    What’s it like to drive the Jaguar F Type Rally Racer

    Along with Jaguar’s new F-Type ‘Chequered Flag’ limited edition run, Jaguar has also been busy turning 2 of their F-Types into rally cars and THEGAYUK were fortunate enough to be invited to have a play with the road going cars and trying this special build rally car.

    The F-Type isn’t really a suitable rally car, and why have Jaguar done this? 

    Firstly it’s all about putting some fun into the celebration of 70 years of sports cars at Jaguar that all started in 1948 with the XK120. The XK120 spawned a number of victorious wins and being an open-top racer, it answers the second question. And that is, why the hell not! It’s a nice homage to the open top winners.

    So what has been done to the road going sportster to make it a rally car? A number of things had been changed or altered and all in accordance with FIA approval. Instead of the usual 19” alloys, 16” rims with a more rugged 205/55 16 gravel tyre are fitted. 2” suspension lift with 60N/mm Eibach springs and three-way adjustable competition dampers.

    Usual things have been added like a 5mm aluminium belly pan, hydraulic handbrake and the removal of luxury items. No side windows, no roof, no fancy door trims. Instead, the inside it plain, basic and filled with an FIA approved roll cage and full 6 point harness. Weight wise, the removal of such items has been matched by the race-spec items added so it’s pretty much the same as a road going car.

    So what is it like to drive?

    As you can imagine, it’s an open car so you are very much at one with your surroundings in as much as mud gets kicked around and that mud gets you and the interior. There is most certainly no need to wear your Sunday best for this Jaguar. Just climbing in leaves you covered in mud.

    Engine and transmission are the same 300PS at 5500rpm delivering 295Ib.ft of torque from 1500rpm 2 litre Ingenium power unit mated to the standard automatic gearbox. The only difference is the final drive has been adjusted for a better 0-60 time and putting down the power to the limited slip differential at the back. You never get to top speed, but top speed isn’t what this F-Type is about. 

    No, indeed it is not. It is about swinging it around the dirt and going sideways. Thankfully we were not driving solo. Instead, we had 2 rally experts with us. Finland’s 9 times winning rally driver, Minna Sillankorva as co-pilot, offering advice (she taught me the perfect handbrake turn) and the UK’s own Jade Paveley in the pits.

    This was the first rallying I have ever tried and to be honest, it isn’t as easy at it looks. I also wasn’t going hell for leather but instead, as Jaguar had said, I had fun in celebrating this 70th year with Jaguar.

    Police in Manchester say that a 21-year-old man has been charged with robbery, possession of a knife and the stabbing of a man in his 20s after planning a meet on Grindr.

    David Aroge (17/09/1997) of Holden Drive, Swinton has been charged with three counts of robbery, three counts of possession of a bladed article and one count of section 18 assault.

    He has been remanded into custody to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court today, Friday 29 March 2019.

    At around 7 pm on Monday 25 March 2019, a man in his 50s was threatened in his own home in Irlam o’ th’ Height and around an hour later on Bury Old Road in Prestwich, a man in his 40s was threatened and held at knifepoint.

    On Tuesday 26 March 2019, a man in his 20s was threatened and stabbed repeatedly in his car on Bolton Road in Pendlebury.

    People are calling on the Commonwealth to intervene on Brunei’s gay sex death penalty

    As Brunei confirms it is to start using the death penalty for those found guilty of gay sex, people are calling on the Commonwealth to intervene.

    Brunei has confirmed that it is to use the death penalty for those found engaging in same-sex relationships and adultery from early April 2019. The kingdom has stated that it will use stoning to death as punishment for those found breaking sharia law.

    Brunei is currently part of the Commonwealth and people are asking it to intervene or make a statement condemning the horrific move by Brunei’s government.

    However, the head of the Commonwealth is her Majesty, the Queen, who has to remain politically neutral, so having her speak out against Brunei’s inhumane policy might be a non-starter.

    As it stands homosexuality is actually illegal in 35 of the 53 nations that make up the Commonwealth. There are two nations which currently have the death penalty for same-sex relationships between men. Northern Nigeria and Brunei. There are some countries which have a maximum of life in prison, these include, Bangladesh, Barbados, Guyana, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Uganda.

    A petition has been launched calling on Paul Scully MP, UK trade envoy to Brunei and Richard Graham MP, UK trade envoy to ASEAN (of which Brunei is a member) to publicly condemn these barbaric laws to make a stand against the barbaric punishment.

    Here are the 21 MPs who voted against adding LGBT+ inclusive relationship education for schools

    There are 21 MPs who voted against adding LGBT+ relationship education in schools.

