    An Olympic diving hopeful Ian Matos, 24, has been inspired to come out as gay after watching Tom Daley’s emotional coming out video, which he made in December.

    Although friends had advised the diver to stay in the closet until after the Rio Olympic games in 2016, Matos changed his mind – and came out in a newspaper interview in his home country of Brazil.

    Tom Daley’s coming out video has inspired other sports stars to come out of the closet including Thomas Hitzlsperger who came out last week.

  • Perez says “Pretend Lesbianism Will Get You Very Far”

    Oppps, Perez has been upsetting housemates again after suggesting that Cami Li should go lesbian for ratings.

    During a conversation with Cami Li (we’re still not sure who she is…) openly gay celebrity blogger Perez Hilton suggested that Cami could go lesbian to improve her durability in the house saying, “Pretend lesbianism will get you very far with the British public.”

    Cami Li is outraged by this suggestions and shouts, “I have self-respect and my family are watching!”

    Cami then goes to tell Michelle and Patsy what Perez has suggested and says, “I’m not about to degrade myself, I’m a college graduate.”

    Later, Calum talks to Perez in the garden about what he has said to Cami Li and tells him that is might not have been in the best of taste, considering what happened with Jeremy.

    As Nadia wasn’t in the room, she asks Perez exactly what he said. He tells her and she says: “That’s disgusting, go and apologise!”

    Perez starts to cry and goes to find Cami Li.

  • Gays have happiest relationships thanks to tea and cuddles

    New study shows gays and lesbians have happier relationships than straight couples and how a cuppa tea keeps the love on track rather than a tropical holiday or diamond encrusted watch.

    Over 5,000 people have revealed how they are keeping their relationships on track, despite what life may throw at them, as part of a major two-year study into modern couples funded by the Economic & Social Research Council. The Enduring Love? study, conducted by social scientists at The Open University, showed that simple acts of kindness are the things that keep people together.

    Co-author of the report, Dr Jacqui Gabb said: “Actions really do speak louder than words and many people consider a loving gesture to be as valuable as hearing ‘I love you’. Grand romantic gestures, although appreciated, don’t nurture a relationship as much as bringing your partner a cup of tea in bed, or watching TV together.”

    Co-author of the report, Dr Janet Fink said: “With a tough economic climate, the rise in grey divorce and social media opening up new ways to start affairs, it isn’t always easy to keep love alive today. However, our survey has shown that surviving adversities – even very difficult situations such as being out of work – can make a relationship much stronger. What doesn’t break you, can make you.”

    Other findings from the survey include:
    – Parenthood shapes relationship quality more than any other factor
    – Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Queer (LGBQ) couples, especially younger people, remain afraid to hold hands in public for fear of reprisal
    – However, LGBQ couples are generally happier about their relationship quality and are more likely to act spontaneously
    – Money issues are one of the most difficult aspects of modern relationships, but stressors such as being out of work do appear to pull couples together
    – Couples cherish affection and cuddles as much as sexual intimacy though sex remains an important part of the relationship

    Ruth Sutherland, Chief Executive of Relate said: “We welcome this insightful and important research into what makes love last. What this study shows us is that couples need to keep investing in their relationships. It’s reassuring to know, especially in these tough economic times, that it’s the small gestures of appreciation and affection, rather than the big romantic displays that really make the difference. The report shows the importance of creating a culture where seeking help to strengthen our relationships is seen as the norm.”

  • New single announced for Kylie

    Fans of Kylie, stand ye to attention, as pop’s most purty princess reveals the title of her new single.

    “Into The Blue” will be the first track taken from Kylie’s highly anticipated new album to be released later this year.

    The song, a euphoric return to the dance-floor after 2012’s, “Abbey Road Sessions”, was written by Kelly Sheehan (Mary J Blige, Rita Ora, Beyonce).
    Kylie spent 2013 recording her new album in both the U.S. and the UK with a host of producers including, Pharrell, Greg Kurstin, Metrophonic, Cutfather, MNEK and Ariel Rechtshaid. The new album will be Kylie’s 12th studio record and the first album of new material since 2010’s “Aphrodite”.

    Kylie said: “2013 was a year of big change, planning and preparation for me and I’m so excited that 2014 is finally here so I can share this new music . Into The Blue is really special to me as it encapsulates a lot of what I’ve been feeling – I can’t wait for it to be out there.”

    Kylie has also recently joined The Voice as a coach; the first episode airs this Saturday (11th January).
    “Into The Blue” will be released on 16th March 2014 on Parlophone Music.

  • TECH REVIEW | iPhone 5s

    So, I managed to get my sweaty little apple-fan fingers on an iPhone 5S for a test drive.

    Its about blinkin’ time too – like a lot of people, my time is nearly here for an upgrade of my handset, the new ones are out and I couldn’t wait. My trusty 4S is on its last legs, scratched and battle scared from a life of Facebook, Twitter and blog updates….it needs and deserves a rest.

    However, and this is a first for me, I was a little let down. I skipped the 5, thinking that as I was tied to contract, I’d wait and see what was available when my contract finally ended.

