  • Donald Trump “erasing” LGBT people from history

Donald Trump is “erasing” LGBT+ people from history as he removes sexuality from the 2020 census.

The US’s 2020 Census will not include a question which allows people to identify their sexuality or gender identity. This means that no or very little LGBT data will be collected about the community, effectively erasing them from the history books.

It could also have an impact on how the US government writes its laws and appropriately funds programmes which affect the LGBT community. The National LGBTQ Task Force has said, “We’ve Been Erased from the US Census and American Community Survey” and called it “another attack on LGBTQ people’s freedom, justice, and equity”.

Meghan Maury, Criminal and Economic Justice Project Director, National LGBTQ Task Force said,

“Today, the Trump Administration has taken yet another step to deny LGBTQ people freedom, justice, and equity, by choosing to exclude us from the 2020 Census and American Community Survey. LGBTQ people are not counted on the Census—no data is collected on sexual orientation or gender identity. Information from these surveys helps the government to enforce federal laws like the Violence Against Women Act and the Fair Housing Act and to determine how to allocate resources like housing supports and food stamps. If the government doesn’t know how many LGBTQ people live in a community, how can it do its job to ensure we’re getting fair and adequate access to the rights, protections and services we need?”

The National LGBTQ Task Force have started a petition demanding for the LGBT+ community to be counted and support the collection of sexual orientation and gender identity information in the Census, in the American Community Survey, in the National Survey of Older Americans Act Participants, and the Centers for Independent Living’s Annual Program Performance Report.

The move comes on the back of the White House’s official sites removing all traces of LGBT policy.

50 days on and Donald Trump’s White House still has no LGBT policy in place

Fifty-two days on and President Donald Trump’s administration still hasn’t put forward a coherent LGBT policy after removing the LGBT section on the official White House website.

Critics were dismayed when in January, the same day as Donald Trump’s inauguration the White House removed its LGBT policy page on the official White House website. The removal of key pages caused widespread concern about how America’s LGBT community would be treated by Donald Trump’s adminstration.

Fifty-two days on and the White House website still has no LGBT policy or information on its server. The administration has failed to put forward any coherent policies concerning the rights of LGBTs in the USA.

When users type in www.whitehouse.gov/lgbt they are greeted with a generic message thanking them for their “interest in this subject”. The page informs users to “stay tuned” as the website is updated.

The former site which was maintained during President Obama’s presidency outlined the administration’s position on equal rights, including ‘eliminating barriers to equality, fighting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, and engaging LGBT communities across the country.”

The page also provided links to anti-bullying and sexual health resources.

The site is just in transition as Trump’s own team looks to update information and bring forth their own policies. As with each new administration, the official White House website, Twitter and other social media accounts are all archived for history.

So far the current administration has uploaded policies on energy, jobs and growth, making the military strong, standing up for law enforcement and trade deals.

  • This artist has done something amazing with all of Donald Trump’s hate

This artist has done something amazing with all of Donald Trump’s hate

Manchester artist Conor Collins has created a painting which uses quotes from Donald Trump and it’s pretty stunning.

Using the President’s own words on women and race, artist Conor Collins has created a stunning picture of Donald Trump. In the past, the artist has created images from the homophobia leveled at Tom Daley when he first came out as gay and the transphobia hurled at Caitlyn Jenner, when she announced her transition.

Now the artist has put Donald Trump in his sights and told THEGAYUK.com that he had created a portrait of Donald Trump composed using the racist, sexist, ignorant and bigoted things he has said painted onto a wall of white washed dollars.

The rights of trans Americans have been officially curtailed after President Donald Trump‘s administration rescinded the guidelines about trans people’s bathroom rights, which were put forward by Obama during his second term.

The guidelines allowed for trans students to use bathrooms and changing rooms which match their current gender identity rather than the biological sex written on their birth certificates.

The White House stated that the previous guidelines did not “contain extensive legal analysis or explain how the position is consistent with the express language of Title IX, nor did they undergo any formal public process.”

Schools and the Supreme Court were told by letter on Wednesday that the guidance was changing.

Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary said that Donald Trump was “a firm believer in states’ rights and that certain issues like this are not best dealt with on the federal level.”

