  • Will Same Sex Couples Be Allowed In Sharia Law Hotel?

    A multi-millionaire businessman has bought the Bermondsey Square Hotel in London and has imposed a strict Islamic policy.

    In accordance with Sharia law, London’s Bermondsey Square Hotel will no longer be serving alcohol or pork products after a change in management on Tuesday.

    The changes happened so quickly that many of the usual clients of the hotel were taken aback when staff refused to serve them alcohol, which was previously voted the UK’s trendiest hotel on Trip Advisor.

    The staff at the hotel, dubbed ‘Hotel Sharia’ by the press, are currently unaware of the identity of the new owner but have been told he is from the Middle East.

    The Daily Mail reports that an IT consultant who was a regular at the hotel said, ‘A group of us were meant to be meeting in the bar and they said: “We can’t serve alcohol anymore.”
    ‘When I contacted the manager to ask why, he told me that the new owner wanted it to be a Sharia law hotel. Under Sharia law, you can’t make a profit from alcohol.’

    Perhaps more famously for THEGAYUK’s readership, the hotel was the setting to Hotel GB, which starred a host of Channel 4 celebrities, including Doctor Christian Jessen in 2012.

    Hotel GB was a TV experiment, which saw the hotel, staffed by a mix of British unemployed trainees in a hope to get Britain working again. Guests had the option to pay or not to pay depending on what they thought of the service.

    Earlier this year the Brunei chain of hotels The Dorchester Collection faced a world-wide boycott, headed by a number of high-profile VIPs including Anna Wintour, after the chain’s owner, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei said he wanted to run this Country under Sharia law – a law that could see LGBT face harsh punishments including stoning.

    The group who have dropped their fourth LP, Fourth, sang Steal My Girl atop of the railway bridge in the middle of the market at the EastEnder’s set. The boys, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne laughed and joke and looked relaxed as they performed in front of a TV audience of millions.

    Liam encouraged fans to sing along to the hit song, whilst Zayn had issues with his in ear monitoring system.

  • Brits Love Download Time More Than Sleep Time

    Research carried out by MoneySuperMarket has revealed that we spend a total of 57 hours per week online, or 2,964 hours per year. When comparing this to research from The Sleep Council, it’s emerged that catching up on sleep takes a back seat as we spend 10 hours more online than getting a good night’s rest.

    The UK’s number one comparison site conducted research into internet use and found that 18 hours is spent browsing the web on a laptop or PC. Unsurprisingly, the surge in smartphone and tablet ownership has meant a further 10 hours of our time is spent using one of those devices. When it comes to how we connect to the internet, 40 per cent of households benefit from speedy fibre optic broadband with a quarter (25 percent) admitting to accessing the internet at work.

    Mike Saul’s Advice: What to do if your surgery goes wrong:

    It’s essential that you know how to identify the basic signs that something might not be quite right with your surgery, Mike says.

    With buttock augmentation, potential complications include;
    • Loss of sensation in the buttock area
    • Asymmetry in the buttock caused by the fat being reabsorbed. Fat absorption, in some cases up to 40%, can alter how one buttock looks from another. You may require further fat grafting to rebalance the aesthetics of your buttock.
    • Excessive scarring
    • Hematoma or seroma (a buildup of blood or fluid under the skin, that may need to be removed).
    • Damage to underlying structures
    • Untreated infection
    • Disfigurement
    • An adverse reaction to general anaesthetic including;
    • Death (approximately 1 death for every 100,000 general anaesthetics given)
    • Anaphylaxis

    Poor surgical technique and neglect during and post-surgery are also factors to be aware of, as you may have a case for a claim.

    With buttock augmentations, post-operative swelling can last between 3 – 6 months before the full effect of this surgery is apparent. However, if you notice any of the complications listed above, it may be in your best interest to explore the claims process.

    It is, of course, natural to feel some pain once the anaesthesia wears off, however, if the pain is extreme contact your surgeon. Similarly, swelling can last for weeks or months. It’s important that you contact your surgeon to assess if this is normal.

    Be sure to follow exact instructions that your surgeon may give you to help aid recovery – such as lying only on your front, wearing a body garment for 6-8 weeks, no exercise for at least eight weeks and so on.

    What advice would you give to someone who thinks they have suffered at the hands of a negligent surgeon?

    Sam Barton, 22 plans to sue the NHS after a ‘botched’ nose job and plans to spend the money on a BMW.

    A man who has been dubbed Britain’s vainest man has revealed that he plans to sue the NHS for an operation on his nose that he says they have ‘botched’ said the Daily Mail.

    The man, who wants to look like TOWIE star Joey Essex, had the £5000 procedure on the NHS to straighten his nose, he said he has been very unhappy with the results and the negative feedback from his Twitter followers since the op.

    He said, ‘When I initially had the operation done, I wasn’t really happy with the result. I thought it looked worse. But my family and friends told me it looked fine.

    ‘But all the negative comments about it do get me down sometimes. Although there are days when I just laugh them off.

