  • Matt Lucas calls out two tabloids for inaccurate reporting

Matt Lucas calls out two tabloids for inaccurate reporting

The comedian took to Twitter to call out two of Britain’s leading tabloid newspapers for false reporting over Finding Neverland Michael Jackson tweet.

Back in February, Matt Lucas said, that Michael Jackson could “rot” after watching the forthcoming documentary film, Leaving Neverland about the alleged abuse of two boys by the late singer.

However, since that tweet, Matt has said that a handful of Jackson’s fans have harassed him, saying that he had even received a death threat by one sick person.

Both The Sun and The Mirror picked up the story, but inserted that Matt Lucas had called Jackson a “paedo”. A word that Matt never actually used in his original tweet.

Taking to Twitter Matt wrote, “I don’t know why but both The Mirror and The Sun have misquoted me. I did not call Michael Jackson a ‘paedo’ at any point.”

Leaving Neverland is going to be broadcast in the UK on the 6th and 7th March 2019 on Channel 4. The film, which will be split into two episodes, documents alleged abuse against two boys James Safechuck and Wade Robson.

  • The Sun demands that George Michael’s partner answers personal questions about their relationship

Journalists at The Sun feel that they have the right to quiz George Michael’s partner, Fadi Fawaz, with EIGHT personal questions about his relationship with the singer.

The Sun has launched an investigation into the private lives of Fadi Fawaz and George Michael, following the shocking death of the superstar on Christmas day. Fadi has self-identified as George’s boyfriend at the time of his death.

The paper has demanded that Fadi answers five (but it’s actually 8) questions including whether the photographer was in a relationship with George Michael at the time of his death.

Journalists Stephen Moyes and Nick Pisa insist in their article that they have “Five questions Fadi should answer” they include:

Did you know George was taking drugs up to his death? Who provided the drugs?
Did you really sleep in your car on the wintry night he died, and why?
Who hacked your Twitter account, and have you reported the problem?
Were you in a relationship with George when he died?
Why do friends of George accuse you of acting like a ‘leech’?

According to the article, Fadi refused to answer these questions.

The article suggests that these questions were posed by “pals of George”, but the paper doesn’t reveal the identity of these friends.

FADI FOUND GEORGE AND INCONCLUSIVE AUTOPSY

Fadi is reported to have found George on Christmas morning dead in his bed. It was reported that he was lying peacefully. A post-mortem examination on the body of George Michael was “inconclusive”. More tests will be carried out to determine the singer’s cause of death. His death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.

The star was found in his Oxfordshire home by his partner. He was found lying, “peacefully in bed”.

Fadi told The Daily Telegraph: “I went round there to wake him up and he was just gone. We don’t know what happened yet.”

THE SUN CRITICISED FOR ITS JOURNALISM

The Sun’s own readers criticised the publication over the line of questioning, with one saying,

“He doesn’t owe the sun or their ghoulish readership any answers.”

Another blasted the two writers of the piece saying,

“Stephen Moyes and Nick Pisa – Incredible!
With just one quickly vomited text you once and again prove for the world to see The Sun as the unique SCUM TOILET RAG that it truly is. And its garbage workers who should never dare to misappropriate the word ‘journos’ as an excuse for the vile human beings that you descended into.”

  • OP ED: Why Dan Wootton And The Sun Should Be Ashamed Of Themselves

OP ED: Why Dan Wootton And The Sun Should Be Ashamed Of Themselves

There seems to be a lot of people who are attempting to turn back the clock at the moment

Whether it’s one of my friends who has recently had her latest round of botox or the Conservative government trying to take us back to 1875, it seems we all want to relive the past. Then came The Sun and its journalist Dan Wootton, who are apparently trying to take us back to the 1980s with sensationalised, scaremongering articles.

By now I’m sure most of us will have seen The Sun’s recent front page, which claims a top Hollywood star has HIV.
“Hollywood HIV Panic”, the headline read, as if the article is a trashy Hollywood-made drama in itself. The Sun alleged that the famous man has been living with HIV for a number of years and has had a string of also famous lovers.

The article insinuates that the actor has been knowingly having sex with a number of women when he’s aware of his HIV status, and therefore could potentially be passing it on. In the article, The Sun also claim they have chosen not to name the star. How wonderfully considerate of them.

