  • Netflix Reunited Fonda And Tomlin Over Gay Husbands

    Netflix has just released a trailer for a brand new comedy series about two women in their 70s who are left single when their husbands both come out as gay.

    Reuniting the totally fabulous LILY TOMLIN and JANE FONDA who had previously starred together in the hit movie 9 to 5 who now play Grace and Frankie whose lives are left dangling when their husbands (played by Emmy Award Winners Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston) declare their love for each other.

    The 13-part series that that is tipped to be one of Netflix’s biggest successes to date was created by ‘Friends’ creator Marta Kauffman,and is expected to air later this year, but no release date has so far been set.

    P.S. 2015 could prove to be a big year for Lily Tomlin as she also stars in Paul Weitz’s movie GRANDMA that was one of the biggest hits at Sundance Film Festival in January. Playing a lesbian on the screen for the first time Ms. Tomlin gives one of the best performances of her career in this darkly funny and also touching film of one long day in the life of one very frayed family. Due in our cinemas later this year.

    ★★★★★ | The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson

    I think it says a lot about me as an individual that my attention span in these social media days seems to have dwindled to the point where if it’s more than 140 characters, I get bored.

    I have a stack of great books waiting to be read, or started and tossed aside as one thing or another distracts me.

    That is until this book dropped through the letterbox.

    I honestly can’t remember the last time I relished an authors words so much, felt so deeply in-volved in the plot, felt it resonate on a personal level – basically, found that rare thing, a truly un-put-downable book.

    The storyline is one we can all understand to some point – the slightly kooky outcast group, not the A-crowd, but individuals who have their own voices. Think a good John Hughes film (Pretty in Pink, etc) Bullied at school? Tick.Small group of geeky friends? Tick. Fancy someone you can’t have? Tick. Odd family life? Tick.

    The list is endless, but Lisa Williamson, the book’s author, has the talent of drawing you in and making you feel this book could be about you (in a general sense) without detracting from her own storyline or making any of it seem trite or generic.

    Putting it bluntly, she makes you feel you belong to this story – and a bloody good story it is too.

    In a nutshell, it’s about 2 boys and their lives as they grow and meet. One is a troubled teen, shift-ing from school to school, not much of a family life, not much of a home, no real friends. The other is from a good family, good home, but has a deep secret and deals with it as only teenagers can, and do, daily.

    David Piper has the secret, he wants to be a girl. He’s obsessed to the point of writing everything down in his book, from his penis size to how visible his Adam’s apple is, all in the name of not wanting to look like a man.

    Leo Denton wants to simply be invisible. However, his first few days at his new school ensure that this is going to be impossible.

    After Leo stands up for David against the school bully, an unlikely friendship begins to form and grow – but the secrets they all have are about to come out and things will never be the same.

    This book isn’t another teen drama; it looks at the subjects it covers sensitively but also with humour. The subjects covered aren’t simple, and on some level may have been felt by most of us – being an outsider, wanting to belong, wanting to be invisible, fear of bullying, fear of our families, lack of friends… the list is endless but Lisa tackles these themes so well.

    If you are looking for a good holiday read, pick this. It’ll make you laugh, it’ll make you cry, but it’ll never bore you!

    The world is constantly changing and we’ve learned things about Joey Essex and Sue Perkins we never thought we would, and divorce is not what it used to be.

    1) Divorce Papers can now be served on Facebook, in New York (Daily Mail)

    2) The Tories have clocked up the most miles to get you to vote for them. David Cameron has flown, trained, bussed and been driven over 3000 miles to the four corners of the UK. Lib Dems have travelled 1,900 miles while Labour and UKIP have clocked up 1,400 miles. (read more BBC)

  • White House Releases Powerful Video About The Harm Of “Gay Cures”

    In the wake of President Obama’s historic statement this week speaking out against gay “conversion therapy”, a group of White House staffers led by Amanda Simpson, Executive Director of the U.S. Army Office of Energy Initiatives, and the first openly transgender woman Presidential appointee ever, created a video to discuss the dangers of this harmful practice.

    Also on the video are some of the President’s most senior advisers including Valerie Jarrett and also Megan Smith, Chief Technology Officer of the United States and Douglas Brooks, Director of the Office of National AIDS Policy. In addition to this, the U.S. Surgeon General  Vice Admiral Vivek H. Murthy, M.D. released a statement today calling for state and federal action to protect minors from conversion therapy.

    “Being gay is not a disorder. Being transgender is not a malady that requires a cure. Had I been Leelah Alcorn’s physician, I would have told her exactly that. And that’s the message I want other doctors, nurses, health professionals, and public health leaders to help get out to parents and children who may be confronting these issues.”

  • Third Of Christians Will Not Vote Cameron Over Gay Friendly Stance

    A new survey has revealed that people who identify as Christian have condemned David Cameron’s statement that same-sex marriage was “among his proudest achievements in 2014”

    The poll by ComRes for Premier Christian Radio asked 2,000 potential voters what they thought about gay marriage and how it might affect their decision on voting Conservative in the next general election.

    More than thirty-three percent agreed with the statement, “I would have considered voting Conservative but gay marriage has put me off doing so”. The coalition government, led by David Cameron was instrumental in bringing forward same-sex marriage in his first term as prime minister.

    Same-sex marriage was legalised in England and Wales in 2014 in a landslide victory.

    80 per cent of those asked lambasted the Prime Minister’s statement that same-sex marriage was “among his proudest achievements in 2014”. The claim was made by  the Prime Minister during a Q&A in Wirral, when he said that same-sex marriage had a personal impact. He said, “I did get a lot of letters from men who said, because of the changes you made, I have been able to marry the person I love. That was great.”

