ADVICE | Is My Penis Too Small?

Dear TGUK,
My flaccid penis is quite small, probably about 2-3inches but it becomes 5.5-6 inches when erect. Is this normal? How do I get over my fears about being naked in front of another person, as I am 20 and still a virgin?

Dear John,
This is a very common worry. The truth is that there really is no such thing as ‘normal’ when it comes to penises. For example, there is a lot of variation in the angle of an erect penis. Some erect penises point straight up, others straight down or a slight bend to the left or right. There are many different sizes too.
It is normal for men to be worried about size because of all the cultural pressure society places on it. Try not to get anxious about it. So long as you are otherwise healthy and happy, the most important thing is taking precautions to ensure that you do not run the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including using condoms, when you do have sex.
While there are many products and procedures available suggesting that they can help men to increase the size of their penis, there is little conclusive evidence to prove that they are safe and that they work. There really isn’t much that men can do to change what they are born with, so my advice would be to come to terms with what you have.
There are however some steps that you can take to improve your own and others’ perception of the size of your penis, including trimming your pubic hair and losing weight. Staying fit and healthy can also improve your sex life.
In some cases, people inaccurately conclude that they are not as big as they should be. Counselling has been shown to be beneficial for men with penis anxiety as therapy helps patients identify and correct any distorted views, building self-confidence and overcoming fears about sexual relations.

Before The Dawn

You need to learn patience with Kate Bush. Ever since I heard “Wuthering Heights” I became a big fan of Kate Bush. I was 4 at the time and l remember saying to myself that I will see her live in one of those concert things. 35 years later I finally got to see Kate live at the Apollo on the 24th September 2014. I was four rows from the front, could see not only the whites of her eyes but the bare soles of her feet. I remember crying many many times. It really was a dream come true.

Releases from Kate Bush have been quite fast coming. Not that you would think it. After a 12 year hiatus, she returned in 2005 with Aerial. Then in 2011 there were two releases and a year after that the Before the Dawn tour that people went crazy for.

We then had to endure a 26 month wait before she released the CD recording taking from various shows during her 22-night residency at the Hammersmith Apollo where she last performed in 1979. What hadn’t helped the wait was Paddy Bush telling Graham Norton on his BBC radio 2 show late last year that Kate was going to release something from the show. We all thought it would be the DVD.

To be fair I had pre-ordered my copy on the day of its mention and that has been an agonising wait. Finally, on Friday my copy was delivered. I had to contain myself. I wanted to immerse myself in the whole experience. Playing it on the computer at work while being interrupted by mechanics and the telephone would have ruined it. On social media, I told friends they could all **** off, I would be with Kate Bush. And only Kate Bush.

I got home, locked the door, vodka was poured, ran upstairs to the manlab and became one with Kate Bush. The cellophane was removed from the three CD set and I indulged myself in the little booklet that accompanies the set. It goes on about the show and Kate gives thanks to everyone involved. On the night she was so gracious to us the audience too and that hasn’t been edited out from the CD. Each CD is set as an act. Act 1, 2 and 3.

Act 1 CD is your typical concert made up of seven songs. It was nice to listen to Lily without the muffling that comes from crying. Never be mine wasn’t actually played at the live show though it does appear on the CD. A puzzling question as to why this appears on the CD. That said I am glad it does. It is one of my favourites. I’ve many favourites but this one just happened to help me during a strange period of finding out who I was and what my life might have been at the time. Joanni about Joan of Arc was brilliant live.

Kate Bush’s first and only tour set new standards in live shows. From what I have read she was sort of the first to come out with a handsfree mic headset so she could perform in the song with visuals and art. You would have been stupid if you didn’t expect her to move the goal post again. So enter act 2.

Act 2

Act 2 was taken from the B side of Hounds of Love titled The Ninth Wave. I never really understood the whole ‘woman drifting out to sea from a shipwreck. The concert put a lot of visuals to it. It all made sense. On the CD you are allowed in but shut your eyes first and enjoy the story telling through some acting and music. The live version of Dream of Sheep is just amazing. I like the song on the normal album, however, live changes it. You can hear the desperation in the woman’s voice hoping that she is found. Little Light reduced me to tears.