    ‘It doesn’t look fitting to my face, and is uneven. It is too big and looks terrible.

    ‘The fact that people have made the comments has driven me to sue the NHS. It was pointless having the operation it’s a lot to go through for no reason.’

    Over the years Barton has reportedly spent over £30,000 on proceedures for the perfect face, including £20,000 for his teeth, £2,000 on botox and £2,500 on tanning. Many of the treatments have been paid for by credit cards.

    He has said that he needs the cosmetic treatments to ‘combat the anxiety over his appearance that his ‘new-found fame’ has provoked,’ writes the DM.

    ‘Since I was in the newspapers people recognise and stare at me more and it makes me sweat a lot through anxiety.

    ‘I have over 20,000 followers on Twitter and I do get trolled sometimes by some nasty individuals.

    ‘I am very self-conscious about my appearance and I have told the doctors that I need to have regular Botox treatment to keep up my appearance and to make me feel more confident and less self-conscious.’

    ★★★★ | Pulp: A film about life, death and supermarkets

    Gangly geek Jarvis Cocker is the most unlikely looking rock-star ever, but seeing the front man of the British indie-pop group PULP ignite frenzied crowds of a packed stadium, you realise that he is, in fact, one of the very best.

    His quintessentially English band enjoyed enormous critical and commercial success in the late 1990s before calling it a day at the height of their fame in 2002. Cocker then went on to establish a new career as a solo artist and combined this with a weekly radio show and some filmmaking too.

    Much to their many fans delight the band reformed in 2011/2012 for one more major tour of the US and the UK. The final performance was in their hometown of Sheffield, a working class industrial city well known for its droll Northern humor and where they have long been regarded as local heroes. This mutual love affair was clearly evident with Cocker and all the band members relishing with pride at being considered as such a major part of their community’s culture, as equally was the gushing praise from their diehard fans.

    This documentary from German-born New Zealander Florian Habicht which he made with Cocker, is an affectionate look at both this last Concert and the city and its people who are such an integral part of the Pulp phenomenon. Habicht infuses the concert footage with some quirky talking-head pieces from some colourful and eccentric locals and even includes a middle-aged ladies choir belting out Pulp’s most famous hit ‘Uncommon People’ which is considered an anthem in this area. Cocker himself comes over as an extremely likeable funny man which is somewhat of a surprise given the rather dark lyrics of the songs that he pens and performs. In fact, his acute observations of everyday life, and also those of sexual frustration, account for a great deal of the band’s popularity.

    This joyous wee tribute to this disarmingly charming man will totally delight not just his fans but also anyone who has any passion for British indie-rock. Although why Habicht insisting in calling it ‘A Film about Life, Death and Supermarkets’ is beyond me.

  • FILM REVIEW | Starred Up

    Violent prison dramas with raw angry men desperately displaying their machismo just to survive the regime of brutality that pervades in jails always have an underlying tone of homo-eroticism in them. ‘Starred Up’ with a brilliant career-making performance from 23-year-old Jack O’Connell is one such movie especially as it has the near-obligatory shower scene that ends in a naked fight.

    O’Connell plays troublesome teenager Eric Love who has been moved from a juvenile detention facility as they cannot handle him any more. Unlike the other inmates banged up in this adult jail, he doesn’t want to get out, as the reason he has forced the authorities to send him to an adult prison, is that his father, who he barely knows, has been serving time there for the past 14 years.

    The back-story as to how these two ended up being incarcerated is vague to say the least but it’s not that important as its the attempt at reconciliation between father and son that is the focus of the story. He may only be 19, but Eric is a hardened criminal who knows how to work the system, which only serves to enrage the corrupt prison guards who are determined that they will not be beaten by this youth, even if it means actually having him killed. Their undisguised anger is matched by the determination of a do-gooder volunteer social worker who is insistent that he can cure Eric, and maybe even his father, by some simplistic anger-management.

    It gets a tad confusing on occasion when the men’s shouting matches become incoherent, but one doesn’t need subtitles to get the gist of the violent action most of the time. This is essentially Eric’s story and of the way that he has deliberately chosen to develop into manhood. We are never sure either because of the script, or O’Connell’s mesmerizing performance, if the boy actually loves his father or really wants him dead.

    Directed by David McKenzie (‘Young Adam’, ‘Hallam Foe’) from a script by Jonathan Asser based on his own experiences as a prison social work. Even with strong supporting performances from Ben Mendelsohn as the father and Rupert Friend as the social worker, this film, one of the very best prison dramas for a long time, completely belongs to Eric, thanks to O’Connell’s portrayal. We are bound to see a lot more of this actor as he destined for stardom.

    Aussie heartthrob Brenton Thwaite of Maleficent fame has caused a stir at a press junket with The Fix, after suggesting that his perfect partner might not be female.

    A fan asked the question which ‘three things you look for in a partner,’ Thwaite responded, ‘male or female? They’re very different.’

    We totally agree Brenton.