    MPs recently, overwhelmingly voted on new guidance that would mean that British schools would have to provide compulsory relationship and sex education that includes LGBT+ relationships for all children in state schools. It’s the first time the guidance has been updated since 2000.

    There were 21 MPs who voted against the measure. Of the 21 MPs, who voted against introducing LGBT+ relationship inclusivity 12 were Conservative, 7 were DUP, 1 Labour and 1 Independent.

    The 12 Tory MPs are: Bob Blackman (Harrow East), Charlie Elphicke (Dover), Sir Christopher Chope (Christchurch), Sir Edward Leigh (Gainsborough), James Gray (North Wiltshire), Julian Lewis (New Forest East) Matthew Offord (Hendon), Marcus Fysh (Yeovil), Martin Vickers (Cleethorpes), Philip Davies (Shipley), Philip Hollobone (Kettering) and Ranil Jayawardena (North East Hampshire).

    All 10 of these MPs also voted against gay marriage in 2013. Some, who have been in office long enough also voted in favour of Section 28 back in 1988, including, Chope and Leigh.

    The 7 DUP MPs were Gavin Robinson (Belfast East), Gregory Campbell (East Londonderry), Sir Jeffrey Donaldson (Lagan Valley), Jim Shannon (Strangford), Nigel Dodds (Belfast North), Paul Girvan (South Antrim), and Sammy Wilson (East Antrim).

    The Labour MP was John Spellar (Warley).

    The independent MP was Fiona Onasanya, who was formerly a Labour MP but was expelled from the party after she served a prison sentence for perverting the course of justice, in January.

    Brunei introduces stoning to death for being gay

    Brunei is to introduce stoning to death as a punishment for homosexual acts and adultery from April.

    Homosexuality and adultery could land you a death sentence, via stoning, in Brunei, if you’re found guilty from April. Homosexuality has been illegal in the kingdom since British colonial rule.

    Instead of lengthy jail sentences for those found guilty of a raft of crimes, including homosexuality and adultery, Brunei will be handing out a death sentence. The new punishment of death by stoning, is set to become policy from the 3rd of April.

    The nation is set to introduce the horrific punishment as part of the implementation of sharia law and will apply to sodomy, adultery and rape. The law will only apply to the kingdom’s Muslim population which makes up around two-thirds of the demographic.

    Alcohol is banned in Brunei and there are punishments for having children outside of marriage. There is also a fine for missing pray on a Friday.

    Brunei is just one of 13 countries where being gay or being guilty of homosexual acts can still land you a death penalty.

    “Vicious”

    Amnesty Internation have called the punishment “vicious” and called upon Brunei to “immediately halt” its plans to introduce stoning.

    Rachel Chhoa-Howard, Amnesty International’s Brunei Researcher, said, “Brunei must immediately halt its plans to implement these vicious punishments and revise its Penal Code in compliance with its human rights obligations.

    “The international community must urgently condemn Brunei’s move to put these cruel penalties into practice.

    “Some of the potential ‘offences’ should not even be deemed crimes at all, including consensual sex between adults of the same gender.”

    What does Sharia Law say

    Sharia law is Islam’s legal system, derived from the Koran –

    • Informs every aspect of Muslims’ lives
    • Islamic jurists issue formal guidance through fatwas or religious edicts
    • Sharia law includes provisions for capital and corporal punishment but modern scholars say getting to that stage can be difficult
    • Marriage is treated as a contract in Islam

  • Man arrested in connection to Grindr attacks

    Man arrested in connection to Grindr attacks

    Officers have been investigating three separate attempted carjacking incidents that occurred after the victims engaged with a man they had met on the online dating app Grindr.

    At around 7pm on Monday 25 March 2019, a man in his 50s was threatened in his own home in Irlam o’ th’ Height by a man armed with a knife who demanded he hand over his car keys.

    Around an hour later on Bury Old Road in Prestwich, a man in his 40s was held at knifepoint by a man who again demanded his car keys.

    The victim suffered several cuts to his throat, back and forearm and was taken to hospital for treatment. He has since been released and is recovering at home.

    The following day (Tuesday 26 March 2019), the third victim, a man in his 20s, was threatened in his car that was parked on Bolton Road in Pendlebury.

    The alleged attacker, who was a passenger in the car during the assault, stabbed the man several times after demanding he hand over his car keys.

    The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains in a stable condition.

    A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and two section 18 assaults. He remains in custody for questioning.

