  • Brunei to start stoning to death as punishment for homosexuality from today

Brunei to start stoning to death as punishment for homosexuality from today

The Kingdom of Brunei’s anti-gay punishment will come into effect today, meaning anyone found guilty of engaging a raft of behaviours including homosexuality will be stoned to death.

Brunei‘s stoning death penalty is to be implemented today despite a massive international backlash. The adoption of sharia-based laws means that anyone found guilty of engaging in gay sex will be stoned to death. The law also means that anyone found guilty of committing adultery or trying to denounce Islam or insulting the Prophet Muhammad will also be dealt with the death penalty.

Those found guilty of theft will have their hands amputated.

Not all laws or punishments will affect non-Muslims in the region.

Homosexuality is already illegal in Brunei and is one of 35 of 53 nations of the Commonwealth in which homosexuality is illegal. It is the second of those nations to make the “crime” punishable by death.

What has the UK said it will do?

In 2018 the UK’s government launched an LGBT+ action plan, in which it said it wanted to deal with issues faced by the LGBT community across the Commonwealth. Part of the plan specifically mentioned the Commonwealth. The government has offered support to Commonwealth countries wishing to reform discriminatory legislation. There is a £5.6 million programme, to be delivered through civil society organisations and will advance the legal equality and rights of all Commonwealth citizens, regardless of gender, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity. However, critics say that £5.6 million is a minuscule amount of money to split between the nations that could consider decriminalising homosexuality.

The government also stated it would, “work through UK embassies, high commissions and through international organisations, including the United Nations, European institution and the Commonwealth, to protect and promote LGBT rights and to address laws discriminating against LGBT people”.

Theresa May: anti-gay laws are “were wrong then, and they are wrong now”.

In April 2018, the UK’s Prime Minister, Theresa May said that anti-gay laws in the Commonwealth “were wrong then, and they are wrong now”.

In a speech to the biennial Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), Ms May said, “I am all too aware that these laws were often put in place by my own country. They were wrong then, and they are wrong now

“As the UK’s prime minister, I deeply regret both the fact that such laws were introduced, and the legacy of discrimination, violence and even death that persists today,” she added.

  • Sam Smith strips to his underwear and becomes a “bond girl”

Sam Smith strips to his underwear and becomes a “bond girl”

In his most revealing pictures yet, singer Sam Smith strips off to his tiny undies and does the “bloat dance”.

Bloat? What bloat? We can’t see bloat!

Sam Smith has stripped down to his undies, showcasing his very slimmed down frame and continuing on his journey to loving his body image. He encouraged his fans to join in him in doing “the bloat dance”, despite the fact that Sam, looks incredibly slim.

In a series of pictures and videos the “Stay With Me” singer, stripped to nothing but his tiny whities and danced almost nude in front of the mirror, in his most revealing pictures yet, including a rather sexy “bond girl” dance, which ended up with one selfie with the words “bond girl” emblazoned on the photo.

Blond Girl Moves: Sam Smith jokes that he looked like a bond girl with a sexy dance in his hallway.

In one post he published a selfie of himself, sitting in his bathroom, topless, and wrote, “Feeling bloated and gross after my flight so thought I’d post a mirror selfie of my sexy bloated boobies coz we are friends. Finally”

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BvuiHeeAmqS/

Taking time out after a flight the 26-year-old singer was clearly on a selfie roll as he posted numerous videos and pictures of him without clothes on.

Sam encouraged his followers to do the bloat dance with him, before busting some moves including a very provocative twerk!
Looking Great: Sam Smith appeared with nothing but a towel with his newly slimmed down frame.

In February Sam wrote an emotional note about his body acceptance when he uploaded his first ever topless picture saying, that he was “fighting the f**k back” and “reclaiming” his body.

He wrote, “Yesterday I decided to fight the fuck back. Reclaim my body and stop trying to change this chest and these hips and these curves that my mum and dad made and love so unconditionally”.

  • People are calling on the Commonwealth to intervene on Brunei’s gay sex death penalty

People are calling on the Commonwealth to intervene on Brunei’s gay sex death penalty

As Brunei confirms it is to start using the death penalty for those found guilty of gay sex, people are calling on the Commonwealth to intervene.

