Police in London are looking for witnesses following on from alleged homophobic abuse at a football match at the London stadium.

Homophobic chanting was heard from a number of individuals during the match in the Sir Trevor Booking Stand at The London Stadium. It is believed to have involved home fans.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or can provide detectives with video footage is urged to come forward.

Inspector Matt Ashmead from the Met’s Public Order Investigation Team said, “We take allegations such as these extremely seriously and will act accordingly to any information brought to our attention. We work in partnership with the club and the stadium safety team to identify those who commit hate crime at football and we will take robust action against them.”

    Arrests Made

Mr Ashmead continued, “With the assistance of law-abiding fans this weekend we were able to identify and arrest two individuals who were obtusely shouting homophobic abuse towards other supporters during this game. We welcome any further information or footage that would supply further evidence, or identify other offenders.

“Behaviour like this is completely unacceptable and perpetrators will be held accountable for their actions, so that the majority of law-abiding fans can enjoy a football game without the minority ruining their experience.

    Second Match This Year

This isn’t the first time the police have made a call for witnesses to homophobic abuse heard at a football match. Last week officers were appealing for witnesses and footage after a match official at a Millwall v Reading match was subjected to homophobic abuse.

“If you have any information or footage to support our investigation please call us on 020 8246 9386 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Twitter users are now questioning whether an account which was purportedly run by a UK Championship footballer, who was primed to come out as gay, was all a hoax after the account mysteriously disappeared from Twitter.

The account which has been followed by well over 48,000 people is no longer available to view and all the Tweets have been deleted. The account had followed over 1400 people, including all the major LGBT+ news outlets.

For weeks the account holder had said that he would come out as gay, becoming the first footballer to come out as gay, whilst still in contract since Justin Fashanu in 1990.

The account holder originally set the date of 24th July to reveal who he was, however the night before he was due to officially come out a message was published which said, he didn’t feel strong enough to come out.

Disappointed Twitter users are now questioning whether the account was a hoax.

He went on to say, “I’m not strong enough to do this. Just remember that I’ve got feelings, without coming out I can’t convince anybody otherwise, but this isn’t a hoax. I wouldn’t do that”.

On the 21st July the user simply tweeted, “24.07.19 ?️‍?” – believed to be a signal as to when the player had planned to come out officially. The account has been active for weeks, in his profile he has his description set to: “I’m a professional footballer, currently playing in The Championship. I will reveal my identity soon, but I am a PROUD gay man”.

Scores of people have commented on the post with a mix of people calling the account a “hoax” while others reamained encouraging, with one saying “You CAN do this, goddammit! I came out in the south in the USA in the late 90’s. Was called horrible things, list friends. Life is AMAZING today! We, as Gay men have a responsibility to young people! We MUST end the shame! You are VALID, ENOUGH, STRONG! Rooting for you!!”

An unnamed, UK championship footballer has set a date when he plans to come out – becoming the first high profile footballer, still playing, to do so in nearly 30 years.

He’s become a bit of Twitter sensation, but the unnamed footballer, has set a date to become the first out, and still contracted, UK footballer since Justin Fashanu in 1990.

As of yet, nobody knows who the account is run by, but it is thought that the footballer is a high profile player for one of main clubs in the Championship. His account now has tens of thousands of followers.

Speaking about his decision to come out, the player said that he hopes his coming out will be a “catalyst for change”  saying, ‘I am thinking of those involved in professional football who are similarly positioned. My hope is that they can take comfort and hope from such disclosure and can feel suitably empowered to, if desirable, reach the same decision.

“I have heard from numerous people who have stated that their sexuality stopped them from being involved in football. That they didn’t believe the two could co-exist.

“I don’t want anybody in the future to feel that way, and with the work being done throughout the sport. I hope this can be the catalyst for change.’

  • Pro footballer comes out by introducing his boyfriend on Instagram

Pro footballer comes out by introducing his boyfriend on Instagram

    Cool AF

Former pro footballer Matt Pacifici has come out in peak 2019 style. With an introduction to his boyfriend on Instagram.

Matt is a former player for the Columbus Crew team in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.

In the simple post on Instagram to his 6300 fans he wrote, “What do you mean “I didn’t tell you?”

The 25-year-old sportsman had career in the major league but sadly sustained a major head injury during his first season and it ended his professional career.