I have to admit that I thought to myself, where do I even begin with my takedown of this article and Dan Wootton?

The whole thing is so odious, and indeed Dan Wootton an odious creature, that I wanted to throw my laptop out of the window and bang my head on a brick wall. Let’s begin with the fact that regardless of this person’s fame, everybody has a right to privacy and confidentiality, particularly when it comes to something such as medical records. Running this story is an absolute invasion of privacy.
Then there’s the sensationalist, dated tone of the headline and article. It reverts back to the dark days of the 1980s. An article of this type can only help to reinforce the stigma around HIV. It takes a giant leap backwards in the fight to change attitudes and perceptions regarding HIV.

What The Sun could have done is ran a very informative piece about HIV, but instead they chose to cheapen it and spread vicious gossip that is hurtful to many people.

Overall I’m not really shocked that The Sun would run such a piece. I’ve long regarded them as a trash rag. What I am disappointed with, though, is The Sun’s showbiz journalist Dan Wootton putting his name to something so shameful.

I must admit that I have never been a fan of Dan Wootton. I believe he and his type represent what is wrong with the world. I have zero respect for someone who makes a living out of spreading gossip and rumours about people. However, I had assumed that as a gay man he’d have used his position to help rather than to hate. Clearly I was mistaken.

Upon seeing the article, I tweeted Dan Wootton to ask him if he thought it’s ok to spread hurtful gossip. I told him that he is contributing to stigmatising HIV and that he should be ashamed of himself. Many other people had also tweeted him, saying similar things to what I had. I didn’t expect him to reply, but I was surprised to discover that he has blocked me. I’m not the only one; many others have also been blocked by Wootton for calling him out on what he has done.

I can understand blocking trolls, but when people are asking genuine questions and aiming justified criticism at you, the best approach is to face it head on and be man enough to admit that you made a mistake. By blocking people and ignoring all criticism, Dan Wootton is burying his head in the sand and not taking any responsibility for his actions. This just makes him look even worse and gives the impression that he stands by the article.

What I’d like to see Dan Wootton do is apologise for what he has done and make an effort to do something more beneficial for those living with HIV. As it stands, he’s shown himself to be a truly appalling individual. He has betrayed people living with HIV and should absolutely be ashamed of himself.
Terrence Higgins Trust does amazing work supporting people living with HIV, campaigning and raising awareness. Please have a look at their website and show them some love.

  • The Sun’s Deidre Response To Man Who Had Gay Sex With Sis’s Hubby Gets TheGayUK Treatment

In a recent issue of The Sun, stalwart Agony Aunt Deidre gave some advice to a man who had recently been caught with his trousers down with his sister’s husband

The man was caught by his sister having sex with her husband, the reader expressed feeling trapped and having nobody to turn to and that his sister was distressed and that she wouldn’t talk to him again.
Diedre replied that his sister had been betrayed by two people she loved and trusted and that his actions were inexcusable, but he must make sure that the husband must take half the responsibilty…
We thought we’d ask some of our writers how they’d have tackled the problem.

    ALEX Da Silva (Birmingham Correspondant)

Impulse is a dark force that many succumb to, and sometimes it is uncontrollable. Human beings live day by day experiencing all sorts of instinctive outbursts, ‘do I get a dessert after that big main?’; ‘shall I hit the snooze button again, and make an excuse about the train being late, to get more sleep?’ and sometimes impulses drive our minds further where temptation is undeniable.

Looking at your case, this ‘itch’ appears to have been initiated by your sister’s husband, a step which would have taken a lot of courage to make. I have gone through something similar myself, and although the person who will hurt the most will be your sister, due to the fact that both men of her life have betrayed at once and together, there is an emptiness one feels to have been that person to cause such hurt and mistrust. I am sure that you are nice person, always paid your bills, and maybe have bought a Big Issue here and there, but society is very quick to coin people whose actions are of a negative nature.

However, your sister is your blood, and is a person that you could not live without. To get her back, you must give her that space, for every time you text, ring, visit her you are just taking her back to that dreadful moment, event of which wounded you all. Send a letter here and there about a memory you have shared together, send a card for her birthday and Christmas, but keep at that for now. It’s a gash so deep that unless you are a mutant with regenerative qualities, will take some time to heal.