The heartache of it all ends in an uptempo version of The Morning Fog. An Irish jig soothes you after the journey experienced through the last 9 songs. It’s needed. I’m crying again as I listen to it.

Act 3

This section was mind blowing. Audibly it still is. This time though you can open your eyes. Taken from the Aerial albums A Sky of Honey CD with three other songs added. Tawny Moon was sung by Kate’s son Albert McIntosh. Albert actually makes more of a presence through this section of the CD singing alongside his mother, his voice complimenting hers along the way. This time you are taken along 24 hours of changing sky in just 73 minutes.

From this act Sunset stands out on its own as it rises and rises like the song, rising to the top of the night. On the night Tawny Moon did seem to go on forever when it was only 7 minutes long.

I loved Aerial. On the album it’s pleasant. The live version was damn right frightening. It gets so loud and frenetic. It’s not the song you thought it was. Your pulse rate banging hard and fast to the song. When it does end there is a solo of Kate singing Among Angles. Again I cried.

She ends the set with Cloudbusting. Having calmed you down, for the final song you are up on your feet. For the entire three CDs, you have listened and absorbed. Now you are singing with her. Clapping and stamping your feet. It’s an ending of all endings and sadly it is the ending. Lights up, carry on.

I don’t have any bad words to say about this. The concert could have been watching Kate paint a wall white, I’d still have loved it and the CD could have been filled with silence except for some casual cough or other such noise. I’d still love it.

Let’s hope that in two years time we get the visual to go with it. That would be nice though I’d have to stock up on more tissues.

In an exclusive interview with THEGAYUK.com RuPaul’s Drag Race judge, Michelle Visage revealed that there’s no end in sight for the ever popular show. Joking she revealed that she’d even go on to judge with a zimmer frame – as long as it’s covered in jewels and glitter.

Michelle, who will be in the UK next month for her tour, Christmas Queens, told us,

“Season 50… Sign Me Up!

“There’s no end in sight. There’s no reason I can’t be sitting there with a fabulous glittered walker. I could be 90-years-old and still judging drag queens. I’ll still be fierce and so will they. There’s just no end in sight.

She also revealed that the show’s last season was the most watched in its history and the highest rating show the Channel had ever received.

“The bigger the show gets, the more attention it gets… Season 8 and then All Stars, (was) the biggest season we’ve ever had. Drag Race was the highest rating local TV has ever had in the history of the channel.”

RESTAURANT REVIEW | Pho and Bun

We know what a bun is but what exactly is Pho? Find out at the West End Vietnamese restaurant called Pho and Bun.

Its menu is a feast, and a mystery, to the eye. Dishes with names you’ve never heard of (MIẾN TRỘN TÔM THỊT and GIÁ XÀO NẤM) – coupled with ingredients and tastes that you’ve never had (lemongrass tofu and dill mayonnaise) make this for a unique and excellent meal.

‘Bao’ is the new ‘it’ food in London, and Pho and Bun has a full menu of Bao. How to describe it? It’s a very light (and white), and very fluffy but not too heavy or filling bun. And Pho and Bun is using bao as the bread for their steamed bao burgers. You can have honey belly pork with fried shallot, confit belly pork with soy sauce, but I opted for the 28 days dry aged beef. It was, as I told my dining companion, the best burger I’ve ever had in London. The meat was delicious and tasteful, small yet satisfying, and the red onion relish, house pickle and smoky mayonnaise inside gave it a very unique and sumptuous taste (excellent value at £7.50). Our waiter recommended the sweet potato chips with chilli mayonnaise to go with the burger, and they were so so good. My dining companion had the Pho noodle (Pho is soup) with red wine braised beef. It was hearty, with lots of vegetables, vermicelli and the beef, which was nicely soft and moist, and is a dish I’ll order next time I go back. Other pho choices include the corn-fed chicken, seafood or crispy tofu, a spicy imperial version, as well as a stir fry version (beef rump steak and tofu and mushroom), and all under a bargain price of £9.50. My dining companion ordered a fried dough stick with his dinner – it was nicely textured and very soft.