In an interview with OutSports.com, the player said that he feared that coming out sooner would have damaged his career further after suffering the head injury.

He said, “Playing the part of the straight professional athlete was much more important to me at the time than being true to myself,”

However since then he changed his mind adding, “When you’re in a relationship that makes you happy, and on social media you see people posting about their girlfriends, it feels weird not being a part of that

“You want them to know. This relationship is the one that makes me the most happy ever in my life. The more people who come out, the easier it will be for other people to follow.”

He follows in the footsteps of Robbie Rogers and Collin Martin for being some of the only out professional players.

  • This pro footballer has just come out as gay

Slowly the closet doors that lead to the sportsfield are being swung open.

Twenty-three-year-old Collin Martin has just come out as gay, wrapped in a pride flag. Amen to that. He becomes the second Stateside pro footballer to do so. Robbie Rogers was the first in 2013.

He made the announcement via Twitter.

He wrote, “I am announcing for the first time publicly that I am an openly gay player in Major League Soccer,

“June is Pride month, and I am proud to be playing for Pride, and to be playing as an out gay man.”

Collin plays for Minnesota United for two seasons. Before that, he played for DC United. He is a midfielder.

Despite this great news, the UK has yet to see an openly gay player come out. There are concerns that football players are scared of the consequences of coming out as gay. There are also concerns about the level of scrutiny they may receive. British tabloids have run numerous stories of a Premiership footballer who is on the cusp of coming out as gay or bisexual.

In 2015 a betting site even opened odds on who the first footballer to come out as gay would be.

  • Guess which country in the World Cup is swinging the biggest package

Guess which country in the World Cup is swinging the biggest package

World Cup fever is officially upon us and we’re finding ourselves casually enjoying the sight of 11 men running around a field, hugging and kissing each other.

Who is the biggest on the pitch?

Plus, sometimes you get to see what we’re calling the Louis, (that’s the no-undies-jiggle). Why do we call it the Louis – check out why here.

Anyway, the World Cup is basically just one big sausage fest with a leather ball thrown into the middle of it. It got us wondering, which nation has the biggest package.

    Pure thoughts. I know.

Luckily the good people at Hims made us a chart. It’s easy to read, print out and laminate. Apparently, according to Hims, this is so fans can compare players, tactics and well a new stat – their penis size.

So from the 32 qualifying nations, it seems that the guys in Columbia are the monsters on the field, with an average whopper which measures 6.7 inches followed by the lads in Iceland, which inches in behind on 6.5 inches.

We have no word on how Hims measured these stats, but we’re totally engrossed. We haven’t studied this hard since Home Economics GCSE.

So who was at the bottom of the table?

Coming in last was Japan, who measured at 4.3 inches and South Korea who measured at 4.6 inches – which is not to be sniffed at.

    We’re no size queens here.

So where did England fit? British lads come 23rd in the line up with an average of 5.5 inches – sandwiched between Poland (5.63 inches) and Spain (4.45 inches). Dreams.

Check out the measuring up table below.

Now you’ll be able to watch the matches, armed with that little extra info you need.

Knowledge is power people. Knowledge is power.

  • COMMENT | The Only Goal Football Needs is to Support its LGBT Players

Newspaper The Sun has reported that a premier league footballer has ‘paid to keep his male lover quiet’.

There is almost always talk of a footballer being gay. In 2018, we still don’t have a premier league footballer that is out and proud. Of course, there are some footballers that have announced their sexuality, but it comes after retirement when they’re no longer at the top of their game.

    And that’s a problem.

According to The Sun, the premier league star who has not been named, offered to pay his fashion worker lover to keep quiet. The sum offered is rumoured to be £10,000. The Sun goes on to say that the footballer in question has a child with a female partner, and is bisexual. The male lover in question is said to be a 21-year-old fashion worker, who has also remained anonymous.

Instead, the 21-year-old chose to speak anonymously to raise awareness of the continued homophobia and taboo surrounding male football players. He has said: ‘It isn’t the players that are the problem — although he is guarded with who knows. It is because of the backlash from the fans that he is terrified of it coming out.’

The football player has reportedly told close friends, some of who are footballers themselves, and has been greeted with support, but he is terrified of the fans, of the heckle calls being shouted from the stadium.

