  • When does Star Trek: Discovery re-start on Netflix?

Fans of Star Trek: Discovery are on hold! So when does it return to Netflix?

In a usual move for Netflix, Star Trek: Discovery has been released weekly rather than in one upload, allowing binge watching- as fans of the streaming service have come to expect.

This is mainly because the series is shown in the US on a traditional TV station CBS – which chooses to run the series weekly, meaning fans across the globe have to wait until each show is shown in the US first.

CBS is the owner of Star Trek rights for television series, while Paramount film studios own the rights to make the movies.

The new series of Star Trek has won a new legion of fans from the gay community after the representation of a couple in the series. The first major representation in Star Trek’s history.

This means the latest ST series won’t be returning to our streaming devices until the new year because CBS has decided to create a “mid-season finale”. Allowing for Christmas scheduling.

The second part of the season won’t be available until January 2018. So fans have to wait a little longer for the following 8 episodes. In total, the series has 13 episodes.

  • House Of Cards production suspended

Netflix has officially suspended production of the Kevin Spacey drama House Of Cards.

Apparently, House Of Cards has been suspended “until further notice”

In a statement, both the streaming service and production company behind the massive hit said they “decided to suspend production… to give us time to review the current situation and to address any concerns of our cast and crew.”

Yesterday Star Trek Discovery actor, Anthony Rapp made allegations that the actor made “sexual advances” towards him when he a teenager. Reacting to the allegations, Spacey said, that he did not remember the encounter but owed Rapp a sincere apology.

The allegation dates back to 1986 when Spacey allegedly befriended Rapp whilst the teenager was performing along with Ed Harris in the Broadway show, Precious Sons. Rapp revealed to Buzzfeed that he was 14 at the time Spacey was 26.

Spacey responded to the allegations on Twitter, saying, “I’m beyond horrified to hear this story. I honestly do not remember the encounter, it would have been 30 years ago. But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years.”

It was also confirmed that season 6, the series that they are currently working on would be the last, but that decision had come months before the allegations levied at Spacey.

Elsewhere, the theatre for which Spacey was the artistic director between 2004 and 2015, The Old Vic,  released their own statement saying they were “deeply dismayed” and had set up a confidential email for past employees to make reports of any “inappropriate behaviour”.

  • Netflix cancels House Of Cards – a decision apparently made months before

Series 6 of House of Cards will be Netflix’s last offering of that show- but apparently, it has nothing to do with the recent allegations against its star, Kevin Spacey.

Netflix announced yesterday that the sixth season, which is currently in production, will be it’s last, although it had apparently decided this before the “sexual advances” allegations against its star, Kevin Spacey.

The show, which has been one of the main boosters for Netflix’s epic rise to the top of the on-demand streaming platforms, trended on Twitter with hundreds of thousands of mentions after the reports hit the headlines.

The sixth season, which stars both Spacey and Robin Wright,  is due to air in 2018.

A statement from the makers of House Of Cards for Netflix, Media Rights Capital,  said that the team were “deeply troubled” about the allegations made against Spacey, by Star Trek: Discovery actor, Anthony Rapp.

    The statement said,

“In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time”.

The decision to end the show happened months earlier, according to the Guardian.

Many, implored Netflix to continue making House of Cards, without Spacey,  just focusing on Robin Wright’s character, Claire Underwood, other demanded that the programme-makers immediately halt production.

  • Oh no! Netflix is raising its prices

Fan favourites such as Orange Is The New Black and House Of Cards are going to be a little more expensive to watch from now on.

Fan favourite House Of Cards will be a little more expensive to watch from now on thanks to a price hike.

Netflix is about to raise its prices, the first time in two years – meaning that your monthly spend could be up to 11.2 percent more expensive.

The standard UK price plan will rise by 50 pence, from £7.49 to £7.99, whilst the premium price plan will rise by a whole pound, meaning it will now cost £9.99 a month. That’s £12 extra a year… We can handle that… right?

The basic account will stay static at just £5.99 a month.

Charges only apply to the two top tiers of membership – the Standard and the Premium. The basic member will remain at £5.99.

