The TOWIE star, Bobby Norris, says he was “declined” by an NHS Hospital for an ultra-sound to check for a lump he found while checking himself for signs of cancer.
A shocking side-effect of the COVID-19 pandemic is that some people are being turned away from treatment or health checks like Bobby recently discovered.
In a video, the reality star turned anti-bullying advocate said that he had found a lump while checking himself. He went to see his GP who referred him to a hospital for an ultrasound for further exploration, however, the referral was “declined” with Bobby saying that it was due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Fortunately for Bobby, he was able to afford a private screening, which he said he knew he was in a privileged position to be able to afford, but admitted that he was “terrified” to go for the scan.
Again, fortunately, Bobby’s lump turned out not be something for concern, but the experience has obviously left the star shaken. and determined to share with fans, how important it is for people to check themselves for signs of cancer.
He went on to explain how important it was for guys to check themselves every month for lumps and bumps and said, “if you find something go to the doctor, get it checked”.
Bobby Norris has revealed a shocking body transformation, which he called a “big reveal”.
Taking to Instagram, the star told his 810,000 followers, “Recently I have been working on something very special and today I am extremely excited to showcase the big ‘reveal’. I honestly can’t believe how different I look! But it’s about so much more than that”.
He continued, “I honestly can’t believe how different I look! But it’s about so much more than that. I’ve never had a great relationship with body image, sports & fitness. It’s been a part of my life where I lacked lots of confidence”.
“My mental health has never been better”
He added, “Living a healthy lifestyle isn’t just about the way you look, it’s about being the best version of you and having respect for yourself and your body. My mental health has never been better and I would like to thank you for all the support Scotty, I feel you have made me into the man I always new I could be!”
Fans and celebs alike congratulated the star on his new look. Big Brother stars, Hughie Maughan wrote, “Omg wow ????” and his partner, Ryan Ruckledge said, “That’s amazing really well done ? “
Charlie Condou simply wrote, “Bloody hell ?”
He even got the thumbs up from Michelle Visage, who said, “GO BOBBY GO!!!!”
Bobby Norris hasn’t been to the hairdressers since lockdown began and fans are going wild for his natural curl.
The reality star, turned LGBT+ activist, Bobby Norris has revealed that he’s not been to get his haircut since lockdown began, back in late March and his locks are looking incredible, so much so, fans are begging him not to go back to his old style.
Publishing a picture of his do, Bobby showed off a longer than usual style, complete with natural curls. He captioned the picture, “Has anyone else still not been to the hairdressers since lockdown?!” Fans, of course, went wild for the reveal.
One eager fan wrote, “I love this look! So handsome” while another commented, “I actually think this look suits you so well”.
One fan actually pleaded with the TV star not to cut his hair as it was “blooming gorgeous”.
Of course, Bobby has been making headlines of late with his crusade of ridding the Internet of homophobic hate, calling upon Boris Johnson and the Tory government to make online trolling illegal in the UK.
The petition, titled “Hold online trolls accountable for their online abuse via their IP address” calls for abusers to have their access to social media blocked by internet service providers and social media companies.
The evidence session, taking place during Mental Health Awareness Week, will see MPs speak to the reality TV personality about his petition on tackling online abuse. The session will also see Bobby discuss his personal experiences of homophobic abuse since first appearing in the public eye in ITV2 show The Only Way is Essex in 2012.
He will now talk to the Peititon’s committee over video link to discuss online trolling.
Bobby is vital for awareness
Catherine McKinnell MP, Chair of the Petitions Committee, said:
“I’m pleased that Bobby is able to share his personal experiences of online abuse with the Committee during Mental Health Awareness Week.
“Highlighting these issues in Parliament is so vital for raising awareness, and can shine a light on the action that can be taken to help stamp out this all too common problem.
“Online abuse can affect anyone, and takes many forms. It is a subject that is very close to my heart, and something that the Petitions Committee investigated extensively in the last Parliament.
“But with online abuse as prevalent as ever, and Coronavirus meaning people are on social media more than ever, it is imperative we take steps to tackle online abuse and stamp it out.”