In 2018, should we not be more focused on the ability of a footballer’s talent to score goals, to win for their team, than their sexuality?

Unfortunately, whilst that is what we should be focussing on, it seems fans have another agenda. In a 2013 dossier, Brighton fans reported hearing these chants: ‘You’re from a town full of gays and we hope you all die of AIDS.’

It doesn’t make ‘juicy gossip’ to hear of a male footballer coming out as gay. I’ll admit, it is interesting, and it’s natural to want to know who that man is. But the pressure he must be under tells us that forcing him out is wrong. Instead, the attitude towards gay men on the pitch needs to change.

It isn’t as though that isn’t happening. In 2013, the first LGBTQ fans group for a major football group – in this case, Arsenal – was set up. Since then, there are more than 30 LGBTQ groups offering support to both fans and in the closet football players.

Meanwhile, Welsh Rugby player Gareth Thomas, who came out as gay after retiring from the sport, said that if a footballer were to come out today, they would be ‘walking into the unknown’.

Whilst the FA are maintaining they are encouraging their players to ‘be themselves and support their teammates to do likewise’, we are still lacking any prominent out and proud football players that are still at the top of their game.

The problem, of course, is not with the footballer player themselves. They are surrounded by men who are telling them to conform, to play the game and are idolised by men all across the world. In some countries where these footballers play, it is illegal to be gay, with some countries allowing a death penalty. Whilst not all of the football audience are homophobic, trolling chants about gay men can appear to be incredibly daunting. Surveys have shown that three-quarters of football fans don’t care if a player is gay or bisexual.

What is also the problem is no one wants to be first. Peter Tatchell, a gay rights campaigner, said: ‘To allay the anxieties of individual players, the Professional Footballers Association should organise a simultaneous coming out by several stars. That way, no single player would have to deal with the media and public reaction. There would be safety in numbers.’

With rumours in the past linking Ashley Cole to another player, a rumour he distanced himself from publicly and assuming the player in recent reports is someone entirely different, there would, of course, be enough players to come out together. The problem with this happening is internal struggles.

We live in a society where an open, gay football player would be what we need. An influential man with a following of both straight and gay football players would really do wonders. LGBTQ groups would feel included, and awareness could be raised to the industry of football as a whole, and the problems that need to be dealt with and overcome.

It’s easy to say that a footballer should lead the way in coming out, but it’s easy to forget the internal struggle of coming out.

  • Footballer “accidentally” flashes the entire world

    Free Willy…

You know what it’s like. Freezing cold, there’s a drizzle in the air, you’re wearing thin white short shorts and the world is watching.

What do you do? Yep, accidentally pull your shorts down exposing your Johnson to the world. Behind your manager of all people.

An unidentified Huddersfield substitute player managed to exposed his manhood to the millions of fans watching around the world – and all of this happened behind the back of the club’s manager, David Wagner.

The flash happened only for a split second, but eagle-eyed fans have been trying to identify the player, who seems to have a tattoo on his right thigh – and it seems as though he’s quite a sizeable player too if you get our drift.

  • COMMENT | Do we really live in a world where you can be gay in a football game, but not in real life?

The computer game, Football Manager is to feature gay players. I find this one of the most refreshing and liberating moves of 2017.

Although it also angers me that it’s taken until 2017 for it to happen. And it’s so shocking that modern male British football is still waiting for its first openly gay player.

I find it incredibly weird that homosexuality still seems to be a problem in football. It’s absolutely crazy that in this day and age, we are still in a world where people can’t be themselves.

I’m hoping this computer game will be a massive boost in combating homophobia that stems from football fans. Especially the young teenage fans who will be playing football manager.

From what I’ve read about this game, I feel it will create a really a positive message. Yes, there are some amazing footballers who also happen to fancy men. Now let’s move on.

This is what shocks me. The statistic that 8 percent of football fans said they would stop watching their team if it had a gay player. WTF! That shocks me to my very core.

I’ve got a message for you 8 percent. I’m sure your teams won’t miss you or your homopnarrow-minded minded, bigoted support.

I look forward to the day when anyone involved in football feels 100% comfortable with sexuality. Of course, I’m not naive enough to believe that this computer game is the answer to the problem. But at least it’s a start in normalising homosexuality in football.
