  • Is it any cop? Eurovision 2012 UK Entry

Waiting with breath held, nervously cracking my knuckles, it’s a tense time at THEGAYUK gin palace. Until we heard that the Hump was going to be representing us in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Okay… here’s a quick quiz what links the following Eurovision entries with Engelbert Humperdinck.

Scooch, Gemini, Jade, Blue? Their combined ages equal the Humps. That aside, the song is a simple, timeless love song, with key-change. It could stand us in good stead. The last time the UK got anywhere near the top was with Jade’s simple, timeless love song — ‘It’s My Time’ — and both Andrew Lloyd Webber and Engelbert Humperdinck share the same face. It’s an omen. Gay science. So we could be in with a winner here

Jade’s song was a cracker and we loved the fact that she nearly took out one of the violinists during the live show, so we’re hoping that The Hump will go a step further a wipe out the entire orchestra.

Bitching aside (it is Gay Christmas after all) Engelbert is in good voice and with over 150m records sold the crooner certainly isn’t short of a few fans worldwide.

Currently standing 3rd in the overall betting odds to win it looks as thought the UK might be in with a chance of getting into the TOP 10 this year!

    Go Hump… Go Hump… (that’s a battle cry, not a mating call)

The unveiling of the Eurovision song for the UK is a special time in my life.

  • RIP: Donna Summer Defining Diva

Controversy aside, Donna Summer is one of the undisputed disco divas to grace the earth.

Donna Summer died on the 17th May 2012, Key West, Florida following a battle with cancer.

Although seen as a gay icon, Summer’s career took a blow when in the mid 80’s reports of alleged anti-gay remarks regarding AIDS which resulted in a significantly negative effect on her career. It is alleged that she said that AIDS was a punishment from God for the immoral lifestyles of homosexuals.(1)(2) Summers denied that she ever made such a comment and in a letter to ACT UP (an AIDS campaign group) in 1989 she said that it was:

“a terrible misunderstanding. I was unknowingly protected by those around me from the bad press and hate letters… If I have caused you pain, forgive me.”

Also in 1989, Summer told The Advocate magazine that:

“A couple of the people I write with are gay, and they have been ever since I met them. What people want to do with their bodies is their personal preference.” (3)

In 1991 Summers filed a lawsuit against NEW YORK magazine when it reprinted the rumours as fact.

However Donna’s lasting legacy is her infectious, upbeat and downright catchy tunes, which has had this writer dancing round his man-bag at many a disco.

  • Who Are The MPs Against Equality?

It’s pretty scary reading when you look at the list of supporters for homophobic and discriminatory marriage petition from the Coalition for Marriage (C4M).

Even more shocking when you discover that topping the list is a number of public paid positions such as MPs and those more revered in society like Earls and Lords. Yes, those icons of political society, we as enabled voters have chosen to represent us.

As news surfaces of some rather contentious campaigning policies (as reported by Pinknews and The Guardian & here) which include obtaining the signatures of students as young as 11 to sign this anti-equality petition, questionable “grassroots” beginnings and unaccountable spikes in signature numbers, we’re left asking what right-minded, forward-thinking, representative of people in the UK, in 2012, still want their name attached to the campaign.

World leaders, including Barrack Obama and David Cameron, have had their views ‘evolved’ on the issue of marriage equality. Now is the time for our community to step up and be heard. The coalition for marriage’s stance is:

“I support the legal definition of marriage which is the voluntary union for life of one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others. I oppose any attempt to redefine it.”

This is a purely legal issue, not a religious debate. Therefore those who are signed up below are actively working against legal equality for the LGBT community in the UK.

Below we’ve listed those MPs who have signed the petition and linked to their personal or parliamentary pages so you can send them an email or phone them with your concerns and ask that they consider removing their name from a rather embarrassing homophobic and discriminatory lobby.

We’re also starting a twitter campaign #MPsAgainstEquality Please forward this articles on Facebook and Twitter, using that Hashtag. Those people who are actively seeking to discriminate against the LGBT community should be named and shamed.

