Gay Dads show off their cute baby bump on This Morning

Good news for couple Trystan Reese and Biff Chaplow as they celebrate being pregnant.

Speaking on This Morning, Trystan Reese showed off his cute baby bump even though he’s 35 weeks pregnant along with his partner Biff. The couple from Portland USA, spoke about how they were expecting their first biological child.

The pair were able to conceive naturally because Trystan is a trans man.

Speaking about the process, Trystan said,

“I wanted to keep growing our family, and adopting more kids was not something we could do.

“We could afford another child, but that [adoption] process was very emotionally difficult for our family, and we thought, actually, we already have everything we need to grow our family on our own!

“I had to stop taking testosterone – I talked to a medical team and made sure that was advisable. We know this seems unique to your viewers, but in our community we actually know a few transgender men who have the ability to carry a child, and who have done so successfully.

“For us it’s not that groundbreaking. The doctors said, absolutely this is something you can do, there’s no reason you couldn’t have a happy, healthy pregnancy.”

Philip Schofield asked Trystan’s partner, Biff if as a gay man, Trystan’s anatomy was “a barrier” he had to “assign in his head”

Biff replied,

“I think the truth is, for all of us in relationships, when we meet somebody that we are attracted to, we are not attracted to every single part of them, necessarily.

“It’s totally possible for me to, say, enjoy hairy chests but be with somebody who does not have a hairy chest.

“That’s how I saw it. It wasn’t a negative thing… there was so much else about him that I loved and was attracted to.”

  a) Being confused is okay, it just means you haven’t been educated on a certain topic yet.
  b) It’s not really TMI if they haven’t disclosed something that makes people uncomfortable… would you say it’s TMI if a straight cis couple got pregnant? Is your aunt calling you up to tell you she’s pregnant TMI?
  c) That’s totally unwarranted on a piece about a trans couple, not understanding something is fine but insulting and belittling it is not. Educate yourself and don’t use rude language when referring to an oppressed minority group just because you don’t understand it.
  
  You’re on a website dedicated to LGBTQ+ news and issues – the T stands for Transgender if you didn’t know.

    No judgements. I’d say she’s with a guy, so she’s straight too. This isn’t a story about a pregnant man, despite what the headline says or any fantasies that you enjoy about “gender reassignment.”

Purposefully misgendering and continuing to use a trans slur when you’re on an LGBTQ+ website is intolerable. Again. What do you think the T stands for?
      
      I’m not even sure you’re watching the same video. It clearly is a story about a pregnant man… What are you saying? What fantasies about gender reassignment?
      
      Random young people getting pregnant is not newsworthy because it’s a mundane occurrence. A male getting pregnant with his gay partner IS news but as he discussed, it’s not that “groundbreaking” or “unique” as straight people may think simply because it’s not as reported on in the media that trans men often carry children. Trans news is often not reported whatsoever by mainstream media.
      
      Oh, and (like I said before) adding “No judgements” to the beginning of your comment and proceeding to make continuously horrendous judgements about a situation you CLEARLY know nothing about does not pardon your nasty words or hurtful opinion.
      
      Honestly, someone please delete these atrocious comments. They do not deserve to be on a page that is dedicated to news on LGBTQ+. The T is so often taken for granted and muted and bigotry continues because people don’t understand something that isn’t as publicised. Continuing to post about transgender people in relationships and about their lives will help to educate and inform people and possibly open their minds to something brand new to them. I yearn for the day people like FuzzmanX open their eyes but FuzzmanX ostensibly just comments on all articles they can find with the same bad-manored, ill-mouthed opinion so I guess they’re either a troll, really bored or some prepubescent tween with too much access to the Internet.

        It’s not weird, it just goes unreported in mainstream media. He says that while the viewers of the talk show might find it “unique” to them, and the LGBTQ+ community, it’s actually not that unique. They’re obviously not attention whores for speaking out on a subject that goes completely unrecorded in mainstream heteronormative media. No, it’s not a crime to notice someone’s trans, he’s not really trying to hide it, what I take offence to is you calling him a “freak show”. That’s unwarranted and childish and it’s hate speech.
        
        You’re not my therapist but you clearly have some issues you need to work on.

If you are going to transition to a man, having a baby shouldn’t be an option. This is not transphobic or any other “phobic” it’s just extremely confusing and makes no sense that a FTM transgender individual is giving birth yet has a full grown beard and fits all other aspects of the male gender. This is somehow groundbreaking or amazing but until men who were born as men miraculously start giving birth I don’t think I’ll ever be on board with something like this.

  So your argument is solely based on biology making it okay? Adding “This is not transphobic or any other “phobic” it’s just extremely confusing and makes no sense” does not eliminate the element of transphobia in your comment. That’s you opinion, sure, but let me clarify your confusion. Yes, he was female but he’s transgender and he identities as male. The fact that he has a beard means he’s probably been on testosterone for quite a while since it takes quite a while to grow facial hair and he’s obviously also had top surgery. Perhaps that is enough for him to feel like a male and perhaps he doesn’t need to have bottom surgery, plenty of transgender FTM don’t and that’s absolutely fine. Why is it that biology has to greenlight male pregnancy for you to be okay with it – biology gets thing wrong ALL the time with defects. It does make sense to many people that he doesn’t NEED to transition and you shouldn’t go on an article and chastise him for not getting bottom surgery because you don’t think it’s okay that he hasn’t and is pregnant. Maybe say you’re confused so someone can clarify and educate you but saying you’re not on board with this – with a pregnancy – serves what purpose exactly? It’s insensitive to imply that only men who are born men should have the right to be able to have babies when so many people aren’t and do, as is the case here.

  Yes. Because he identities as male – that’s all you really need because gender is a social construct and Western culture pressures trans folk into HAVING to transition to be accepted into society when that shouldn’t necessarily be the case. It’s a gay relationship because it’s between two males, so yeah it can be called – and should be called – a gay relationship because the trans male identities as male.
