Speaking before the general release of his new film Little Men (out today) award winning director and writer Ira Sachs told THEGAYUK.com that homophobia, and perhaps more worryingly internalised homophobia is alive and well in the film industry and that gay men were “the worst in Hollywood”.
When asked about the film industry’s record on diversity and whether the industry suffered from internalised homophobia, he answered,
“It certainly is”.
He continued,
“Gay men are some of the worst in Hollywood.
“Well, for understandable reasons, people live by fear and they make choices based on fear.
Ira Sach’s latest film, Little Men is a coming-of-age film following the story of two teenage boys whose relationship is put under pressure after their parents fall out over business terms.
He went on to explain why he thought that internalised homophobia existed in the film industry, suggesting that economic fears and job stability could be to be blame.
When the choice is about your job and your fear of what happens if you don’t succeed, if you take a risk that’s actually personal, so there’s a lot of reasons people choose to be safe.

A mega fan has floated the idea of having a Lego version of Red Dwarf
With the rather spine tingling news that Red Dwarf is returning to our screens tonight a fan has revealed his plan to get Lego to sell an official Red Dwarf ship – complete with the ship’s famous characters Dave Lister, Arnold J Rimme, The Cat, Kryten and Holly – the ship’s computer.
The design which was created by user Bob Turner features Lister and Rimmer’s iconic bunk beds (includes the posters inside), a sliding airlock door and not forgetting one of the ship’s mischievous Skutters. The design has already recieved the support of 865 people as well as re-tweets from most of show’s cast – Craig Charles (Lister), Danny John-Jules (CAT), Doug Naylor (creator), Norman Lovett (Holly) and Clare Grogan (Kochanski).
Check out the design here and lend your support to get Red Dwarf in Lego form! Talk about Red Dwarf on our forum
A gay Muslim man took to the Question and Answer site Quora to ask advice on what he should do after he was told to find an Imam to perform Ruqyaa (a form of spiritual healing) and to marry a woman… One user even suggested that he start fasting…
“I have been suggested to find an Imam that performs Ruqyaa and to marry a woman. Some people tell me I am going to hell already(I am still virgin), others tell me it is about the act. That I have to suppress my urge, I am afraid to become sexually repressed or having mental issues. I feel so confused.”
Well, users had their fair share of thoughts from the helpful to those ideas that were less than useful. We’re not quite sure how fasting or will help. We’ve shared a few of their thoughts.
Don’t ever seek counselling or therapy.
Don’t marry a woman without telling her you are gay.
Get a visa to another more accepting country.
Ask for forgiveness from Allah for all sin.
Mix with Muslims who are clean, pious, characterful & practice good deeds.
Don’t bother about western and sex free cultures who will induce you to be on this path. This is their way, not a way a Muslim should lead to.
I would recommend you get professional help, in the real world, from a reliable and a valid dependable person, a religious man who knows Islam very well.
Stop following your sex drive. I recommend you start fasting (as it will reduce his sex drive)
Be gay or be a Muslim. There isn’t much of a middle ground unless it comes from a fake Imam.
Continue to be both gay and a Muslim. Seek out other queer Muslims.
Maybe you should think of leaving Islam.
Do you think any of this advice is helpful? What would you suggest?
What do Abba, Kylie, Scissor Sisters, Elton, Jason Donovan, Streisand and Musical Theatre have in common? Read on.
The official chart company have just published the list of the biggest selling album for each year from 1956 up until today and basically it seems you really have to appeal to the pink pound if you want a really big seller. Abba come up tops three times, Adele twice and loads of other very gay friendly artists are among the chart champs of the last 60 years even Su Bo make the list.
Unbelievably 11 of the list are from musicals and musical theatre so nothing gay there then. There is no room for any macho rock, hip hop, r&b, rock and roll or homophobic reggae. Basically if you don’t fit with the G-A-Y party Crowd, a pride float, the Royal Vauxhall Tavern dancefloor or on Gaydar radio then you ain’t gonna get those multi-platinum discs.
Gays just have more spare cash and we LOVE to spend it on our music. Therefore no Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Beyoncé, Rihanna, U2, Dance acts or any closet queer punk rockers.

The legendary 80s group, Culture Club are making a return to the stage as Boy George reunites with his band mates.