In regards to your family, they are hurt too. It is going to take not as long, but the same care, of not trying to apologise or try to talk about that night, it should be periodical attempts at maybe conversing with your mother first, as she loves unconditionally and let her have her peace and work from there. She could really help you mend the bond between you and your sister.

Family ties are bound forever, and though there may be slashes and tears, you will work together to restore your home again. Just keep faith.

JORDAN Lohan (Food and Drink editor, Brighton)

I can imagine your sister’s world crumbling at the seams walking in and finding out that her brother is “the other woman”. Throughout your description of this hideous event, you don’t actually explicitly admit to being sorry or express any feelings of remorse or regret. You even have the audacity to reminisce about his touch being “electrifying”.

If you were truly sorry and understood the real implications of what you and the husband had done, it should make you feel sick and uncomfortable. “I feel trapped” is your final sentence and that sentence comes from a selfish place of wanting to help YOURSELF. Your sister is the victim here, not you.

I don’t think your relationship can ever be 100% salvaged with your sister, you fuc**ked her husband and you fuc**ed the trust between the two of you which should have been sacred and pure.

If i were your sister, I would want you to pipe down, go away, and get some counselling to delve into the reason why you warranted the sabotage of your and her relationship, and come back when you were truly sorry.

  • Katie Hopkins Has The Staying Power Of A Cockroach

Outspoken Celebrity Big Brother star Katie Hopkins has the staying power of a Cockroach.

Gay icon wannabe and generally outspoken former Apprentice turned Celebrity Big Brother star, Katie Hopkins has proven that she has the staying power of a cockroach after The Sun refuses to back down, keeping the controversial tweeter on staff, despite a growing petition calling for her sacking.

The star, who recently angered many after writing in her column about migrants, has been backed by her employer, The Sun, who have refused to edit or pull the controversial article. In the article Katie writes,

“NO, I don’t care. Show me pictures of coffins, show me bodies floating in water, play violins and show me skinny people looking sad.

“Make no mistake, these migrants are like cockroaches. They might look a bit ‘Bob Geldof’s Ethiopia circa 1984’, but they are built to survive a nuclear bomb. They are survivors.

“Once gunships have driven them back to their shores, boats need to be confiscated and burned on a huge bonfire.”

More than 100 official complaints have been written to the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) and over 230,000 people have now signed an online petition calling for Katie’s firing. She and the Sun’s editor, David Dinsmore have been reported to the police for incitement to racial hatred.

In the petition to The Sun, Izzy Saunders, who created the missive says,

“We live in a forward thinking society and Katie Hopkins’ views should not be encouraged; this is why I ask The Sun newspaper and editor David Dinsmore to remove Katie Hopkins as a columnist, at the very least to redeem yourselves from publishing this prejudiced article in the first place.”

Katie Hopkins is not alone in causing controversy and remained in position, even after huge public outcry. In 2013, a petition calling for the resignation of The Daily Mail’s Richard Littlejohn after he ‘monstered’ trans teacher Lucy Meadows, who subsequently committed suicide, racked up over hundreds of thousands of signatures.

  • The Sun features naked men on Page 3 for the first time

The Sun, the UK’s most read tabloid has made history today after putting naked men on its infamous page three. West Ham donated 9 of its players for the stunt.

Usually, the haunt of female glamour models, like Katie Price, The Sun has devoted today’s Page 3 to naked men for the Feel ‘Em Friday campaign, which aims to encourage men to check their balls for testicular cancer.

Nine West Ham players have gotten completely naked for the campaign. The paper said that the campaign was inspired by the Feel Em Tuesday campaign which encouraged women to check their breasts for early signs of cancer. West Ham players supported the appeal after one of the club’s former players Dylan Tombides died in April of cancer.

The paper has teamed up with Movember. Speaking on the partnership Sun editor David Dinsmore said: ‘Movember is a great campaign with a sense of fun and innovation that chimes perfectly with The Sun’s values.

‘We’re very happy to be partnering with the Movember Foundation to spread the word about checking for testicular cancer in the way we have done with breast cancer and Coppafeel! to great success’
