So what is The Boys In The Band all about?
More than fifty years after Mart Crowley’s play became an unexpected smash hit for putting gay men’s lives centre stage with honesty and humour, THE BOYS IN THE BAND returns to the screen in a new adaptation that reunites acclaimed director Joe Mantello with the all-star cast of the Tony-winning, 2018 Broadway production. In 1968 New York City – when being gay was still considered to be best kept behind closed doors – a group of friends gather for a raucous birthday party hosted by Michael (Jim Parsons), a screenwriter who spends and drinks too much, in honour of the sharp-dressed and sharp-tongued Harold (Zachary Quinto). Other partygoers include Donald (Matt Bomer), Michael’s former flame, now mired in self-analysis; Larry (Andrew Rannells), a randy commercial artist living with Hank (Tuc Watkins), a school teacher who has just left his wife; Bernard (Michael Benjamin Washington), a librarian tiptoeing around fraught codes of friendship alongside Emory (Robin de Jesús), a decorator who never holds back; and a guileless hustler (Charlie Carver), hired to be Harold’s gift for the night.
What begins as an evening of drinks and laughs gets upended when Alan (Brian Hutchison), Michael’s straight-laced college roommate, shows up unexpectedly and each man is challenged to confront long-buried truths that threaten the foundation of the group’s tight bond.
When is The Boys In The Band streaming on Netflix?
The Netflix film, produced by Ryan Murphy, reunites the entire cast of the Tony-winning Broadway revival. Premiering globally on Netflix on 30 September.

“To launch a rocket into space you need to use the fuselage but at some point, you leave Earth’s atmosphere and you don’t need that fuselage anymore and you realise its important to break it off, if you want to move further. My point is you have to be present enough to understand when it’s time to give certain things up, but you also need tools to know how to deal with being present, because sometimes being present is really f**ked up.
“Sometimes you get really bored, sometimes you have a lot of pain, a lot of loneliness, but you need the tools to deal with that otherwise you’re gonna be in a lot of pain”

Zachary Quinto
Born: 2nd June 1977, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Best Known For:Heroes and Star Trek Came Out: Zachary Quinto is probably one of the most famous gay actors under 40 in Hollywood having secured the role of Spock in the Star Trek franchise of films. Before that, he played Sylar in the paranormal television series Heroes.
James Franco is very convincing as a man who renounces his homosexuality to lead a religious straight life in the film I Am Michael.
Franco is one of Hollywood’s busiest actors. One look at his IMDB page shows an incredible 21 upcoming projects with a mix of indie and blockbuster films. He also likes to mix up his repertoire (and keep his fans guessing) by playing gay characters. He was a gay porn producer in King Cobra, and he directed and produced the 2013 controversial film Interior. Leather Bar. And now in I Am Michael, Franco has his gayest role yet.
It’s based on the true story of Michael Glatze, who claimed he was no longer gay and became a straight pastor. But in 1999, Michael was in a gay relationship with boyfriend Bennett (Zachary Quinto) and was the editor of the successful real-life XY Magazine, while at the same time living in San Francisco – it was the ultimate gay life and gay lifestyle. But Bennett’s father has a job for him in Halifax, Canada, so they relocate there – it’s a city with not much to do, but they end up hooking up with the young good looking Tyler (Charlie Carver). But after a few panic attacks, and memories of his late father and mother, Michael starts to question his homosexuality – he starts to re-evaluate his life, loves, and takes up to reading the bible for answers, until one day he leaves it all behind for a new life.
Shot in just 20 days in New York, on a budget of $2.5 million, I Am Michael didn’t get the proper cinema release that it deserved. It’s done the film festival circuit and it’s only now being released, on video on demand. Writer and Director Justin Kelly keeps the movie flowing, and it never once loses the faith of its subject matter. Franco superbly carries this film (though his hairstyle seems to change in every scene) and the rest of the cast excellently support him. It’s a highly recommended watch not just for it being a gay film – it’s Franco’s performance that is more than worth the watch.
Boyfriends Zachary Quinto and Miles McMillian hit the town last night and looked super cute together.
Zachary Quntion and his boyfriend Miles McMillian were spotted together last night, first the Oscars where they held hands in front of the world’s media, then the Vanity Fair party and then the pair joined a galaxy of stars, including Adam Lambert, Ricky Martin and Bryan Singer at the outrageously gorgeous Elton John Foundation Oscar party.
Zachary, 39 and his 25-year-old model beau who have been dating for over three years, wore matching bow ties, but the Star Trek actor, Zachary opted for a more vibrant jacket with a gold motif. Miles took a more traditional route wearing a classic black tux.
Also in attendance at Elton’s lavish party was the director and producer Bryan Singer who was seen hugging Elton’s husband, David Furnish.
Between them, the top 25 gay, lesbian, bisexual or trans celebrities we could find on Twitter have access to the eyes of up to 132,000,000 people.
They range from a news anchor to YouTube stars, singers to actors. The average age of these stars is 46 years old, YouTuber Troye Sivan being the youngest at 20 and George Takei being the oldest at 78. Some have made their celebrity status through reality TV, like Adam Lambert (American Idol) and some have played the long fame game, like singer Ricky Martin and actor Neil Patrick Harris.
To make it on to this list celebrities needed to have at least one million followers. Trans stars are vastly under represented in the media and therefore may contribute to the fact that only one trans person had enough followers to qualify.
Zachary Quinto came to fame during the Heroes TV show created by Tim Kring. He’s since gone on to star as Spock in the latest series of Star Trek films.

The US Embassy looks like it will defy anti-gay laws in Russia by adding a screening of I AM MICHAEL to a film festival it is sponsoring in September.
Amfest, which will run from the 16-27th September in Moscow and St. Petersburg announced that it added Justin Kelly’s directorial debut, I Am Michael, starring James Franco and Zachary Quinto to its line up of films.
I AM MICHAEL documents the true story of a gay activist who turns straight and becomes a Christian pastor. The film has won a number of awards including FilmOut International Film Festival – Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor
Although the anti-gay Russian legislation, which was introduced in 2013, doesn’t ban films about homosexuality it does become illegal if someone under the age of 18 should watch the presentation.