A spokesperson for the Campaign for Southern Equality condemned the action saying that “no child should be denied access to basic facilities or subjected to discriminatory treatment” and called the current Trump administration “reckless”

Despite the rollback, the letter will have no effect as the guidelines were blocked by the federal court after they were issued.

Rev. Jasmine Beach-Ferrara, Executive Director of the Campaign for Southern Equality said,

“The reality is that the protections of Title IX are still in effect for transgender students. We will fight every day to ensure that these protections remain in place”.

People love the way Caroline Lucas just dealt with Katie Hopkins

It’s probably fair to say that there’s no love lost between MP Caroline Lucas and Katie Hopkins.

Caroline Lucas took a swipe at Katie Hopkins that even Mariah Carey would be proud of.  Taking to Twitter, Caroline swiftly put Katie in her place after a Tweet which insinuated that Caroline only wanted to deny President Donald Trump entry from the UK because, “he’s straight and likes cheeseburgers”.

Katie told her Twitter followers that Caroline spoke for “vegan lesbians of Brighton” during a Common’s debate yesterday on whether an invitation to President Donald Trump to visit the UK should go ahead.

    https://twitter.com/KTHopkins/status/833781795934048259

Caroline was quick to correct Katie by saying,

“Lesbians. Vegans. Bi people. Gay people. Trans people. People of colour + everyone else! It’s Modern Britain @KTHopkins, get over it.”

    Katie couldn’t resist reiterating,

“You wanted to deny Trump a state visit because he is straight and likes cheeseburgers? Get a grip”

Caroline, who the MP for Brighton, simply answered,

    “U OK hun?”

  • You won’t believe how much Donald Trumps security is costing – everyday

Apparently, he’s the most expensive President of the United States… ever.

Unless you’ve been under a rock you will have noticed that President Donald Trump is getting a lot of attention – most notably for his travel restriction policy, which has seen travellers from seven Muslim-majority nations turned away at US airports. Then there was the leaked executive order document, which has not yet been enacted or verified as an official policy, but which threatens the very core of LGBT rights.

Well, now a new controversy is about to hit the news headlines, exactly how much Donald Trump is costing the US taxpayer for his security.

His security is costing a small fortune and he is apparently the most expensive President the US has ever had.

New information has revealed that he is costing $500,000 a DAY.

Sources told CBS2  that the security bill to protect Donald Trump and his family is costing New York taxpayers half-a-mil a day to keep Trump Tower safe.

The security bill for New York reached $35 million the weeks prior to his inauguration. New York has now apparently asked the federal government to reimburse the costs with the NY mayor pledging to send the bill to the White House.

Because of the First Lady Melania Trump’s decision to stay in New York whilst the couple’s son, Barron Trump, taxpayers will be forced to pay for two lots of hugely expensive levels of security.

A full year of protection looks likely to top $180 million.

It does look as though Melania will be leaving New York after the current school year ends for Barron, after Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, the senior adviser to the First Lady told ABC News.

  • George Takei has a warning for Donald Trump

Star Trek’s George Takei has a stark warning for Donald Trump if he signs an anti-LGBT discrimination order.

“My people protest HARD” is the war cry from George Takei this morning after it emerged that a leaked and unverified anti-LGBT executive order has surfaced. The EO would effectively end LGBT protections in the US as we know it. It could place religious beliefs over LGBT rights and equality. It’s an EO that would climb into almost every part of American gay, lesbian, bi and transgender people’s lives, from housing to the procurement of goods and even medical care.

The document, which has not been yet been verified, stirred George Takei into fighting talk. Taking to Twitter he said,

“If Trump signs that exec order authorizing LGBT discrimination in the name of religious freedom, he’ll regret it. My people protest HARD.”

The tweet has already been retweeted nearly 5000 times and has been liked 17,000 times.

The White House issued a statement earlier this week to say that Donald Trump was “proud to have been the first ever GOP (Republican) nominee to mention the LGBTQ community in his nomination acceptance speech”, the statement also pledged to “protect the community from violence and oppression”.

Left-wing political activist and columnist for The Guardian, Owen Jones has called on his fans to join him in protesting President Trump‘s ban on entry to the US for people from seven Muslim-majority countries, which some on social media are calling #MuslimBan. Owen is also protesting against the British Prime Minister Theresa May and her “silence” with regards to the policy.

