David Cameron, who expressed his joy in being able to bring same-sex marriage to the UK during his time as PM, sent one last tweet as Prime Minister simply stating:
It’s been a privilege to serve the country that I love.
Earlier this month Disney were called upon to give Elsa a girlfriend after many LGBTI activists said that there were not enough openly gay or lesbian lead characters in films. Reps from Disney have yet to respond to the calls but Idina Menzel, who played Elsa in the animated smash hit, praised the campaign saying that she thought the idea was “great”.
Many fans of the superhero franchise are suggesting that making Captain America, played by Chris Evans, gay or bisexual would not affect the character but would give greater visibility and representation to the LGBTI community in cinema.
@elkknight
#GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend it’s 2016 and we shouldn’t be so afraid of showing different sexualities on the big screen.

#GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend because it is painfully important for queer kids to know a superhero who they admire can be just like them
@KenSergienko
Straight people don’t realize how it hurts the soul to never see your kind of love idealized like theirs is. #giveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend
To date no major lead character in an action hero or animated feature has been openly gay or bisexual.
However some Twitter users have acting negatively to the idea of queering up the Captain.
@EyeAmSMF
Do NOT #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend Go create a NEW gay superhero, please, and give THAT one a boyfriend.
@MiyazakiNoise
What I’ve learned from #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend is that the homosexual community has no integrity.Rain

GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend Is an example of the success of commie brainwashing. Turn us all into liberal faggot pussies to make us weak.
The latest film in the Captain America franchise opened in the US on the 6th May and grossed $1 billion worldwide – the first film to do so in 2016.
During his campaign to become the Republican candidate for President, Donald Trump has been largely divisive on issues surrounding race and sexuality, with many pundits calling out the multi-billion dollar businessman on his views of race, women’s rights and sexuality.
Here’s the full transcript of what was sent from Azealia Banks’ Twitter account to Zayn Malk.
This article contains language that some readers may find offensive.
On May 10th Tweets from Azealia Banks’ verified account were aimed at former One Direction singer Zayn Malik. The tweets used racial and homophobic language. Below are the tweets that were Tweeted.
lol u a bitch nigga for even responding like that. Keep sucking this yung rapunxel dick u hairy curry scented bitch
Azealia Banks has, it seems, been shut down by Twitter after an outrageous homophobic and racist rant was sent on her verified Twitter account to former One Direction star Zayn Malik.
She has also been removed as the headline act at London’s Born And Bred Festival after organisers saying they could not tolerate Banks’ language.
The rant included calling the former One Direction singer a faggot as well as using racial slurs. The UK’s Home Office is reportedly investigating to see whether Ms Banks will be allowed into the country for any future engagements.
“Coming to the UK is a privilege, and we expect those who come here to respect our shared values. The Home Secretary has the power to exclude an individual if she considers that his or her presence in the UK is not conducive to the public good or if their exclusion is justified on public policy grounds.”
The entertainer’s account on Twitter appears to be suspended.
Anti-gay or homophobic slurs are still a big issue on social media.
Homophobic words like faggot, “no homo”, “so gay” and Dyke are used being used over 13,000 times a day or 541 insults an hour, on Twitter alone.
Nohomophobes.com a website set up in September 2012 to log all uses of the words faggot, “no homo”, “so gay” and Dyke on Twitter in real-time, is reporting that those words have been used nearly 61,000,000 times in 3 and a half years.
The word faggot accounts for over half of all of the homophobic language that is Tweeted on Twitter.
Although the trend has been downward since January 2014, alarmingly the use of the word faggot is used thousands of times a day on the social media platform.
Since around June 2015, the levels at which the anti-gay slurs are tweeted have levelled out but still remain shockingly high.
When the site was launched in September 2012, Dr. Kristopher Wells from NoHomophobes.com told us,
“We no longer tolerate racist language, weʼre getting better at dealing with sexist language, but sadly we still see and hear homophobic and transphobic language in our society,
“While this language might not always be meant to be hurtful, we must not forget that words like “faggot” contribute greatly to the continued alienation and isolation of sexual and gender (LGBTQ) people, especially our youth.”
Using the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend Twitter users across the world have asked entertainment giant Disney to give the central character of Elsa a girlfriend in the next instalment of Frozen.

To date no mainstream Disney film has ever had an LGBT character at its centre, although Frozen does contain one of the most visible gay characters ever. When Oaken, the store owner introduces his family – it is another man with a number of children around him.

The Hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend is the brainchild of Twitter user @lexi4prez who commented on how big the hashtag had become.
The hashtag managed to trend on Twitter at number 3 – with tens of thousands of tweets, many from people agreeing with Alexis Isabel’s stance. The Disney team have yet to respond to the request.
Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland, The Gay UK’s editor Jake Hook said it would be a welcome move from Disney, but remarked even if they didn’t go down the path of giving Elsa a girlfriend to not give into traditional trends and make Elsa fall in love with a man in order to win the day.

The film Frozen already has some good LGBT credentials – Jonathan Groff, who stars as Kristoff in the film was the first openly gay actor to portray a love interest in a Disney film.
Between them, the top 25 gay, lesbian, bisexual or trans celebrities we could find on Twitter have access to the eyes of up to 132,000,000 people.
They range from a news anchor to YouTube stars, singers to actors. The average age of these stars is 46 years old, YouTuber Troye Sivan being the youngest at 20 and George Takei being the oldest at 78. Some have made their celebrity status through reality TV, like Adam Lambert (American Idol) and some have played the long fame game, like singer Ricky Martin and actor Neil Patrick Harris.
To make it on to this list celebrities needed to have at least one million followers. Trans stars are vastly under represented in the media and therefore may contribute to the fact that only one trans person had enough followers to qualify.
