New, fresh hope has emerged for reigning Olympic champion Matthew Mitcham to achieve gold at this evening’s diving event, the Men’s 10 Metre Diving.
Taking to Twitter yesterday (9th August 2012) Mitcham Tweeted:
‘Haha pure, unadulterated GOLD. I’ll hulk-tear my togs off if I win!’
Mitcham is one of the only men to be openly gay this year’s Olympics.

He had been struggling with an abdominal muscle problem for a while, but in trails running up to the games, he has said he again feels confident about stepping out onto the diving board:

“I’ve been smashing myself for quite some time now, in a good way . . . training very hard and putting my abs through very rigorous training and the rest of my body as well. It’s not an issue for me now, mentally or otherwise.”
