India Willoughby just pointed out something pretty crucial about ITV’s Loose Women

    An oversight?

Journalist India Willoughby just questioned why one of ITV’s flagship daytime programmes, Loose Women has never had any permanent LGBT+ representation on its panel – despite the fact that they have, in the past, talked regularly about LGBT+ issues.

In her now-deleted Tweet, India said, “#LooseWomen has never had a regular panelist who’s LGBT in 30 years. Will this be ever addressed? #2020

    https://twitter.com/IndiaWilloughby/status/1272863024118988803

Then added, “Currently solely for straight, coupled-up, hetero-normative women. That’s the profile.”

    https://twitter.com/IndiaWilloughby/status/1272865610112909314

The show currently has Kaye Adams, Ruth Lansford, Andrea McLean and Christine Lampard as its regular presenters.

    Three out panelists

The show which has been running since 1999, has only featured three out, panellists. None of which had long term contracts.

In 2004, Amy Lamé, who is out and London’s “Night Czar” was a presenter for a brief period and then in 2018, the show saw Anna Richardson take on some hosting responsibilities.

Also in 2018 Mel B had also had a stint as a guest panelist.

THEGAYUK.com reached out to ITV for comment.

  • Christopher Maloney says his body dysmorphia is “in remission”

The X Factor star says he now feels comfortable having put on 3 stone in weight.

X Factor star Christopher Maloney, 40, says he now feels comfortable with his body after body dysmorphia left him unable to leave his home for 18 months. He says he’s put on three stone since July and now feels really comfortable with his body weight.

Appearing on Loose Women in a Santa costume the singer revealed that he had put on three stone since his last appearance in July, after seeking treatment for his body dysmorphia. He told the Loose Women panel that he had 30 sessions of Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) which he believes has put his dysmorphia in “remission”.

Yesterday he told the panel,”‘I feel fantastic since I was last on the show. I was 11 stone when I came on and now I’m 14-and-a-half. When I had the treatment, the TMS treatment, I gained from eating stuff.

He continued, “I used to feel very guilty about eating. It used to upset me but now I’m just eating and putting on healthy weight.

Christopher went on to say, “I had counselling and treatment in August and my body dysmorphia has gone into remission, I’m really relieved.

He told the panel that after his previous appearance on the show in July he was left with cripling depression, after being made to view his body in a mirror. When he left the show he found out about TMS and went on a course, which is available on the NHS but only in Northampton.

From August he had 30 sessions of TMS which he said helped him with his issues.

At the time the show’s producers were criticised for putting him through the ordeal of looking at his reflection. Christopher was left visibly shaken after the experience.

Speaking about what he’s up to now he revealed that he’s currently playing Prince Charming in panto, which he says he would have previously turned down because of the way he felt about his body.

He told the panel, “I’m playing Prince Charming in panto. I’ve turned down roles because of the way I looked in the past, I usually pay the baddie to hide underneath a wig.”

He was also promoting his autobiography, Wildcard, which was out at the beginning of the month.

People are extremely angry with Loose Women’s “casual homophobia”

Fans of the Loose Women show have blasted the programme after it asked its audience “Should every woman have a gay best friend”.

    loose women
    ITV

A question posed by the Loose Women on their Facebook page blew up into a full-on homophobia row after they asked whether women should have a gay best friend.

The post outlined that a new study had found that becoming friends with gay men may be a key part of women’s ‘mating strategies’ by making them less threatening to other women – and more appealing to straight men.

They then posed the question which some called “offensive”.

“Do you think every woman should have a male gay best friend? Why do you think a friendship between a woman and a gay man is so special?”

The post received a total of 887 comments and many on social media slammed the question as evidence of “casual homophobia”.

    David from Birmingham wrote,

“Always love a good bit of casual homophobia from you lot. Belive it or not we are people and not just an “accessory” Absolute fools.  How would you like it if it was “a menopausal best friend”Absolute jokes.”

    Nigel replied,

“I’d love a gay best friend to add to my collection. Obviously I already have “man human friend” and “woman human friend”, but I’ve also got, and I don’t mean to show off, “black friend” and “disabled friend” and even a “foreign friend” would you believe?! I like to keep them on a shelf next to my Sylvanian families and thimbles I’ve collected from different counties.”

