  • Cast of Drag Race season 9 pay homage to George Michael video – WATCH

The contestants from RuPaul’s Drag Race season 9 paid tribute to the late George Michael in a reworking of his hit ‘Too Funky’.

NYC drag queen Peppermint and singer-songwriter Ari Gold covered Michael’s song as a duet that also features the CuCu loving Cynthia Lee Fontaine.

British singer George Michael died at the age of 53 on Christmas day. He was found dead in his Oxfordshire home in Goring from natural causes.

His iconic ‘Too Funky’ video was released in 1992 as part of the Red Hot + Dance album which raised money and awareness to fight HIV and AIDS.

Peppermint’s video starts with Cynthia Lee Fontaine asking the question, “would you like me to seduce you?” in Spanish followed by Sasha Velour, Alexis Michelle, Valentina, Shea Couleé, Charlie Hides, Kimora Blac, Trinity Taylor, Eureka, Farrah Moan, Jaymes Mansfield, Aja and Peppermint walk down the run was just like Linda Evangelista, Tyra Banks and Julie Newmar did in George’s original video.

Speaking to Billboard Peppermint said that George Michael was an “absolute inspiration to me and many queer people during a time when being openly gay was a career killer.”

She went on to say: “It’s likely the public would have rejected him had he come out in the ’80s and instead he had them dancing, celebrating, and even singing along to lyrics about the life & love of a queer man. I think it just shows that we are all more alike than different. We really wanted the chance to pay proper tribute to George Michael.”

  • GIG REVIEW | The Pet Shop Boys Super Tour – Leeds First Direct Arena

GIG REVIEW | The Pet Shop Boys Super Tour – Leeds First Direct Arena

★★★★| The Pet Shop Boys Super Tour – Leeds First Direct Arena

32 years ago, The Pet Shop Boys burst onto the music scene with West End Girls, their first single and their first of many number ones. 32 years later, they have kicked off their UK tour, Super, at Leeds First Direct Arena, touring off the back of their latest two albums, Super and Electric, their set featured selected tracks from those albums along with a host of classic tracks and a few unexpected songs. The question is, have The Pet Shop Boys still got it? TheGayUK were there to bring you the lowdown.

    (c) Tej

Opening with Inner Sanctum, the band rattled though some of their more recent tracks, including The Pop Kids, Burn, and The Dictator Decides from their latest album, Super, and Love is a Bourgeois Concept and Inside a Dream from their Electric Album.  These latter two albums have had a heavy dance music slant, and the songs sounded great performed live, with the crowd on their feet and the bass reverberating in your chest. Scattered amongst the set list were some unusual, but welcome choices, such as In The Night, New York City Boy, The Sodom and Gomorrah Show and a beautifully subtle version of Home and Dry, the latter being a real highlight of the show.

But it was, of course, the classic hits including West End Girls, Love Comes Quickly, Domino Dancing, Always On My Mind and new versions of Left To My Own Devices and Go West, which really got the crowd going; and the seminal It’s A Sin was a clear winner within the sold out arena.

Accompanying the music was a projected backdrop and a jaw dropping light and laser show, creating a visual feast and an assault on the senses, as the lasers reached out into the audience, jabbing them with bony coloured fingers, before bathing them in soft sheets of light which penetrated the smoky atmosphere of the arena. Dispensing with the need for backing dancers and elaborate dance routines, the band’s presentation of electronic entertainment neatly mirrored their pioneering electronic sound. The visuals in themselves are worth the price of admission.

Tennant’s voice still sounds as solid as ever, the vocals were clear and songs that were over 30 years old still sounded contemporary as they neatly nestled between the new tracks. However, whilst the light show was incredible, there were times when you were so blinded by the constant flashing lights aimed directly at you, that the movement on stage and the band themselves were obscured as they became washed out in a sea of light; and judging by the reaction of the crowd, a few more of the classic hits would have been welcome, although with such an extensive back catalogue to choose from, it is inevitable that there will be some omissions.

With an extravagant stage show, breath-taking visuals and a sound which never seems to age, the question is have the Pet Shop Boys still got it? And they absolutely have.

The Super Tour kicked off on the 18th February 2017 and tours at various locations including Manchester, Nottingham, Glasgow, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Edinburgh, London and Blackpool. Visit the official website at http://petshopboys.co.uk/tour for details.

