinéad O’Connor gained worldwide fame for her iconic single “Nothing Compares 2 U,” released in 1990, which topped the charts in numerous countries. Her extraordinary talent in music was unparalleled, earning her admiration and love from fans all over the globe. Taoiseach (Irish PM) Leo Varadkar paid tribute to her, acknowledging the universal appeal of her music and recognizing her unparalleled artistic abilities.

Throughout her career, Sinéad O’Connor was known for her candid and vocal stance on social and political issues. She released a total of 10 studio albums, leaving a significant impact on the music industry and society as a whole. Her legacy as a singer and activist will be remembered and cherished by many.

Sinéad O’Connor’s musical journey began with the release of her debut album, “The Lion and the Cobra,” in 1987. This album achieved notable success, entering the top 40 charts both in the UK and the US, setting the stage for her rising career.

Her subsequent album, “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got,” proved to be a pivotal moment in her career. Released as her second studio album, it featured the unforgettable track “Nothing Compares 2 U.” The song struck a chord with audiences worldwide and quickly climbed to the number one spot on the charts. The album’s massive success solidified Sinéad O’Connor’s status as an internationally acclaimed artist and marked a defining moment in her musical legacy.

Last year, the Dublin singer experienced a devastating loss when her 17-year-old son Shane passed away, just days after being reported missing. The incident led to severe consequences, with broadcaster NBC banning her for life and sparking protests against her in the United States. Despite the backlash, she remained unapologetic, declaring in a 2021 interview with the New York Times that she had no regrets about her actions and found the act to be brilliant in its expression of her beliefs.

Many years ago, Sinead actually identified as part of the LGBT+ community when she came out and then went back in again. She said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that she was three-quarters heterosexual.

Brian’s followers and colleagues quickly offered condolences, with Charlene White from Loose Women and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! sending their love to him and his family. The news has been met with sadness from many who knew Brian and Petter, and they will undoubtedly be missed by those close to them.

Not much is known about Petter’s life, but he met Brian in a bar while they were both on holiday in Ibiza. The couple got married in Norway in 2009, just over a week after same-sex marriage was legalised in the country. Their wedding was one of the first high-profile same-sex weddings in Norway.

Reflecting on how they met, Brian once said that he was “minding his own business” when he met Petter, and they spent just 24 hours together before parting ways.

Despite this, they clearly formed a strong bond and were devoted to each other until Petter’s sudden passing.

In addition to their chance meeting in Ibiza, Brian once revealed that a “divine intervention” brought him and Petter together again. When Madonna was playing at Wembley Arena, Petter happened to be in town to see her live. Brian, who lived nearby, offered Petter a place to stay to save on hotel costs. Brian described this as a “gamble,” but it clearly paid off as they went on to build a life together and create many happy memories before Petter’s untimely death.

When Brian and Petter first met, they were leading very different lives. Brian was working long hours as the Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police at New Scotland Yard, while Petter was working as an engineer in Oslo. Despite the challenges of a long-distance relationship, they were clearly devoted to each other and managed to make it work.

While they went on to build a life together and get married, Brian and Petter often kept their relationship out of the media spotlight. They preferred to focus on their love for each other and enjoy their time together away from the glare of public attention.
