When it comes to body image, gay men can be a pretty tough crowd. Attractiveness can be key part of a man’s self-esteem, for both good and bad. The pressure to look good is even more intense in an image-driven culture where near-naked ideals of masculine perfection abound. Men are being objectified as never before. “The Adonis Factor” is a revealing look at this love, or lust, for male beauty.
In a world of superhero movies and perfectly washboard abs plastered on billboards and in magazines, men are suffering from body image issues almost as much as women these days. But amidst the endless #gympics, #thirstythursdays and #flexfridays, there are a few brave and bold body positive men showing social media how it’s done. Men can struggle with body image just as much as women can, and so we need body-positive role models for men now more than ever.

His Instagram is brimming with hilarious videos and celebrity selfies, not the least of which is this group shot with Tess Holliday herself.
Matt Diaz became an important – and loud – voice for the body positivity movement when he posted a very vulnerable shirtless video of himself in 2015. In it Matt explained how he had lost 270 pounds over 6 years, leaving him with a significant amount of excess skin. Now with 22.5k followers on Instagram, Matt remains a prominent male voice for body positivity, claiming to be equal parts cheerfulness and “f^&k you haters”.
Steven Martin (Not to be confused with Steve Martin) is a male plus size model from Germany who is fond of taking selfies in the bathroom mirror.
Less of a gym-rat these days, Steven is carving out a nice modelling career in Germany, the UK and France, and doing his part to promote body positivity and body confidence for men as well as women.
Founded by Bruce Sturgell, Chubstr is a website that is dedicated to plus size men who are looking for fashion that fits. Bruce also believes that fashion is a great way to introduce the ideas of body positivity to men, proclaiming that even those who don’t feel comfortable talking about body image issues can find support in the fashion community.
Michael-Anthony Spearman describes himself as a “Detroit gent”, and believes that fashion is a “safe” way for men to gain visibility and work on issues around body image. His blog The Big Fashion Guy looks to inspire gentlemen of all sizes, and his Instagram is chock full of photos of him just being incredibly stylish and owning it.

The X Factor star, Lloyd Daniels, has revealed to his legion of fans that he’s thinning on top – and is doing something about it.
Speaking about his hairline, the singer said, he had been losing confidence as a result of his receding hairline and has only managed to keep the issue hidden by clever concealment.
He spoken out about how he’s being trying to keep it hidden and up until now hasn’t spoken publically about his issue.
He revealed that he’s been using clever haircuts to “cover up” his receding hairline.

However, he’s just undertaken a robotic hair transplant from Artas Robotic Hair Transplant at Juvida Clinics in Yorkshire. He said that he hoped that his journey would inspire others who are upset about balding to take steps.

Thomas Morin, 66, was handed a £500 fine by the Glasgow Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to shouting homophobic abuse at a number of people in Glasgow at the Queen Street station on the 4th March.
Appearing in court six days later the man was fined £500 after he pleaded guilty.
Arresting officer PC Alan Kavanagh, said,
“Targeting anyone with intimidating abuse because of who they are is disgusting and we will never tolerate it. Our officers were patrolling the station when we heard his comments so were quickly able to detain him and bring him before the courts.
“I am pleased that Morin was handed this fine and I hope he thinks again before acting in such an offensive way.
“If anyone ever experiences homophobic or hate related abuse I would encourage them to report it to BTP. You can send a text discreetly to 61016 and we will investigate”.