Starters are highly recommend. The BÁNH TÔM HÀ NỘI -Hanio Prawn Pancake with sweet potatoes and lettuce wrap – was brilliant! Sweet potatoes are the base for the prawns, so it’s served pancake-style and chopped up into chunks. It’s crispy, crunchy and oh so good! And it’s served with lettuce so you’re supposed to wrap the chunks into the lettuce and dunk into a fish sauce, but I preferred to eat it on its own – absolutely divine! And at £6.50 it’s a must. Trust me! If you prefer a taste of everything then go for the P and D Special Platter Summer Roll Prawn that includes delicious spring rolls, nicely textured, lite and not too chewy chilli squid, served with onions and peppers, and prawns on top of shredded mango with cole slaw, nuts and basil and lettuce (so refreshing), which was amazing, and summer rolls with tofu and tiger prawns, wrapped in lettuce, served plain but peanut sauce is given on the side which highly complements the dish. All this comes a price of £13.50 but they will let you mix it up if there is something you don’t want or something else on the menu you want to add to it.

Of course, no meal would be complete without dessert. Pho and Bun’s dessert menu is small, which makes it easier to decide what to have. We ordered two to share – the Pandan and Coconut Panna Cotta with Peanut and Pineapple Salsa and the Flan caramel with Vietnamese Ice Coffee syrup. The Flan was hands down the winner; it was rich and tasteful and the coffee flavour gave it a nice kick. The Panna Cotta was a bit tasteless, I was expecting to be a bit more wowed by it but I was not. I’ll order the flan again next time. Also in mind for next time is the grilled banana with coconut sorbet and roasted peanut or a trio bean dessert with pandan jelly – which sounds highly unusual. All deserts are under £5.00.

Pho and Bun offers a nice selection of coffees and teas; the carrot juice was very fresh and elegantly served in a tin cup. The Homemade lemonade was refreshing and good. Wines are also on offer, as is the recommended Saigon beer.

I’ve briefly touched on the menu above, it’s such a diverse food menu and there is truly something for everyone at Pho and Bun. As mentioned above, the burgers are yummy and different, the Pho and Noodle soups are hearty and good value for money, rice and vermicelli dishes (BBQ pork with salad and fresh herbs or the glass noodle with minced pork, tiger prawn, fresh herbs and confit aggs, or perhaps plain beef rump steak or tiger prawns with bean sprouts and stir-fried lemongrass) – all at a good value price of £9.50. There are also salad and vegetarian dishes, a great value set lunch menu (two courses) for a mere £9.50, or a highly recommended 6-course tasting menu that gives you a bit of everything (including a sampling of four starters) at a low price of £22.95.

Pho and Bun is conveniently nestled in London’s West End, right on Shaftsbury Avenue, in the heart of the theatre district and Chinatown. It’s in the location where Young Cheng, a very popular and cheap Chinese restaurant, used to be. The venue has been redone to resemble a Vietnamese cafe, nicely wood panelled and cosy. But now that winter is here, avoid sitting near the front door, it’s very very drafty. Downstairs may be a better option for you as it’s warmer but it still retains a typical restaurant basement feel. Quang our waiter was wonderful, very charming and friendly, and recommended dishes that we didn’t realise we wanted but enjoyed eating! While Pho and Bun is not quite 5 star overall, it’s food is five star. I will be going back very very soon.

What is going on with Lucian Piane?

It all started off with some relatively harmless political tweets on his Twitter account. Lucian Piane, the songwriter for RuPaul and occasional Drag Race judge was sharing stories on the less than shining sides of Hillary Clinton and President Obama in the run-up to the presidential election. Some fans thought he’d gone a little too far down the conspiracy theory route, but on the whole, they were humouring him mostly. But on November 3rd, his account took a turn for the worst.