    I think, having read reviews, headlines, seen the ads, lapped up the keynote speeches, I was expecting something radical but didn’t get what I wanted.

    In terms of design, it isn’t a major departure of whats gone before – which isn’t a bad thing, but it seems that the minor changes in design are changes for changes sake? The split into 5S and 5C doesn’t make much sense for me. The garish colours of the 5C don’t appeal, and the 5S seems a smidge ’80’s. I have to admit to being a little unsure of the size – its feels like it going down the route of others in trying to increase screen size at the sake of portability? It isn’t an iPad, mini or otherwise, so please Apple, don’t make the 6 any bigger. This is a phone, and I for one hope it stays a phone size!

    The 5S I got to try out was the white screen one, perfect for my stilettos on a Saturday night. Its nice enough but, and heres my big issue, the major update from Apple was the iOS, with its overhaul, new fresh looks, new icons, new features – and all these are available on my old handset. I have these, I can play with them – and don’t need to fork out for a handset that offers nothing else. I really don’t care about fingerprint technology – I’ve seen the Man From Uncle (as your dad) and don’t really care that much! If my phone is stolen or lost, I can track, wipe and lock it from my iPad or MarBook (told you I was an apple geek).

    If I’m honest, there simply isn’t anything radical enough here to make me want to upgrade at a cost. Give me a free handset and I’ll upgrade tomorrow – who wouldn’t, but with phone companies increasingly charging you for handsets and an arm and a leg for data, is it worth it?

    I wonder when we’ll get to the point where there isn’t anything new they can do with phones? We hear stories about intelligent glass phones, simple screens without cases as the tech is inside the screen. We have Google glasses, so why not glasses that act as a phone as well? We have watches that link to phones…so why not a simple watch that does it alone? Who knows where we’ll end up – maybe by then I’ll be a true grumpy old man and have given up trying to keep up and want a phone that does something radical, like make phone calls?

    Maybe I’m just too used to Apple breaking rules, creating ground breaking designs, products that change your life – and lately they haven’t done this. Now, they may be consolidating their business, building on what’s gone before and ensuring that Mr Jobs legacy continues with a strong business base, solid products, and worldwide appeal. However, this former garage start-up seems to be more about big business and tying you into its products than innovation and interest. They make more and more upgrades, and make more and more of their older items obsolete in the process and this worries me.

    £500 for a handset that may be out of date in a year for two – not just in terms of style, but in terms of support for the iOS……makes you think

  • MOVIE REVIEW: Having You

    ★★★ | Having You

    The two DVDs that came through my letterbox just after Christmas could not be more different, though both come from our friends over at Matchbox Films.

    The first of the two I watched was Having You, written and directed by Sam Hoare.

    There are some great performances here, from Andrew Buchan as recovering alcoholic Jack, from Philip Davis as his thoroughly nasty and unlikeable father, from Romola Garai, as Jack’s beautiful girlfriend, from the gorgeous Steven Cree as Jack’s business partner and sponsor, and from the ever watchable Anna Friel as Anna, a blast from the past who drops a bombshell on Jack that he finds difficult to come to terms with. It’s a gentle, watchable movie, which draws you in, but I confess to finding it somewhat manipulative with an ending that is just a little too pat to be convincing. None the less, worth catching if you have a couple of hours to spare one evening.

  • FILM REVIEW | Exposed: Beyond Burlesque

    Director Beth B brings us Exposed: Beyond Burlesque, an expose of the ‘new’ burlesque scene, which seeks to challenge traditional ideas of body, gender and sexuality.

    A mixture of interviews, glimpses backstage and filmed performances, we are introduced to an engaging group of individuals, who might also, in other circumstances, be called misfits.

    According to Mat Fraser, an English performer with phocomelia of both arms due to his mother being prescribed thalidomide during her pregnancy, burlesque is an honest and sometimes brutal art form. It can also be extremely vulgar, which is I suppose the point.

    There is a lot of naked flesh on show, though very little in the way of titillation. Maybe, to fully experience the power of these acts, one has to be in the audience, but most of the interest really comes from the interviews, and the performers’ often quirky view of life; at its heart a touching little love story between Mat Fraser and Julie Atlas Muz.

    Truth to tell, it is a little long and could have done with some judicious pruning. I found my mind wandering quite a bit after the first hour.

    30 Rock Actor Maulik Pancholy got engaged in front of the Taj Mahal in India.

    Maulik Pancholy who came out in 2013, has just gotten engaged to his long-term partner Ryan Crovaia. They have been together for 9 years.

    30 Rock was an NBC programme which ran for 7 series until 2013 and starred the controversial Alec Baldwin.

  • COLUMN: Dogging

    The only time I’ve ever contemplated getting myself tattooed was when I owned a dog. I considered having a banner reading: “Never Get Another Dog, Ever”, on my arm. This was in order to remind myself of the total ball ache that pet ownership could bring and stop me in my tracks in moments of temptation.