  • Amusing Site Of The Day Love Gods Way Gay Bands

Sometimes when trawling through the internet I take a detour into the rather pathetic minds of the bigots out in the world… That’s why I’ve decided to create Amusing Site Of The Day.

Today’s Funny Site Of The Day award goes to:

    http://lovegodsway.org/GayBands

This hilarious site, (no actually it’s hilarious) warns parents about the dangers of listening to GAY music from artists such as:

    P!NK

    COLDPLAY

    MICHAEL JACKSON

    JASON MRAZ

    QUEEN

    and BOY GEORGE

They recommend that you burn your kids CDs if they have any of the music on the “gay list” otherwise “the next thing you know you have a homosexual for a child”

Dammit gays! Stop making our children gay through your MUSIC. Which is very strange because most of the list aren’t even gay, lesbian, bi or trans. There is, however, an explanation for this:

“There are multiple levels of Gay Music. Some bands are what we like to call GATEWAY BANDS…”

    No, wait it gets better….

“They lure children in with Pop Grooves and Salacious Melodies leaving them wanting more…”

This is actual science. You can’t argue with these kinds of facts… You can’t make this kind of thing up.

Congratulations http://lovegodsway.org/GayBands for create a amusing site.

If you’re afraid that music might be turning you gay – feel free to email them:

lovegodsway.org@gmail.com tell them the TheGayUK sends love and gayness.

  • REVIEW: You F’Coffee? Up and Up The Rise of Pam Ann

Sitting in Business Class aboard this PAM ANN service to camp heaven, I was concerned that my inflight entertainment system (Caroline Reid) wouldn’t be able to deliver the high-quality broadcast I’m used to, however, I was every bit enchanted with PAM since the first time she tried to strip me…

As I arrived at the theatre to watch Pam Ann’s ‘You F’Coffee,’ I thought I was in the wrong building. The late great Astoria came to mind as hundreds of London’s gay glitterati swanned around, clinking champagne glasses and wearing t-shirts far too tight. Actually, the theatre was serving Champagne in Plastic, I know, the horror. The only thing missing from the old G-A-Y days was the smell of poppers and that feet-sticking-to-the-floor-ohmigod-what-is-that-I’m-stepping-in feeling.

Once seated and prepared for takeoff Pam enters the stage and certainly gives the audience what they want. She actually glows, radiance is my word du jour for Pam. Participation, crude and lewd language and anal jokes from wall to wall. It’s all rather marvellous stuff. I gave up counting the word c**t (and I mean that in an endearing way) after around 150 of the blighters projectiled out from the stage – mostly aimed at the second row of hoof clad British Airway’s hostesses.

It’s testament to Pam’s awareness and captivation of her audience that this act, which should be very limited in its subject matter has been doing the rounds since 1996 and yet there seems to be no faltering in the love for Ms Ann. Especially as she leaps from the stage and rub her bountiful bosom in an unsuspecting, expectant bear’s face. They love it of course. Any chance to be touched, groped or lushed upon by Ms. Ann is any gay’s dream, which I was to realize personally a few years back, when unannounced and quite early in the evening on an empty dance floor at Scala’s now-defunct Popstarz night in King’s Cross, Caroline, accosted, nay, molested me and began to strip me in the middle of the club. Now of course I’m far too much of a gentleman to go all the way – or she hadn’t ‘slipped enough E into my drink’ but the love affair had started. No woman has touched me like that. Before or since. Subtle and clever marketing, touching the lives of gay men around the world.

At times, the show felt as though it was nearly out of control with Reid, racing ahead of her own jokes, but ultimately, the overwhelming feeling is that she absolutely loves what she does and the audience loves her for it. I wouldn’t have minded if Reid had fluffed and f**ked up, because it’s in the unplanned and spontaneous that Pam Ann’s true genius shines through.

Pam Ann is a true gay icon. A f**cking class act (I know I’m swearing… even in Business Class) One dimensional – but fascinating, uncomplicatedly simple – but sublimely camp and after 16 years of Boeing 747 series 400 with… wingtips (thank you gays…) is keeping her audience quite literally lubricated.