  • 11 songs every gay guy was dancing his tits off to in 2001

Ah, now we’re going back… Do you remember dancing your little crazed head off in Heaven/ Dot Cotton / Revenge / Mission / AXM in 2001?

2001 was a classic year for pop. These were the songs if you were a disco bunny, that probably had you throwing your Smirnoff Ice all over the dance floor. Wanna listen to the mix – go to the bottom of the page for the Spotify playlist.

    It was a DIVA Year

    Snakes suddenly became sexy.

If you were a real teenie bopper then Atomic Kitten was your groove.

Janet Jackson had this little (monster) hit.

Were you a survivor? We loved Beyoncé and her backing singers.

Before she was Jenny from the Block then JLO and back again…  She was just plain old Jennifer Lopez. No Lo or Block to be seen.

Although it wasn’t as good as the original… It is Geri…

Then there were DIVAs multiple – in one freaking song.

Then there was the British invasion from Ms Ellis-Bextor.

Did you have one? Obviously, we’re as pure as the driven snow.

And then no 2001 list would be complete without a Steps’ song

  • Eurodance queen Angie Be is back!

She’s a DJ, a singer, and a French Big Brother celebrity. You may remember her famous tune ‘Soundwaves’ from back in 2009. The catchy Dance song was signed in 27 countries including Ministry Of Sound for the UK, reaching number 4 in the Italian Charts and no. 16 in France. She had even won the prestigious Eurodanceweb Award this year, an honour shared with Basshunter (2006), Ultrabeat (2007), Inna (2010) and Milk Inc (2012). The voluptuous blonde ended up on magazine covers countless times and dated famous soccer player Toifilou Maoulida for some time, before taking a break from her music career.

in 2017 she’s BACK and not just with one exciting project, but two!

First of all, she’s teaming up with DJ/Producer BLUE ME (aka Manuel Blanch). Together, they are starting a worldwide club tour. “Blue Me is an incredible DJ, I’ve always loved his track Airwave 99 and his wild energy on stage. We’ll be the perfect combination I’m sure: we’ll both be behind the decks, and he can also play a synthesizer on stage while I can sing live. We won’t be a boring DJ duo, that’s for sure!”. They have recently been posing for the talented photographer Joel Dart (L’Oréal, Puma, Elle Magazine). Here are the sexy results below as well as their deliciously exhilarating official mix!

And finally, she’s also back with a brand new single titled “All Your Love” that should be released soon. The song was composed and produced by an LA-based music team behind the making of hit singles for superstars Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Justin Bieber. The Radio Edit of the song has just been finalized and remixes are being made at the moment. Of the song, Be says: “All Your Love is a perfect summer tune with catchy lyrics, that will get stuck in your head! I’m extremely happy to finally come back with this amazing song. We’ve been working so hard on it, and I’m confident it will be worth it.”

We’re really excited to break the news of this project, and having heard a short clip of Angie Be’s new track we’re sure it’s gonna be a massive club hit! We hope to be able to bring you the full track as soon as it’s officially released!

  • Spice Girls Christmas hit re-imagined as a safe sex same-sex single

Spice Girls Christmas hit re-imagined as a safe sex same-sex single

And this genius uses a condom as the drums.

So the 16th December marks 20 years since the iconic Spice Girls ballad “2 Become 1” became a Christmas number 1. Well, now musician K Anderson has re-imagined the song as a love song between two men and used a condom as the drums.

To celebrate this anniversary, singer-songwriter K Anderson has recorded an acoustic cover, changing the song’s lyrics to ‘boys and boys feel good together’.

    The singer said,

“I always wanted to be in a girl band, and there is no finer than the Spice Girls! And, since one of the song’s messages is about the importance of safe sex, I thought it would be fun to use condoms as my percussion in the track (and they weren’t getting much use in my bedside drawer)”.

    Amazing.

Saara Aalto is the best female vocalist the X Factor has had in a long time and it seems as though she’s already had a Christmas hit album called Angels which she released in 2011.

The album features Christmas hits such as “Walking In The Air” and this amazing version of “O Holy Night”.

The singer who had a rocky start in her time with the juggernaut show said that she feared an anti-gay backlash and felt forced to live a lie after getting engaged to her girlfriend in the summer. She revealed that she and her girlfriend, Meri were the first gay female couple to come out in Finland.

Yesterday it was revealed an ambitious/rich punter has bet a whopping £30,500 that Saara Aalto will win this year’s X Factor competition. Should she actually pull it off the punter will be in for an amazing £62,650 windfall.