One of the biggest bands of the ‘80s is back AND with the original line-up, playing their only UK show this year on Wednesday, December 14th, at The SSE Arena Wembley, London, with special guests, in their only UK performance, Kid Creole and the Coconuts.
The overwhelming excitement and outstanding rave reviews garnered on their world tour have driven the group to announce a homecoming show in London where the band will perform favourites from their albums including Kissing to Be Clever and Colour By Numbers, as well as their latest album Tribes.
Known for dominating the charts worldwide with their classic hits including “Karma Chameleon,” “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me” and “I’ll Tumble 4 Ya”. There is not a country in the world that doesn’t know the names of Boy George and Culture Club. The Grammy Award winners have sold in excess of 100 million singles and over 50 million albums, and were one of the biggest pop bands of the 1980s.
They achieved seven straight Top 10 hits in the UK, nine Top 10 singles in the USA and nine Top 20 singles in Australia. They had number 1 singles in over a dozen countries and multiplatinum album sales across the world, and were the first group since The Beatles to have three Top Ten hits in America from a debut album. They were also the first group in music history to have an album certified diamond in Canada.
The original band line-up is Mike Craig (bass guitar), Roy Hay (guitar and keyboards), Jon Moss (drums and percussion) and flamboyant front-man Boy George (lead vocals).
Tonight marks the return of Red Dwarf on Dave and here are the reasons why every reader of THEGAYUK should watch it.
All through the 1990s Red Dwarf was one of the slashiest (the viewer knowing two same sex people might be more than friends even though the writer never makes it explicit) Sci Fi Shows around. Go figure: The last two men in the universe (Chris Barrie as Arnold Rimmer and Craig Charles as Dave Lister) who bitched and bickered day in day out but also shared a bedroom together; (looking back they were like a prototype of the gay couple in Vicious in so many ways.) There were often hints at a deeper relationship between the duo that gave rise to some very hot Rimmer and Lister slash on “Archive of their Own”.
Besides the undercurrents there was also quick witted dialogue, a gay kiss and Chris Barrie’s torso on display on several occasions.
If that isn’t enough you will also be treated to a very vain Cat human (Danny John-Jules) and a very camp housework obsessed android (Robert Llewellyn as Kryten).
Of course slash isn’t the only reason why you should watch this show. There is also brilliant comedy and deep pathos. The reason why Red Dwarf resonates with an LGBT audience is how it plays with the feeling of being different and alienation. Rimmer for example: who has been conditioned to act like his parents wanted and can never escape his self hate. The Cat and Kryten who are unafraid of acting feminine. And Lister who knits and cries at movies is open minded about everything and everyone he meets. A mixed bunch of people who have learned to accept each other, despite their differences.
Even though the cast is older now the new series has all these elements while also feeling remarkably fresh and current. Tonight’s new episode is as fast passed and witty as any episode of Doctor Who or Sherlock. Watch out for the sassy guest role by Lucie Pohl she has “new Doctor Companion” written all over!
As a further treat Dave also broadcasts two of the series best early episodes straight after the premiere. Marooned especially is a triumph.

The news that Twilight star Robert Pattinson has come out as gay is in circulation, but is it true?
CREDIT: Denis-Makarenko-bigstock
The rumour that Robert Pattinson has come out as gay is circulating in some of the press, after it was suggested that he had split with his girlfriend FKA Twigs.
So THEGAYUK has done a little digging around and it looks as though it’s not true – he’s not come out and the actor has yet to release a statement from his own sources to back up the story.
The news has been shared thousands of times on social media with one particular news site claiming that they have the inside scoop on Robert’s private life after an alleged interview. The article was published on the 15th September 2016.
However deeper reading of the site’s disclaimer reveals that it is a “satire” site and its content is “not factual information.”
Now88News claims that the actor came out to them and in the supposed interview Robert is alleged to have said,
“I completely fell for this guy and at first I thought I was confused with my emotions and I did not want to let my female fans down …
“But after careful consideration I felt it was best to come out to the public and confirm that I am gay.”
The story also claims that GayTimes has approached the star with a “multi million dollar modeling contract”.
THEGAYUK has reached out to GT on the news that they would part with millions of dollars for a photoshoot – they’ve denied the claim.
We also reached out to Now88News.com for confirmation of the story.
The site has also recently run stories that Jaden Smith, Will Smith’s son was found dead.