A tweet from his account directed at Sia’s Manager David Russell, saying it was funny that Russell had AIDS was posted out, and at first the fans thought Piane had been hacked and jumped to his support. What also led people to believe a hack, was over the next couple of hours, various tweets that sounded like they were coming from a hacker were posted out, including accusations of X-Men director Bryan Singer making one of Piane’s friends have sex while the director watched and that Piane had kissed CNN anchor Anderson Cooper while Cooper was in a relationship, and as the tweets kept coming, they seemed to get more ludicrous and offensive, anything from calling himself, “the biggest f*ggot I know”, to claiming a love for feet and wanting straight men to perform oral sex on him. But people still believed he’d been hacked, but then suddenly a periscope video with his mother Darlene appeared which confirmed that everything that had been tweeted so far had in fact come from Piane. The tweets kept coming over the next few hours and days, descending further and further into chaos after he openly claimed the Obamas and Clintons were murderers and that both Bill and Hillary were paedophiles and that Barack Obama was gay and his own body and nearly everyone on earth was infected with brain-controlling parasites and he recommended bathing in bleach and also drinking small quantities of it to combat them. He posted various videos showing sores on his face and hands, saying these were where the parasites were leaving his body.

The fans were starting to grow concerned for his well-being and Piane even claimed that Perez Hilton had sent the police around to visit him but that there was no cause for alarm, but still, the worrying behaviour was continuing, and the continued attacks against people voicing their concerns. He claims he is just telling the truth on matters and that it’s unfair people are attacking him, while still insulting people himself.

Sadly the social media has since gotten considerably worse, with Piane not only sharing private messages between him and his family who allegedly didn’t invite him to thanksgiving dinner while also calling his mother a c*nt. He is also saying that black people should embrace the N word (while using it himself) and that in order for people to get along, the Jews should just get over the Holocaust, while also simultaneously claiming Hillary Clinton is a hermaphrodite (as well sharing a picture of his own nether regions) and that Michelle Obama is committing sexual assault against her own daughters.

But what is going on? Why is Lucian Piane acting this way? Accusations of drug use and mental health issues are plaguing the songwriter, and in what appeared to be a moment of clarity earlier this month, Piane claimed he was on the anti-psychotic medication Seroquel, and that it had been affecting him. Seroquel is known to have some serious side effects and in some cases, it can make people worse, and if it’s true he is indeed on the medication, he needs to change it fast. Others have pointed out that the aforementioned facial and hand sores are a classic sign of continued Methamphetamine use. I personally don’t want to speculate as to what is going on, but whatever it is, it is worrying to see someone so talented and respected go down such a calamitous route on social media. He seems utterly oblivious to what he is posting, whether it’s because he simply doesn’t care, or that he’s gone so far down the road of mental health issues that he doesn’t understand what he’s doing and why people would be so worried.

Quite how his accounts are still active at the time of writing is beyond me because Twitter and Instagram take a stance on bullying and offensive language and have suspended or banned people for less than what Piane has been posting.

It remains to be seen what effect this will have on his career. He has stated that he pulled out of being on Season 9 of Drag Race before it was filmed earlier this year. How true it is that he left of his own accord is in question. But unless something is done about his current behaviour, it’s unlikely he will return anytime soon to the Drag Race panel or work with RuPaul again.

Strangely, RuPaul himself has remained resolutely silent on any matters concerning Piane, declining to issue any statements or even respond to any tweets mentioning his songwriter.

Jeremy Clarkson: James May and Richard Hammond are married!
Jeremy Clarkson has joked that his co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond are married and that he was a guest at their wedding party and even joined them on their honeymoon.

Okay, just so you know James May and Richard Hammond, the co-host of Amazon’s Grand Tour along with Jeremy Clarkson aren’t married, but that’s what Jeremy has claimed after he got bored with endless questions from journalists about the brand new flagship show for Amazon.

According to the Daily Star, to try and combat the tedium of press junkets Jeremy started to embellish his answers and even told on New York journo a whopping fib.