  • FILM REVIEW | 50 Shades Of Grey From A Gay Perpective

    ★★★★ | 50 Shades Of Grey

    Since its release in 2012 in book form, the Fifty Shades trilogy has been destined to hit the big screen; and this Valentine’s Day the first finally did, starring the delicious Jamie Dornan and beautiful Dakota Johnson as the leads, and a supporting cast, including Eloise Mumford, Luke Grimes, and pop ‘singer’ Rita Ora. All in all, the film was great if you haven’t read the books. If you have, prepare to be (ever so slightly) disappointed!

    The film, based on the novel of the same name, follows the story of Christian, a BDSM-made sex God played by Dornan, and Anastasia (“just Ana”) Steele, naive student of English Literature. from their first meeting at Grey’s workplace to Ana’s departure after being belted by the dreamy Christian Grey. Throughout the film, the relationships between the characters are explored; including Ana and roommate Kate, played by the radiant Eloise Mumford. The plot highly differs from the book, but still gets across a few key points.

    Despite following a straight relationship, the film is still to be enjoyed by the LGBT+ community. Although we don’t see much of Dakota and Jamie’s bodies, what we do see is sure to not disappoint! For the ladies, we have Ana undressing constantly, desperately, showing her lady bits. For the men, we have Christian’s deliciously peachy bottom shown sporadically throughout the film. The film also inspires new things for the bedroom for all couples – ranging from the use of floggers, not spontaneous fumbles in your garden shed.

    Most of the cast is pleasing, though. For me, Eloise Mumford’s portrayal of Kate Kavanagh is the best performance in the film. Luke Grimes does well in his brief appearances as Christian’s brother, Elliott – and also gives the film a sexy rugged feeling. On the down side, the casting of Rita Ora as his sister, Mia, is the most disappointing casting of the film. Her four lines would be missed if you moved.

    The film, which isn’t as good as its paper counterpart, can be enjoyed by all, and has many pleasing qualities, although many down sides feature, especially the fact that neither Ana or Grey have gay fantasies. The film is set to be released on DVD and Bluray on May 8, 2015, and can still be seen in a few cinemas.

  • Is Boy George The New Kim Kardashian?

    Boy George has just announced that not only is he moving from London to Los Angeles this summer but that he has signed up to make a reality TV docu-series chronicling his new life.

    It will cover him dating, house hunting, embarking on Culture Club’s North American tour, managing Brando, his pop group, launching a vegan food line and juggling visiting family members. The star has maintained a worldwide presence for the past 30 years, having sold over 100 million singles and more than 50 million albums as a performer and songwriter with 80’s super group Culture Club and as a solo artist in his own right. He is one of the world’s most successful and in-demand international DJs touring extensively across the globe.

    If Marge Simpson met Dolly Parton and went dancing with Ziggy Stardust, it wouldn’t come close to what you’ll see. Why now…why not? Why me…who else?”said Boy George.

    Boy George’s Manager Paul Kemsley and award-winning producer Cindy Cowan are developing the series on the star along with Bunim/Murray Productions the producers of Real World, Project Runway and Keeping Up with the Kardashians,

  • Mental Health Charity For LGBT+ Youth Boosted By £120K

    Greenwich-based METRO has received nearly £120,000 from the City of London Corporation’s charity, City Bridge Trust, to boost its London-wide mental health programme for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ) young people.

    Established in 1984, METRO runs community and youth services and is one of London’s few specialist providers of emotional and mental health support to the LGBTQ community. It promotes health, wellbeing, equality and participation through one-to-one counselling, group therapy and assessment, and referral services.

    The charity faces increased demand for mental health services and its Youth Chances research found that 44 per cent of LGBTQ young people have contemplated suicide, while 52 per cent have self-harmed and 42 per cent sought treatment for anxiety or depression.

    Dr Greg Ussher, METRO Chief Executive said:

    METRO is delighted to receive this funding from the City Bridge Trust. The findings from our Youth Chances research and the demand on our existing mental health programme show just how vital this funding is to enable us to support so many more Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ) young people across London. This investment from the City Bridge Trust gives LGBTQ young people direct access to the essential services when they need them and will save lives.”

    Jeremy Mayhew, Chairman of City Bridge Trust, said:

    Negative attitudes towards these young people make them more likely to experience higher levels of mental health distress than their heterosexual peers. Understanding their needs and providing accessible services during a difficult time in their lives, is vitally important. At City Bridge Trust, we are committed to supporting Metro Centre in breaking down barriers, removing stigma and improving mental health.”

    City Bridge Trust is the grant-making arm of Bridge House Estates, whose sole trustee is the City of London Corporation. It addresses disadvantage by supporting London charities, providing grants totalling around £15 million annually.

  • And Madonna Tries Her Hand At Stand-Up

    God loves a trier and Madonna is certainly that.

    Looking sensational, gay icon, Madonna tried her hand at stand-up comedy on The Tonight show starring Jimmy Fallon.

    The Ray Of Light singer had the show’s in-house band in stitches but failed to really get the audience behind her. The stint which saw Madonna talk about her love of younger men comes after recently admitting to Jonathan Ross that she would like to try stand-up comedy. At one point she jokes about asking her son Rocco if he had any school friends she could date.

    At the end of routine, she asks Fallon, if she “has a future” in comedy – we’ll let you be the judge.

    Watch this first promo of Bruce Jenner’s interview with the the former Olympic star turned reality star Bruce Jenner.

    The two-hour interview with veteran interviewer Diane Sawyer is set to air on ABC in the US on the 24th April. The 23-second clip doesn’t reveal much except to say that Jenner will talk about “the journey” and “the decisions” and “the future.”

    There has been much speculation on Bruce Jenner’s possible transitioning, Jenner has yet to talk publicly about it.
