  • It’s the 12th night – so are you taking down your tree today?

So today it’s the 12th night after Christmas and it’s time to say goodbye to your lovely Christmas tree and decorations.

when should you take down your Christmas tree

It’s the 5th of January and it’s customary to take down the crimbo decs and dump the Christmas tree – or put it in the loft for another year. Some think that you should wait until the 6th when it’s the Epiphany.

So what happens if you don’t take down your Christmas decorations, well, apparently some believe a year of terrible luck will be visited upon you and your household if you don’t take your tree down on the 12th night after Christmas, but we think it’s more about making room for all those Valentine’s presents.

Did you know the Christmas tree is actually a Pagan Christmas origin according to Anthony Simpson a Pagan writer here at THEGAYUK, they saw evergreen as symbolic of the eternal cycles of nature: birth, life, death and re-birth. The re-birth always being seen as a result of the sun’s return. There are actually five things that the Pagans introduced which are now considered Christmas traditions.

  • A study finds that Male/Female WC signage could be replaced by room descriptions

A study finds that Male/Female WC signage could be replaced by room descriptions

A research team were granted £50,000 to study whether terms to describe public toilets were accessible. They’ve released their findings.

A research team from Sheffield Hallam University were awarded nearly £50,000 in June last year, from the Arts and Humanities Research Council to research the way public toilets are designed, “in an effort to assess if they are fit for purpose for the UK’s diverse 21st Century society.”

The paper , which was published last month, points out that school toilets are one of the first places where children learn that “disabled and queer bodies are out of place”.

The research is now complete and they managed to find some interesting ways of ensuring that people don’t feel left out or marginalised when using public facilities. The 7000-word report outlines how some respondents thought that changing the male/female icon with a description of the room’s content could be more helpful.

Education and Disability Studies researcher Dr Jenny Slater wrote,

” A suggestion from participants was to write on the toilet door the contents of the toilet cubicle, e.g. toilets with urinals, toilets without urinals, larger toilet with grab bars.

“Participants thought it was important for others to not judge people’s choice of toilet, but to allow people to use whichever space was accessible for them (‘accessible’ being used in the broadest sense of the word).

“This would mean critically considering the signage on toilet doors in order to understand how toilets do not just illustrate categorisation by gender, disability (and historically, race), but also actively produce such categories.”

Former soap star turned pop star Adam Rickett knows how to cure the thirst after uploading this hotel selfie revealing that he still has the six pack that made us all go weak at the knees during the 90s.

Speaking to THEGAYUK (issue 3) about how he manages to keep his body in a shipshape condition the 38-year-old star revealed, that he does all his training at home. He also told us that he has to keep his trademark six pack because of an issue with his back. He’s suffered from a chronic back condition since he was 17 and relies on a strong core to keep him mobile.

    He said,

“I do it all at home. I have a really bad back so from the age of 17 I had to exercise every day otherwise my back gets really knackered.

I always felt a bit of phoney, because everyone was like “oh my god look at his body” and I was like, well if I don’t I’m f**ked. I still do all the sit-ups and I’ve still got my six-pack.”

We Have Been Watching is the first UKTV Original of 2017 for Gold, which celebrates its 25th birthday this year.

    Celebrity Big Brother 2017

Some fans of the show are calling out Stacy Francis as “homophobic” after asking whether Ray J would be comfortable sleeping in the same bed as “the gay boy”. She was referring to Austin Armacost, who is openly gay.

The discussion was between housemates Coleen Nolan, James Jordan, James Cosmo and Stacy, who were discussing which bed each celebrity would take.

Apparently, US R&B star Ray J, who was asleep at the time when celebs were choosing beds, didn’t want to sleep in the same bed as DJ Brandon Block. The only other space available was bunking with Austin. On hearing the news Stacy asked,

“So [Ray J] didn’t want to sleep with Brandon? But he will sleep with a gay boy? The boy that wants to… the gay boy.

“Isn’t Austin gay? So [Ray J] okay with that?”

STUNNED: Stacy seemingly stunned her fellow housemates when she called Austin “gay boy”. She quickly said that she was being “sarcastic”.

The conversation went momentarily quiet before Stacy quipped she was being “sarcastic” and that everyone was “so serious”.

Well, needless to say, Twitter were right on it.

  • 7 things you probably didn’t know about Austin Armacost

7 things you probably didn’t know about Austin Armacost

So Austin Armacost is back on our screens, but what exactly do we know about the hunky Austin Armacost.

    Is Austin Armacost gay?

Yes, he certainly is and he’s definitely not ashamed of it. He recently broke up with his husband (Jake Lees) a relationship which lasted for 9 years and now he’s apparently back on the market. He’s even signed up to a couple of dating apps. Viewers of season 16 of Celebrity Big Brother were smittened by the bromance between him and the show’s eventual winner James Hill – although James is straight.

    What happened to Austin’s brother?

Viewers may remember him getting very emotional about his older brother. His older brother, Tyler was killed in a car crash. During his last time in the house, Austin found it tough going when one of the days fell on what would have been his brother’s 30th birthday. He died when he was 27. Speaking about his brother Austin said,

“He was such a good guy. You hope that life would be good, and calm, and peaceful, and when it’s time to go it’s time to go, but it just wasn’t his time to go.”‘

    What happened to Austin’s mother?

Viewers were shocked to find out that not only did Austin have to bury his brother but he “had to send” his mother to prison. Karen Armacost was jailed for stealing $681,000 from her former employer. During her trial, the court heard how she spent the money paying off credit cards. She was sentenced to 6 years in prison and three years probation.

    Does Austin get naked?

Yes, a lot. He’s an exhibitionist and why not. He’s on social media quite a bit showing off his muscles and he releases a calendar every year as well.

Did Austin Armacost date Marc Jacobs?

Before he met his husband Austin was the boyfriend of fashion designer Marc Jacobs. In a previous interview, Austin remarked that he wanted to be remembered for more than just being the boyfriend of a famous designer. He said,

“I don’t want to be known as Marc Jacobs’ ex-boyfriend. I want to be known as someone who stands on their own independently from that. Obviously it comes up because he is one of the world’s most famous fashion designers. I was 21 years old, and I drank too much I said some stupid things but it gave me this public profile that I was able to do some really good things with and I am very proud of what I have done since then.

How much is Austin Armacost worth?

CelebrityNetWorth.com has Austin’s net worth reported as $3 million. He will have made his money from appearing in reality series, his calendars and personal appearances.

    His Austin Armacost married?

WHITNEY: Stacy is said to have had an argument with the megastar Whitney Houston days before her death in a night club.

Revealing details about an argument that the X Factor USA star had with Whitney Houston, two days before Whitney died, she said that despite knowing Ray J for 15 years he didn’t stick up for her. Whitney died in 2012.

“When Whitney Houston’s sister Pat went on the Oprah show and said I was stalking Whitney Houston in the club, I was not, we were all standing there talking and having a good time, he knows that, he knows the events of the whole night.

“He never said this is a friend of my family. I’ve known Ray and his family over 15 years; he never came to bat for me. I wish he had the heart to say she wasn’t stalking Whitney in the club, she’s a friend. It was a hard time, I lost everything.”

Last night saw the songstress being “edited out” of the programme by the ‘all stars’ who became Big Brother’s producers for the night.

Speaking about resolving the bad blood between the two, Stacy said,