    Steph added,

“Is this some kind of joke? Is a black friend an accessory too? You just collecting other minorities to use for your advantage. This is so offensive. And a new low. Disgusting.”

GayTime columnist and Pride In London show producer Tom Knight hit out at the show to say,

“Dear – Replace the word “gay” with any of following; Muslim, Jewish, Trans, Black… Then ask, how does that question sound?

  • Craig Revel Horwood is open to a relationship with a woman!

So the Strictly Come Dancing judge might not be just exclusively gay anymore, after revealing that he could consider women for a relationship, after splitting with his boyfriend in May.

    (C) BBC – Guy Levy

Speaking to the Loose Women panel earlier today, Craig Revel Horwood said he wouldn’t put himself “out of any department” when they asked if he would date a women after splitting with his partner, Damon Scott back in May.

The outspoken dance judge, who’s currently starring in BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, said that he was loving the single life and joked with the panel that the next person he’d like to date would be “honest and doesn’t sell stories on you”.

He thought that he an Janet Street-Porter would make a great couple.

He also revealed that his former partner, Mr Scott refused to sign a non-disclosure agreement, which Craig apparently gets people to sign before they get too close.

    He said,

“He didn’t want to, I guess that is sort of lacking trust in the relationship. It is hard.”

  • Cliff Richard will take sexuality to the grave

Cliff Richard will take sexuality to the grave

Legendary singer Sir Cliff Richard has said that he won’t be revealing his sexuality any time soon.

Speaking with Gloria Hunniford, Sir Cliff said that he won’t reveal his sexuality… because it’s nobody’s business.

Being interviewed in an extended and exclusive Loose Women, hit maker Sir Cliff spoke about his recent ordeal after being accused of sexual abuse by men dating back to the 80s, which he described as the “deepest and darkest hole” he had ever been in.

The Crown Prosecution Service dropped its investigation against the 75-year-old singer after finding “insufficient evidence to prosecute”.

Sir Cliff revealed that Sir Elton John was one of the first of his celebrity mates to contact him after the news broke that the police were searching his property for evidence. He said,

“Elton [John] was one of the first people that called me. I can’t use the language he used, but he said ‘Go for the — rotten throat.”

When questioned about his sexuality, Richards said,

“I always feel that I’m one of the most open people.

“I don’t mind talking about things but there are things that are mine.

That will go with me to my grave. And I’ve given up for instance, I don’t talk about my family, I certainly don’t talk about my sexuality.”

He went on say that his personal life was strictly off-limits and that it was nobody’s business.

“My personal life is absolutely my business, and it’s nobody’s business but mine. And I feel that about other people. I read stories in the press about other celebrities and alleged scandals and things going on. And I’m thinking ‘Is it illegal?’ No? If adults do what they want to do behind their bedroom doors it’s absolutely up to them. I have no interest. It’s not my business and it’s not your business either about me.”

  • Christopher Biggins: Loose Women Are “Mean Girls”

The somewhat controversial Christopher Biggins, king of Panto and all that, has said that his friendship with Katie Hopkins has cost him his friendship with some of the Loose Women.

Despite his glowing review of Katie Hopkins as, “one of the nicest, funniest people” his friendship with the former Celebrity Big Brother house, former ex-Apprentice and gay icon wannabe has not been accepted by the Loose Women camp.

Huffington Post reports Mr. Biggins said:

“I’ve lost several pals over my friendship with Katie – especially the ‘Loose Women’ lot. None of them will talk to me anymore.”

    He added, rather defiantly:

“I don’t care – they can act like ‘Mean Girls’ all they want.

“I’ve been friends with Katie for a long time.”

Katie Hopkins appeared on the day time show after her ratings busting appearance on this year’s Celebrity Big Brother in January and was taken to task by Janet Street Porter and the rest of the presenters on her comments about Coleen Nolan’s sister.

In 2013 Christopher Biggins caused outrage when, in an interview with The Big Issue he suggested that Bisexuals “ruin women’s lives”. He said, “I think the people who fear homosexuality most are the ones who could be gay. The world is full of bisexuals because that’s the way they want to do it. What do they do? They ruin a woman’s life. It’s so wrong, because you’re not owning up to what you are. You lead a double life so how can you be a real person?”
