NOOOO! Cher is apparently the third most negative tweeter

Lockdown has generated a lot of negative tweets. About people, governments and society in general.

A recent study of over 100 celebrities who run and maintain their own Twitter accounts has found that two of our favourite gay icons top the lists of positive and negative tweeters.

While Kylie sits on top of the positive list, with 89.7 per cent of her tweets skewing positive, Cher (gawd love her) is number 3 on the negative list, with only 51.3 per cent of her tweets skewing positively, she follows Nigel Farage and Piers Morgan.

Nigel Farage and Piers Morgan were the most negative celebrity tweeters during lockdown.

A study conducted by Sheffield-based digital agency Evoluted has revealed the most positive and negative celebrity tweeters during the lockdown period.

Research (www.evoluted.net/studies/lockdown-lovers-and-loathers/) revealed that Kylie Minogue has been the most positive tweeter, closely followed by Sir Tom Jones and Lionel Richie, amongst others.

Meanwhile, Nigel Farage tops the polls for the most negative tweeter under lockdown, joined by Piers Morgan and Cher.

The research was conducted by digital agency Evoluted, who took the 200 most famous personalities in the UK (according to YouGov) and filtered the list down to 131 who are active on Twitter and clearly run their accounts personally.

The agency then collected their tweets, quoted tweets and retweets that had been posted since March this year in order to evaluate the content that the person was putting out to all of their followers.

Evoluted then used the bing lexicon method to attribute positive or negative meaning to the words used across all tweets, in order to analyse which tweeters were more positive than others.

A positivity percentage was then assigned to each account – this was created by taking the ratio of positive words used on their timeline by the total number of negative and positive words.

James Stone, Content Specialist at Evoluted, said, “We aim to be as thorough and accurate as possible within our research and our team really enjoyed carrying out this study.

“It’s extremely interesting to see which celebrities are using their platforms to display positivity and which ones heavily feature negativity.”

Research also ranked the jobs of the most positive celebrities, revealing that sports personalities, musicians, TV personalities, actors and public figures made up the top five.

LBC lets Nigel Farage go before his contract is up

One of the UK’s most popular radio stations, LBC, is letting Nigel Farage leave the station before his contract was officially over.

The station which is owned by Global Media, said in a statement that it wished him well, but after discussions with Farage it had been decided that Farage would step down with “immediate effect”.

According to the statement, Farage’s contract, which hadn’t fully run its course but was “up very shortly” with the radio station wouldn’t be renewed and that he was being released from it with “immediate effect”.

The station has had a history of ending its contract, or not renewing contracts with some of its most controversial hosts. In 2017 the station ended its relationship with Katie Hopkins.

In early 2019, Farage created a new political party, after stepping down as the UKIP party leader. The new party, The Brexit Party welcomed in a variety of politicians including Anne Widdecombe, well noted for her anti-gay voting history.

At the time of publishing, Nigel Farage had not acknowledged the statement by LBC.

  • Ann Widdecombe has joined the Brexit Party

Ann Widdecombe has joined the Brexit Party

Ann Widdecombe, one of the UK’s most anti-equality politicians, has joined the Brexit Party.

One of the UK’s most conservative politicians, Ann Widdecombe has joined the brand new Brexit Party, which is headed up by former UKIP leader Nigel Farage. The party was formed ahead of the forthcoming European elections, in which the UK will vote in.

During her time in office as the MP for Maidstone and The Weald, Ann Widdecombe voted against every piece of pro-LGBT+ or equalising legislation for the gay community in the UK.

In 2003 she voted to maintain Section 28 in schools and in 1998 she voted against the law to equalise the age of consent. Between 1998 and 2009 she was involved in 17 votes pertaining to LGBT+ rights – 13 of which she voted against and the other four she was absent from, according to theyworkforyou.com

Ann Widdecombe’s career as an MP was ended in 2010.

She also voted against the Equality Bill which promotes equality and various human rights.

Nigel Farage described Widdecombe’s entry into the Brexit Party, as “great news”. He took to social media to say, “I welcome Ann Widdecombe as our lead candidate in the South West, the Brexit Party is a stronger alliance as a result. This is great news”.

  • UK votes to leave EU

    UK votes to leave EU

The United Kingdom has voted to leave the EU in a historic referendum which will end its 40-year tie to the European Union.

The United Kingdom has voted to leave the EU after a historic referendum sees the Leave campaign win 51.9 per cent of the vote. The Remain managed to swing 48.1 per cent of the vote.

Voters in England and Wales voted strongly to leave the EU whilst voters in Scotland, Northern Ireland and London (60 per cent stay) voted overwhelmingly to stay within the EU.

The turnout for the referendum was 71.8% with over 30 million people turning out to vote.

UKIP leader Nigel Farage said that the 23rd June would, “go down in history as our independence day”.