Reaching out to his 525,000 fans on Twitter Owen called for an “Emergency protest against Trump’s and ‘s silence, this Monday”.

He is urging supporters to gather outside 10 Downing Street from 6:00 PM. So far 10,000 people on Facebook have said that they are going.

The controversial policy was announced by the Trump administration on Friday, 27th January. The 90-day ban applies to travellers who are citizens from seven countries including, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen and Libya.

The ban does not include travellers who have already got a green card.

Nearly 500,000 people have signed a petition calling on the UK Government to prevent Donald Trump from making a state visit to the United Kingdom. The petition will be considered for debate in Parliament and will get an official response from the Government.

  • Michelle Visage points out the HUGE difference between Obama’s Big day and Trumps

As inaugurations go, President Trump’s wasn’t the smallest in history, but as Michelle Visage has pointed out it certainly was no match for President Obama’s in 2009.

Hundreds of millions tuned in to watch the inauguration of Donald Trump, however, the turn out to watch the event live in Washington DC was well below that of Obama’s 2009 swearing in.  Michelle Visage was quick to share a shocking image showing the poor turn out, where huge areas of land outside the Capitol Building in Washington DC stand empty.

In 2009 Obama’s inauguration set a new record for attendees, although there is no official count. It was considered that over 1.8 million people turned up to watch the event. Donald Trump was unable to match the 44th President’s numbers or approval rating at the time of their respective inaugurations. Obama’s was 68 per cent. Trump’s is 37 per cent.

According to Washington DC’s own transport system passenger numbers were well down.

They tweeted that as of 11 AM on Trump’s inauguration 193,000 trips had been made compared with 513,000 on Obama’s inauguration in 2009. Even Obama’s second term swearing in had over 317,000 trips made.

Within hours of Trump becoming the 45th President, there was panic amongst some in the American LGBT community as the Whitehouse’s official website scrubbed it’s LGBT page, leaving users with just an empty white screen.

As the world was watching Donald Trump becoming president, tech teams at the Whitehouse.gov were removing some key pages on the website including the LGBT page that President Obama’s adminstation posted to assure the community on their committment to LGBT rights and equality.

Vistors to www.whitehouse.gov/lgbt are now greated with a clear white page with no writing.

Former Star Trek actor George Takei was one of the first stars to draw attention to the deletion.

One commentor on Twitter pointed out that the site’s adminstrators hadn’t removed the meta tags from the bio.

The site is just in transition as Trump’s own team looks to update information and bring forth their own policies. As with each new adminstration the official White House website, Twitter and other social media accounts are all archived for history.

So far the current adminstration have uploaded policies on energy, jobs and growth, making the military strong, standing up for law enforcement and trade deals.

  • Will Donald Trump dance with Caitlyn Jenner at his inaugural ball?

Apparently Donald Trump is being urged to dance with Caitlyn Jenner at his inaugural ball…

UNPOPULAR: The incoming president of the US, Donald Trump is very unpopular with the LGBT community. Will a dance with Caitlyn Jenner mend bridges?

In a move some are suggesting might prove that he is “in touch” with the LGBT community, President-elect Donald Trump is apparently being urged to dance with trans star Caitlyn Jenner.

Many LGBT advocates are fearful of the backward steps a Trump administration might mean for the LGBT community in the US over the next four years, with some fearing that gay marriage could be repealed once he comes into power. Trump has said that same-sex marriage is “fine” with him.

The Daily Mail is reporting that his advisors believe that a dance with one of America’s most visible trans stars could build bridges with the community.

REPUBLICAN BEAU: Caitlyn Jenner was a supporter of the Republican party before she transitioned. She is reportedly attending the inaugural ball, but not as an official invite by the President Elect.

Speaking to pagesix.com a member of the incoming administration said that image of Donald dancing with Caitlyn was a “brilliant idea”.

Richard Johnson reports that the Republican aide said,

“The image of Trump dancing with Caitlyn would send a strong message that he supports gay rights and trans rights,” the Republican said. “A picture is worth a thousand tweets.”

Caitlyn’s publicists hasn’t confirmed whether the star would be up for a dance… saying,

“Can’t deal in hypotheticals. We’ll just have to wait and see.”