    Man will be questioned by detectives

    Chief Inspector Amanda Delamore, of GMP’s Salford district, said, “We now have a man in custody who will be questioned by my team in the coming hours as our enquiries continue.

    “Our thoughts remain with the three victims who have all been left incredibly shaken by their ordeals and officers will continue to provide them with support at this distressing time.

    “Our investigation does not stop here and I would continue to urge anyone with any information that could assist us to please get in touch with police.”

    In a post 9/11 America, three friends go their separate ways to try to find both themselves and where they belong in society. Will stays in suburbia to try and make his relationship with his pregnant girlfriend work, Tunny joins the army and Johnny stays in the city to find friendship but finds a part of himself he never expected. But it doesn’t take long for the American Dream to come crashing down around them as they become increasingly disenfranchised trying to fit into a world where they don’t seem to belong.

    Based on the songs of pop-rock band Green Day, America Idiot presents itself as a sing-through rock opera, where the relentless barrage of songs tells the story and there is little room for any script. The show opens with the title song and, for the first act, literally doesn’t let up from there. Tom Milner (Waterloo Road) as Johnny is a charismatic lead with a performance brimming with cocksure swagger and confidence, whilst Joshua Downen portrays Tunny’s journey from angry young man to war veteran with subtlety.

    After exploding onto the stage, the first act is loud, bold, brash, rebellious, angry and exhilarating; and has an unyielding, in your face energy which carries the audience along for the ride, assaulting their senses and reverberating the bass guitar in their chest. However, the second act doesn’t maintain the energy of the first, and as they story grows very dark and the pace slows down, the show loses some momentum.

    America Idiot reflects a warts and all portrayal of a recent time in American politics and a biting attack on a divided society which will be recognisable to angst ridden teens; whilst Green Day’s music continues to speak to a generation and still maintains relevance in today’s current political climate.

    America Idiot is at the Sheffield Lyceum until 30th March 2019 before continuing on its national tour. The show contains adult themes and strong language.

    Someone is targeting gay men on Grindr, attacking them and trying to steal their cars

    Police are continuing to investigate after three men were attacked by a man they began speaking to on the Grindr online dating application.

    In each of the three incidents in or around Salford, Manchester, the offender also unsuccessfully attempted to steal the victims’ cars.

    The incidents are being treated as linked and police believe the same man is responsible for each of the crimes.

    A CCTV image has been released of a man police want to speak to in connection with the attacks.

    As well as appealing for potential witnesses, officers are directly appealing to users of the Grindr app who may have encountered the man pictured, or fallen victim to someone they met on the application.

    The first victim, a man in his 50s, was threatened in his own home in Irlam o’ th’ Height shortly before 7pm om Monday 25 March 2019 by a man with a knife who demanded that he hand over his car keys. The offender failed to start the car and fled the scene.

    An hour later in Prestwich, a man in his 40s had a knife held to his throat by an offender on Bury Old Road who demanded the victim’s car keys.

    The man received small cuts to his throat, back and forearm and was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains in a stable condition.

    The third man, aged in his 20s, was attacked at around 5.45pm on Tuesday 26 March 2019.

    He was threatened by a man who was a passenger in his car on Bolton Road, Pendlebury as they were parked on the roadside. He demanded he hand over his car keys before stabbing him several times.

    The attacker then fled the scene on foot in the direction of Birch Drive towards High Bank Road.

    The victim remains in hospital with serious injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

    Chief Inspector Amanda Delamore of GMP’s Salford Division said, “We believe that the same person is responsible for these premediated acts of violence.

    “The injuries inflicted upon these men became progressively more violent with each attack and it’s imperative that anyone with information on these crimes contact us immediately.

    “As well as appealing for witnesses, I’d like to appeal to anyone who uses Grindr and recognises the man in the image we’ve released to get in touch as a matter of urgency.

    “Like other forms of online communication; dating applications carry risks.

    “We’d urge people to be cautious when agreeing to meet strangers they have been speaking to online.

    “Always meet someone new in a public place first, let someone know where you’re going and never give out personal information to someone you’ve just met.”

    Fans of Adam, known as Glamberts, couldn’t wait to show their love for the new relationship with many of them showering the singer’s Insta with loving messages, although some couldn’t believe the news, with at least one fan asking the singer if he was making the relationship official, writing, “So @adamlambert you’re finally making it official? You’re with @javicostapolo as a couple?”

    The singer revealed that the couple had been an item “for months” and that Instagram wasn’t the gatekeeper of their relationship.

    The couple were seen together in February 2019, when Adam attended The Oscars with Javi, however, Adam remained tight-lipped about whether they were both in a relationship with each other.