Brunei has confirmed that it is to use the death penalty for those found engaging in same-sex relationships and adultery from early April 2019. The kingdom has stated that it will use stoning to death as punishment for those found breaking sharia law.

Brunei is currently part of the Commonwealth and people are asking it to intervene or make a statement condemning the horrific move by Brunei’s government.

However, the head of the Commonwealth is her Majesty, the Queen, who has to remain politically neutral, so having her speak out against Brunei’s inhumane policy might be a non-starter.

As it stands homosexuality is actually illegal in 35 of the 53 nations that make up the Commonwealth. There are two nations which currently have the death penalty for same-sex relationships between men. Northern Nigeria and Brunei. There are some countries which have a maximum of life in prison, these include, Bangladesh, Barbados, Guyana, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Uganda.

A petition has been launched calling on Paul Scully MP, UK trade envoy to Brunei and Richard Graham MP, UK trade envoy to ASEAN (of which Brunei is a member) to publicly condemn these barbaric laws to make a stand against the barbaric punishment.

Brunei introduces stoning to death for being gay

Brunei is to introduce stoning to death as a punishment for homosexual acts and adultery from April.

    1966666 / Pixabay

Homosexuality and adultery could land you a death sentence, via stoning, in Brunei, if you’re found guilty from April. Homosexuality has been illegal in the kingdom since British colonial rule.

Instead of lengthy jail sentences for those found guilty of a raft of crimes, including homosexuality and adultery, Brunei will be handing out a death sentence. The new punishment of death by stoning, is set to become policy from the 3rd of April.

The nation is set to introduce the horrific punishment as part of the implementation of sharia law and will apply to sodomy, adultery and rape. The law will only apply to the kingdom’s Muslim population which makes up around two-thirds of the demographic.

Alcohol is banned in Brunei and there are punishments for having children outside of marriage. There is also a fine for missing pray on a Friday.

Brunei is just one of 13 countries where being gay or being guilty of homosexual acts can still land you a death penalty.

    “Vicious”

Amnesty Internation have called the punishment “vicious” and called upon Brunei to “immediately halt” its plans to introduce stoning.

Rachel Chhoa-Howard, Amnesty International’s Brunei Researcher, said, “Brunei must immediately halt its plans to implement these vicious punishments and revise its Penal Code in compliance with its human rights obligations.

“The international community must urgently condemn Brunei’s move to put these cruel penalties into practice.

“Some of the potential ‘offences’ should not even be deemed crimes at all, including consensual sex between adults of the same gender.”

Sharia law is Islam’s legal system, derived from the Koran –

    • Informs every aspect of Muslims’ lives
    • Islamic jurists issue formal guidance through fatwas or religious edicts
    • Sharia law includes provisions for capital and corporal punishment but modern scholars say getting to that stage can be difficult

  • The Color Purple Actor dropped from show after anti-gay Facebook post surfaces

The Color Purple Actor dropped from show after anti-gay Facebook post surfaces

Seyi Omooba axed from the theatrical tour of the Curve and Birmingham Hippodrome production of The Color Purple after “homophobic” Facebook post surfaces.

Actor Seyi Omooba has been dropped from the production of The Color Purple after a Facebook post from 2014 in which she said that she did “not believe homosexuality is right” went viral on social media.

The Facebook post from 2014 went viral when actor Aaron Lee shared a screenshot on Twitter saying Omooba owed an explanation to the gay community for her words.

In the post, Omooba said that she does not believe people “can be born gay”.

She added, “I do not believe homosexuality is right, though the law of this land has made it legal doesn’t mean its [sic] right.”

Curve and Birmingham Hippodrome said that Omooba “will no longer be involved with the production” after admitting that the post had “caused significant and widely expressed concerns”.

    The statement reads,

“On Friday 15 March a social media post dating from 2014, which was written by the The Color Purple cast member Seyi Omooba, was re-posted on Twitter. The comments made by Seyi in that post have caused significant and widely expressed concerns both on social media and in the wider press.

“Following careful reflection it has been decided that Seyi will no longer be involved with the production. This decision was supported by the Authors and Theatrical Rights Worldwide.