At one press conference in New York he alleges he was asked why he was in NY… Always the joker, Jeremy told him:

“I was a guest at James and Richard’s honeymoon.

According to Jeremy the journalist duly wrote that down as fact in his notebook.

Of course, in real life James May is in a relationship with Sarah Frater who he’s been dating since 2000 and Richard Hammond has been married to Amanda Etheridge since 2002. Neither of them identify as gay or bisexual.

ON THE PROMOTIONAL TRAIL

Complaining about his promotional obligations for the Amazon show Jeremy revealed,

“I’ve spent the past month on the promotional trail.

“It’s a brutal cocktail of complicated hotel rooms, shouty airport security staff and indigestion from gobbled dinners, all topped off with a never-ending array of mostly idiotic interviews.”

Well Jez, those are the breaks…

Jennifer Saunders calls time on AB FAB

Oh no Sweetie. Jennifer Saunders says Ab Fab has run its course…

Say it isn’t so. Jennifer Saunders, 58, says she’s not planning to write any more of the hit comedy series that made her a gay icon to a legion of fans. The show, which has run for five seasons and enjoyed a box office hit, which racked up £30 million, this summer, will be laid to rest after Jennifer said that she wants to spend more time with her family. The star spoke about how she is done with the show and has no plans to do any more episodes. The first programme was broadcast on the BBC in 1992 and there have been numerous specials and feature-length episodes, including The Last Shout and Boyfriend, which starred Whoopi Goldberg.

She explained to Event Magazine,

“I’m not doing anything more with Ab Fab. That. Is. It. “I can’t see the point of doing anything else with [Ab Fab]

However fans of Jennifer may have a glimmer of hope as the comedian has said that there’s other things she’d like to try post AbFab. She said,

“‘It just takes so long. There’s lots of other stuff I’d like to do. Plus, I’d like to spend time with my grandchildren.”

COLUMN | Gay fashion… Trying too hard or Too hard to Try?

Fashion & the modern man: Working hard or hardly working?

Let me start by saying that until about 4 years ago my dress sense was at best, questionable. So what I say now is everything I’ve learnt from then and from my modern day dress sense (which I’m informed I do have some dress sense – hurrah!).

We are told via various media that we need to be fashionable. Buy this season’s trends, keep up with the ‘new black’ and only buy labels that mean something. But is this high of fashionista hard to achieve? Well to those on the outside looking in, like me once upon a time, yes it probably is. Such high fashion seems an expensive waste of money when there are far more practical things you could be spending your money on. (For example, Gin…!).

But perhaps you can have your gin and drink it! (See what I did there?).

I recently frequented a trip to a local ‘cheap’ fashion retailer and went to see if they had a new suit (I had an interview, it didn’t go well, but that’s another story). I ended up wandering around their men’s section just having a peruse of what I could find. I ended up buying a few things that I didn’t expect.

So right now as I type this very column entry I am wearing one of these said purchases. My outfit consists of Black jeans, White Adidas trainers, a white t-shirt and a light grey ‘mandigan’ (male cardigan). All day I’ve had compliments on how great my outfit looks. Personally, I thought I was slumming it but apparently not.

Now that either means that my normal standard of dress for the office is so bad that people spot when I actually get it right (a possibility) or actually it was exceptionally good and worked very well for ‘dress down Friday’ in the office.

Now in total, including the trainers, I’d say this outfit cost less than £30 (and yes I bought the Adidas in the sale – I do loves me a bargain) so it is possible to get an outfit that is ‘socially on point’ for under £50.

So while yes the lovely branded stuff is fabulous (and I’ll always buy stuff immediately after watching Devil Wears Prada) actually achieving a fashionable look without breaking the bank is indeed possible.

50 years on since the decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK, Hull will be hosting the first national LGBT+ UK Pride event, having been awarded the honour earlier this year. This new annual event will be awarded to different towns and cities across the UK each year and is hailed as the UK’s newest and largest Pride Party that’ll attract thousands of LGBT+ people from across the UK.