The evidence session is the first step from the Petitions Committee in their new inquiry on tackling online abuse. The inquiry will consider issues raised in a number of petitions from the last Parliament and follow up on the Committee’s previous inquiry into online abuse and the experiences of disabled people. More details on the inquiry will be announced following the session.
On Monday 1 July MPs will debate a petition urging the Government make online homophobia a specific criminal offence. Daniel Zeichner MP, a member of the Petitions Committee, will open the debate.
Bobby Norris states: “As a gay man I find it devastating how members of the LGBT community are still subjected to homophobic abuse online.
“Just because I am on TV I don’t think that makes it acceptable to be sent homophobic messages and comments on social media platforms.
“Nobody should have to receive these comments.”
Mr Norris adds, “I won’t go into detail as to the various names I have been called, but this should not be acceptable and can have an impact on people’s mental health and has certainly helped in making my anxiety and low self-esteem worse by receiving them.”
In response to the petition, the Government said, “The Government recognises the harm that homophobic online messages can cause. We are working cross-Government to challenge inequality and make the UK’s online environment a safer place for everyone.”
Monday’s debate will provide an opportunity for MPs to question a Government Minister directly on this topic.
In January, the Petitions Committee published its report into online abuse and the experience of disabled people. The inquiry found that the current laws around online abuse are not fit for purpose. The report can be read here
Because the petition reached over 100,000 signatures it will now be discussed in the houses of parliament on the 1st July 2019, which anyone will be able to watch on the official YouTube channel for Parliament.
Working cross-Government to challenge inequality
Responding to the petition a spokesperson for the Government wrote, “The Government recognises the harm that homophobic online messages can cause. We are working cross-Government to challenge inequality and make the UK’s online environment a safer place for everyone”.
In his original petition, Bobby wrote, that he was “devastated” by homophobic abused levelled at the LGBT+ community and wanted it to be debated in parliament. He continued, “Just because I am on TV I don’t think that makes it acceptable to be sent homophobic messages/ comments on social media platforms.
“Nobody should have to receive these comments.
“I won’t go into detail as to the various names I have been called, but this should not be acceptable and can have an impact on people’s mental health and has certainly helped in making my anxiety and low self-esteem worse by receiving them”
When it comes to online hate, Towie star Bobby Norris is getting some horrendous messages, including one from a user who tells the star to “burn in a fire”.
Bobby Norris has revealed a shocking death wish against him from online trolls. The TOWIE star, who recently delivered a petition with over 100,000 signatures on it to 10 Downing Street to bring attention to online homophobic bullying revealed that over the weekend he was subjected to a vile death wish from someone online.
Taking to social media, the reality star, who was apparently about to cook his roast dinner on Sunday afternoon, revealed that he had been subject to online abuse from someone who wished him “a painful death”.
Bobby Norris created a petition imploring politicians to make online homophobia a criminal offence, and it’s reached a whopping milestone.

TOWIE star Bobby Norris is celebrating after a petition he created, asking the UK’s government to make online homophobia a specific offence reached over 100,000 signatures.
Taking to social media, Bobby wrote, “WOW!! Thank you so much to everyone who has signed and shared my petition. I can’t wait to get into Parliament now and get this debated”.
As it stands the petition currently has over 114,000 signatures.
In his original petition, Bobby wrote, that he was “devastated” by homophobic abused levelled at the LGBT+ community and wanted it to be debated in parliament.
The Home Office responded at 10,000 signatures, saying “The Government recognises the harm that homophobic online messages can cause. We are working cross-Government to challenge inequality and make the UK’s online environment a safer place for everyone.”
“The internet provides a wealth of opportunities for people globally. It is a platform for everyone to share experiences and creativity, and it encourages rich discussion. It has allowed people to create communities and interact in ways that were not previously possible. The Government recognises, however, that some people exploit these opportunities to spread harmful messages which would not be tolerated offline. Protecting people online is a top priority for Government.