In the US, the price plans will rise by $1 to $10.99 a month for the standard service and $2 to $13.99 for the premium service.

Netflix has been at the forefront of streaming technology, forcing mainstream television companies and film distributors to reconsider their options. In a digital age, Netflix is a real disruptor – as millions of people leave linear television behind.

So, what are we getting for our extra £££? Well, Netflix has promised to produce 40 feature films in the coming year, and a continuation of its original programmings, such as House Of Cards, Stranger Things, 13 Reasons Why and ATypical.

    Still worth it though, right?

  • When is Designated Survivor back on Netflix?

Designated Survivor is returning to Netflix this month. Here’s what you need to know about the new series starring Kiefer Sutherland.

When is Designated Survivor back on Netflix?

The brand new season of Netflix’s Designator Survivor is due to start streaming on Thursday 28th September and like the previous series, it is set to air weekly, in contrast to the majority of Netflix’s output.

The majority of the cast will be joining Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) from season 1.

    What is Designator Survivor about?

America’s fate rests in the hands of a low-level official after an attack on Washington decimates the government in this gripping political thriller, leaving an unelected president at the helm of a shaken country.

So what happens in Season 2?

Speaking to TVLine, ABC’s president, Channing Dungey said,

“One of the things we realised is it is a very high-concept show, and we had to get the audience past that concept and get [Kiefer Sutherland’s Tom] Kirkman into the White House and all the rest of it,

“And as much as we love the twists and turns and the cliffhangers, what we’re really looking forward to exploring in Season 2 is some of the character relationships and some of the interpersonal dynamics in the White House.”

What happened at the end of Season 1 on Designated Survivor?

Season one’s conclusion saw Kirkman resolving to reveal to the nation, the conspiracy which killed the majority of the US government, leading to his selection as commander-in-chief. Despite Agent Wells apprehending CIA agent-turned-terrorist Nestor Lozano, and the mole (Jay Whitaker) in the White House exposed there is still great unrest in the White House.

Before his detention, Whitaker distributed classified information to billionaire Patrick Lloyd, who is set to become the focus of attention in the next series.

Where can I watch Designated Survivor?

Designated Survivor is available to stream on Netflix in the UK.

  • 10 reasons why Atypical is a must view on Netflix

Atypical is a coming of age story that follows Sam (played by Keir Gilchrist), an 18-year-old on the autistic spectrum as he searches for love and independence.

    1) Autism is so rarely discussed in the mainstream that Atypical is a necessary step in the right direction to showcase different types of people.

Although the show has attracted a fair bit of criticism, Robin Steward from inews.co.uk says, “Any show about autism, which isn’t widely understood, carries a tremendous burden: people want it to say everything and get it ‘right’. We’re going to need more shows of varying kinds that feature autism in all different ways before there’s a full expression of autism across the spectrum. There are grounds to criticise Atypical, but I’ve chosen to welcome it as one more step in the right direction”.

Considering over 700,000 people in the UK are believed to be living with Autism this is long overdue.

    2) It actually makes you stop for a moment to realise that not everybody that you come into contact with on a daily basis has the same mindset as you… and that’s okay.

    3) Keir Gilchrist, who plays Sam in the show is really quite cute! Shallow I know.

    4) In the midst of so much dark teen drama (13 Reasons Why, Riverdale et al) Atypical is a breath of fresh air.

    5) It’s really very sex positive. Although the parents aren’t all too happy at their kids’ shenanigans – the overreaching plot arch is positive.

    6) It’s not perfect but that’s okay, neither is life.

    7) It celebrates someone literally atypical and his time in high school.

Sam is not popular, he’s not a jock and he doesn’t have a cheerleader girlfriend… As a gay guy, I can totally relate to that.

    8) It covers all the bases of teenage and family life – in one eight-episode series… Adultery, identity, virginity, first dates and crushes.

    9) Oh and Raúl Castillo is basic beefcake.

    10) Short but sweet. Atypical leaves you wanting more – as it only has 8 episodes and they are 30 minuters.