Nicola Sturgeon, leader of the Scottish National Party said that the way in which Scotland voted as a whole proved that it “makes clear that the people of Scotland see their future as part of the European Union,” leaving little doubt that Scotland could be staging their own, second independence referendum.

    Money Matters

As the news broke at 6AM that the UK had voted to leave the EU, the pound dropped to its lowest level since 1985. Against the US dollar it hit $1.3305. Oil prices also slumped after the news with Brent crude falling 5.2 per cent.

Against the Euro the pound dropped 7 per cent to €1.2085.

Financial instability and drops were expected in the case of a Leave vote with many finance experts expecting the markets to rectify themselves in time. The Bank of England said it was monitoring the markets saying,

“It has undertaken extensive contingency planning and is working closely with HM Treasury, other domestic authorities and overseas central banks. The Bank of England will take all necessary steps to meet its responsibilities for monetary and financial stability.”

  • Nigel Farage HIV Patients “Struggling To Get The Drugs” Because Of Immigrants

According to the UKIP Leader many HIV patients in the UK have written to him to say that they are struggling to get HIV drugs because of immigration.

Speaking on LBC, UKIP Leader Nigel Farage was answering a question from Nick Ferrari about whether he and UKIP were politically toxic. Answering, Farage brought up the controversy he caused during a leaders’ debate earlier in the year, when he made “outrageous” claims about “health tourism” with immigrants with HIV – testing positive in the UK, obtaining medication on the NHS costing £25,000 per patient per year.

During the debate he said, He didn’t believe in health tourism and “We need to put the National Health Service there for British people and families.”

However Farage said, that since the debate and making those claims he has received letters from “lots of HIV sufferers in this country” who have said that their “local clinics are unrecognisable (with) the number of people that are here”.

He went on to say that people were “struggling to get the drugs” they needed.

However THEGAYUK reached out to the NHS media team to ask if they were aware of any problems of drug shortages in clinics.

A spokesman for NHS England said,

“We have not been made aware of any capacity or drug shortage issues in HIV clinics.”

  • Giant Photocall To Protest Nigel Farage HIV Remarks Today

Activist group ACTUP are hosting a giant selfie-photo call to protest UKIP leader’s HIV remarks during the leaders’ debate, prior to the general election earlier in 2015.

ACTUP are hosting a giant selfie photocall in protest against Nigel Farage’s HIV-phobic remarks towards migrants in Trafalgar Square. This peaceful photocall pays tribute to the founders of the gay liberation movement and HIV activism. HIV+ and HIV- migrants and leading figures from within the gay liberation movement and HIV activism will speak.

ACT UP FOR LOVE, will protest today from 6pm in Trafalgar Square, organised by ACT UP London and London Artists Projects.
    Speakers will be:
620pm Garry Brough, Bloomsbury Patients Clinic
    630pm Jose Resinente, NAZ Project
    640pm Natalie Bennett, Green Party
650pm Andrew Keates, director of the AIDS play ‘As Is’ at Trafalgar Studios
7pm Vincent Manning, Catholics for AIDS prevention and Support
710pm Sophia forum, People Living With HIV
    720pm Precious Lubunda, NAZ Project

Nigel Farage questioned whether immigrants who live with HIV in the UK should continue to receive treatment. His remarks were widely criticised by the other leaders and the public at large.

He said: “You can come into Britain, from anywhere in the world, get diagnosed with HIV and get the retro-viral drugs which cost up to £25,000 per year, per patient.

“We need to put the National Health Service there for British people and families.”

  • COMMENT | Pinks For The Blues Or Reds?

There are only two real players that could be Top-of-the-Pops in this years General Election come May 7th. Let’s not beat around the Mulberry, burnt orange soft grain leather weekend bag, Ed Miliband or David Cameron will be residing at number ten whatever the result.

The chart-topper will probably have to share a piece of the action with a lesser party, embarking on yet another coalition. Either way, Ed or David will hold the majority of clout.

The UK would obviously be a more harmonious, Telly-Tubby-like place to live if the Green Party were elected. Everyone would do away with cars and annual travel cards and walk, cycle or skip to work come blustery showers and cheek-freezing winters. Plus we’d purr like kittens in our boudoirs at night, safe in the knowledge if we were threatened by a nuclear attack the country could do sod all in defence. Not practical, unless the Greens send the other countries with nukes seductive sonnets, on recycled paper of course, convincing them to disarm their missiles as well.

Nigel Farage – what a guy. Spitting Image would have gone to town, three major cities and punched not only the air but a couple of Boeing 747s to make a latex puppet of him. Although, he’s doing the muppet thing quite well on his own. This is the chap, back in December last year, that defended comments made by former UKIP activist Kerry Smith. Kerry called gay party members “disgusting poofters”.

Nick Clegg should be aware that liberal, open-minded and generous-hearted Carol Vorderman was out the Countdown door when her time was up.