“In some cases, these behaviours may already constitute criminal offences, and the law does not differentiate between criminal offences committed on social media or elsewhere. We have robust legislation to deal with internet trolls, cyber-stalking and harassment, and perpetrators of grossly offensive, obscene or menacing behaviour, which may be relevant to some cases of LGBT abuse.
“Hate crime legislation may already apply in online homophobic offences. Hate crimes include crimes demonstrating hostility on the grounds of an individual’s actual or perceived race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or transgender identity, as well as stirring up hatred on the grounds of race, religion or sexual orientation.
“The Government is taking significant steps to tackle hateful activity online:
• We are funding a National Online Hate Crime Hub which uses specially trained police officers and staff to investigate reports.
• We supported the European Commission Code of Conduct for Countering Illegal Hate Speech which has been signed by key companies including Facebook, YouTube, Microsoft, Twitter and Instagram. A key aim is to ensure that requests to remove content are reviewed in less than 24 hours, and content is removed if necessary.
• We commissioned the Law Commission review of offensive online communications. The Law Commission has just begun a specific review of hate crime legislation.
• More widely, a joint Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS)-Home Office White Paper will be published this year, setting out a range of legislative and non-legislative measures detailing how we will tackle online harms and set clear responsibilities for tech companies to keep UK citizens safe.
The Government recognises that homophobic abuse can have potentially devastating impacts on victims and we are working to challenge inequality beyond a law enforcement approach alone. This broader approach also recognises that we need to ensure we strike the right balance between protecting citizens and protecting their rights to free expression. Everyone has the right to freedom of expression under Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, however this is not an excuse to spread hatred. Article 10 is a qualified right, which means it is not absolute and it can be restricted for certain purposes.
This approach includes a variety of actions. In July 2018, the Government Equalities Office (GEO) launched the National LGBT Survey to understand LGBT people’s experiences of accessing services. Over 108,000 people completed the survey. In response to the findings, GEO also launched an LGBT Action Plan setting out 75 commitments to improve outcomes for LGBT people. The Action Plan includes a £4.5 million fund to address inequality and support the delivery of commitments cross-sector.
The LGBT Action Plan includes the following commitments to ensure LGBT people feel safe online beyond the actions listed above:
• The Home Office is supporting the police to improve how they respond to hate crime and raise awareness of local support agencies for LGBT victims. The 2018 refresh of the Hate Crime Action Plan is supporting police training that is tailored to the needs of victims, such as those of homophobic, biphobic and transphobic hate crimes.
• The National Crime Agency (NCA) will ensure LGBT people can access educational online safety interventions that are informed by their experiences. The NCA will develop effective and appropriate education interventions to ensure LGBT people can be full, equal and safe participants in online activity.
TOWIE Star reveals the extent of online trolling that happens to him.
In a heartbreaking video, TOWIE star Bobby Norris reveals that he has been the subject of cruel cyberbullying including waking up to a vile homophobic slur and body shaming.
Taking to Instagram, in a video, Bobby told his 792,000 fans that while normally he lets “trolls be trolls”, he had to speak out about the latest onslaught of cyber trolling, which included a horrific anti-gay slur.
“Hello guys. I just wanted to do a quick message because I’ve seen a lot of stuff online and on social media written about me.
“For example, [that] I’ve had a face lift done and had a chin reduction which is all news to me.
“Quite bad anxiety and my confidence is often quite low”
The star also revealed that he suffers from anxiety attacks and admitted that his confidence was “quite low”.
He said, “Now, those of you who don’t know, I do suffer with quite bad anxiety and my confidence is often quite low. When you read what people say about you sometimes, there’s no wonder why people feel like that.
He added: ‘Apparently I’m fat, I’m the Human Ken Doll. Nine times out of ten, I just bite my tongue and I’ll let trolls be trolls.’
Today I’ve had to do this video because to wake up and see that I’ve been called a ‘vile f****t’ is completely disgusting.
‘It’s homophobic and I really think the person who wrote that should question their own life”.
Many of his fans congratulated him for calling out the trolls and told him to only take heed of the positive message sent by his fans.