“The audition process, as ever, was conducted professionally and rigorously, led by an exceptional casting director with actors who are evaluated on what they present in the audition room. We do not operate a social media screening process in the casting of actors”.

  • Parkfield School caves into the demands of protesting parents over LGBT+ lessons

Parkfield School caves into the demands of protesting parents over LGBT+ lessons

“Until a resolution can be reached No Outsiders will no longer be taught at Parkfield”

The school at the centre of a row over teaching children about LGBT+ relationships has cancelled its lessons, THEGAYUK has learned. Parents of children at Parkfield Primary School in Birmingham, had been planning another protest outside the school this morning, but have called off the demonstration after the school said it would no longer offer the lessons, which taught primary school-aged children about same-sex relationships and gender expressions.

The parents claim that the lessons infringe on their religious beliefs and that the lessons amounted to indoctrination of their children.  Around 98 percent of the school’s population are Muslim.

A statement on the School’s website stated,

“Nothing is more important than ensuring our children’s education continues uninterrupted.

“Yesterday, both parents and the trust held constructive discussions with the Regional Schools Commissioner, and as a result of these discussions we are eager to continue to work together with parents, over the coming days and weeks to find a solution that will support the children in our school to continue their education in a harmonious environment.

“Until a resolution has been reached, No Outsiders lessons will not be taught at Parkfield and we hope that children will not be removed from school to take part in protests.”

“No evidence” that lessons weren’t age-appropriate

In a report released earlier this week, Ofsted said there was no evidence the curriculum overly focused on LGBT issues and that it is taught in an age-appropriate way. In reality, the lessons focus on race, religion, gender identity, age and disabilities. Despite this, the No Outsiders programme has caused many parents of children at the school to demonstrate and around 600 children were removed from classes by their guardians at the beginning of March 2019.

    Parents “Welcome” the move

In a statement on the Alumrock Community group, parents wrote that they welcomed the move and demanded that a new programme needed to be “negotiated”, writing

We, the representatives of Parkfield Parents Group have had a positive meeting with the Department of Education to discuss serious concerns we have with the ‘No Outsiders’ programme and its implentation at Parkfield School.

We made our position clear, that the No Outsiders programme cannot continue to be taught at Parkfield School and that a new programme needs be negotiated, with which parents are happy and meets the legal requirements of the Equality Act 2010.

The school have agreed that “Until a resolution has been reached , No Outsiders lessons will not be taught at Parkfield”.

In view of this development, we have decided to postpone the protest for Thursday 14th March 2019. We will await further developments early next week when we expect detailed proposals to be tabled. We will then review our actions with respect to protests and schoolwide withdrawal of children.

We have advised and notified parents that the protest scheduled for Thursday 14th March 2019 is not taking place and that we are keeping future protests under review inview of developments.

We welcome these developments and reiterate that the school needs to work with parents in a spirit of partnership and cooperation and not against them in educating their children.

  • Parkfield parents in Birmingham plan to protest LGBT+ equality lessons again

Parkfield parents in Birmingham plan to protest LGBT+ equality lessons again

Parents of children at Parkfield Primary School are planning another protest outside the school over LGBT+ equality lessons.

It’s a sad state of affairs as parents of children who attend the Parkfield Community School in Birmingham are set to demonstrate outside the school on Thursday morning from 8:20 AM till 9:20 AM, despite an Ofsted report that states that the lessons are age appropriate.

Parents from the school who are apparently 98 per cent Muslim have questioned the age appropriateness of the lessons and argue that they had not been consulted with over the lessons, which have been labelled as “toxic”.

Parents of children at the Parkfield Primary School in Birmingham have said that they will protest outside the school grounds every Thursday until the equality lessons, called No Outsiders, dealing with social issues, including LGBT+ relationships are cancelled permanently.  In reality, the lessons focus on race, religion, gender identity, age and disabilities.

The school is due to provide just five of its No Outsiders lessons for its students over the course of the year.

A poster, which is advertising’s the protest outside the school is being shared on Facebook.

At the beginning of March around 600 children were removed by their parents in protest to the planned lessons. The school has said that it will continue with the lessons next term.