Attitude Magazine’s May issue asked Farage, “Where do you think we should be turning our attention next in terms of LGBT rights?”. Nigel poetically answered: “Is there anything? You tell me”. Clearly Farage, and matters relating to the LGBT community spend as much time together as Sam-Cam and Justine Thornton (Miliband’s trouble-and-strife).

So, is it the Reds or the Blues who will win the pink votes?

The Same-Sex-Marriage Act was passed during the Conservatives reign. But the Blues didn’t give same-sex couples the same inheritance and pension rights as heterosexual couples.

The gay marriage act didn’t stand a hope in Heaven without the Liberal Democrats help, or Labour MPs like Ray Collins and Waheed Ali. They propelled the Same-Sex-Marriage Act through the House of Lords. 128 Tory MPs voted against gay wedlock, only 117 voted for rainbow confetti affairs.

David Cameron gives the perception he’d be happy to hang out with lesbians and have a cheeky wiggle down at XXL. The Cams would no doubt be scintillating company on your table at a homo wedding – they’ve probably been to loads. Is it a case of wolf in wool tailor-made suit worth £3500? How genuine are the Conservatives as a whole for gay rights?

The Reds passed the Civil Partnership Bill and scrapped Section 28, and in doing so equalised the age of consent, fertility treatments, adoption rights and allowed gays in the armed services to come out.

Let’s not brush under the silk Isfahan rug that Cameron voted against the annulment of Section 28 in 2003. Furthermore, the Tories were the only major party in the last game of ‘I Want To Be Prime Minister’ with the same amount of gay policies as UKIP in this year’s election. Zero.

Ed Miliband told Attitude, “I’m determined to be a warrior against injustice and for great equality”. Ed just might be able to pull-off chest armour, a leather skirt and a plumed helmet. Labour hasn’t had the reluctance over the year for flying the rainbow flag like the blues.

Michael Cashman has been appointed the rainbow superhero on LGBT issues worldwide for Labour. Where’s the Tories’ pink MP?

Who’s most likely to support gay Soho, fight for equality around the globe and perhaps lower the cost of Hermès? One of these parliamentary-plonkers will be chief. I’m voting for the reds in my constituency.

The UK’s leading online people directory has checked and it’s official, there really is only one Nigel Farage. However it appears your chances of running into a David Cameron are quite high with 192.com revealing there are over 300 of them appearing on the Open Electoral Register.

Whilst there is only one Nigel Farage on the register, 192.com discovered that Ed Miliband is also equally as unique, setting him apart from previous Labour leaders, such as Tony Blair who has 116 namesakes and Gordon Brown who shares his name with whopping 1,320 registered voters.

Product Director Dominic Blackburn at 192.com commented: “After the Election debates these are the names on everyone’s lips, in addition to this being the closest fought election in decades it is also set to be the most diverse and we move further away from two party politics. Depending on your political persuasion you might be either thrilled or horrified to be sharing a street with a David Cameron, however you can always find out by visiting 192.com”

Both Nigel Farage and Ed Miliband proved to be more unique that some famous literary figures, you are more likely to run in to one of the 439 James Bonds or even the 179 Harry Potters. 192.com is clear to point out that neither Nigel or Ed are secret agents or have magical powers their names are just rarer.

  • Gay friendly pub in Wakefield opens itself to UKIP rallies and events

A gay friendly pub in Wakefield, Yorkshire has opened its doors for UKIP to hold meetings and events in.

The Harewood Arms, a gay friendly pub in Wakefield is open to opening its doors to UKIP meetings and events, in what is thought to be the UK’s only gay friendly UKIP endorsing establishment.

Many of the pubs regulars have reacted with dismay that UKIP, a party with members who have had their fair share of homophobic headlines like this and this, could be allowed to use the pub for meetings and events.

The announcement was made last weekend on Facebook, when landlord Matt Eason wrote in a message to UKIP Wakefield,

“We’re not planning on painting the interior yellow and purple any time soon, however we do support the ukip stance on the pub industry. Not one person can agree 100 % with any parties policies, you have to choose the few that are right for you. That’s why it’s called politics.”

“We may loose one or two customers ‘support’ but will gain more in other ways. Im not going to sit by and watch our current government tax us thousands a year in unfair business rates and continue to take the piss with beer duty.

“Increased tax on beer and the smoking ban is what has ruined the pub trade and I’m not gonna sit here and say that it’s fine and not do anything about it. In the 3 years I’ve controlled the business side of the Harewood it has never made a profit, ever !

“I can confirm there will be a rally style meet and greet evening at the pub the dates will be confirmed so that people offended by it have the choice to not visit the pub that day”

Yesterday a theatre company in London sent an open invite to Nigel Farage to it’s comedy play about HIV after he was criticised by the other leaders on the televised debate, with Plaid Cymru’s leader Leanne Wood winning the first applause from the audience after saying that he should be “ashamed” for his remarks.
