It’s easy to see why this segment is both busy and keenly contested by all manufacturers. Just making a jumped up hatchback isn’t quite going to cut the mustard and as the French have their own mustard (poor pun I know) they have done a great job with this. 

There is plenty of storage and load-lugging capability is about on par for this segment. The problem being that the lumped up chassis leave the boot load sill rather high from the ground.
